ZBRUSH 2024 FEATURES
Enhance your ZBrush experience with these additions:
Repeat to Similar Feature
Save time by making a change to one mesh, then automatically applying that change to all other meshes with similar topology! The following will be able to be applied across meshes:
Sculpting changes.
Ability to replace each mesh with a different mesh.
Masking.
PolyGroup changes.
Polypaint changes.
New Stroke Type: DragStamp
This new stroke option will allow you to adjust the intensity of the stroke in real-time by moving the cursor left/right and up/down.
More Noise!
Cinema 4D noises have been added to ZBrush Surface Noise. This includes 25 new noises for you to use when adding that extra touch of detail to a surface. Some of the noises include Sema, Electric, Zada, Luka, Dents, and Displacement.
Anchors Away!
The Anchor brush has been updated with a major quality of life change: You no longer need to mask the model in order to use the Anchor brush in posing or shaping your creations. Focal Shift slider will now control the direction the anchor points can affect the mesh.
Insert Mesh Brush Enhancement
The Insert Mesh brushes can now use any Stroke type: Dots, DragRect, ColorSpray, Spray and DragDot.
Slice it Up!
The Knife brush has been updated to allow a mesh to be split into pieces. This gives you the freedom to turn one mesh into a complex design.
Have a Ball with Masking
Masking has been given another set of options. Grow All and Shrink All masking have been added. These allow for parts with partial masking to either grow to a full mask on the mesh or shrink to no mask.
Creasing
Crease Unmasked and Uncrease Unmasked options make it easy to crease or uncrease surfaces simply based on the unmasked areas of the model.
Gizmo3D/Transpose Masking
This masking has been updated to allow for a smoother transition. It is now also possible to snap the Gizmo3D or Transpose line to the center of the mask.

You know what be cool, getting rid of the subscription model! And stop taking a piss out of the user base.
My 2022 version is pretty much a complete product. I am not sure what Maxon can do that hasn't already been thought of and done to make a subscription seductive. Beyond "nice to have," I can't see what they could add that would make it "must have," especially when using my 2022 ZBrush, with Blender and it's new tools constantly being developed, and Substance Painter (that I got full license for through Steam), I am a very happy camper!
@@stevenpike7857 they could make material database of brushes with albedo & displacement, they already have the tech for 2 map slots but could probably introduce screen space reflection & wetness. They are about to become irrelevant, they will loose their user base reporting errors and giving feedback. It will no longer become the artist's tool but rather "studios only". I know I will never subscribe. I stopped that with Adobe CS6 Suite. I was willing to pay big money but not for bugs, we should not have to be bug testers.

we want perpetual license.
@Charlei13 They no longer offer it 2024 and after. It's sub only.
So you don’t want software developers to get paid?
@@TheRabidRabbit1 Did he say that perpetual licence upgrades should be free?
@@TheRabidRabbit1 subscription is a cancer also, not sustainable in long term while perpetual licence has the advantage to be stable on a long run and doesn't require constant internet connection as well have the possibility to buy an upgrade after X years... while the subscription will force you to pay XX$ per month continually without the possibility to use the software offline and worst of all: when you stop paying the subscription, the use of software is automatically revoked. THAT is too many cons over the pros of constant updated version of the software. i want to support the software developers but i absolutely hate that subscription based system. there is already way too many things that require it now.
@@TT-rl4su not anymore as explained from my other reply to someone else with the link that explains it. also, i never mentioned the upgrades should be free, i REALLY don't mind to pay for an upgrade to the perpetual license but with how thing goes for zbrush, it's a really bad decision to remove this possibility.
This the end of the road for me and new versions of Zbrush.
I will NEVER Subscribe to use this software. And the fact that it's the only way to sample this is crazy.

i wish zbrush would have stayed pixologics property
I thought I would regret my decision to ditch ZBrush after Maxon took over. I loved Pixologic. Since 2014 for me. Looking at this new release for 2024, it makes me angry. Angry that a big corporate would literally buy an amazing piece of technology, developed by a hardcore crew and supported by a rabid fanbase... and literally throw it in the ditch. Maxon you should be ashamed. I will never use ZBrush again thanks to you. What a waste of money and so many years of time and learning. Blender is the future for me.
its now rental software in 2023
you can buy it one time still, but i don't see any point in upgrading. mind you its like 700+ or so. some people that want always updated can subscribe but I paid enough i will keep 2021 for now. until there is some large amounts of updates to buy all over again
@@aphixeIf you've a perpetual license you can upgrade to 2022 for free. And you should be able to upgrade to this one like you've been able to for over a decade but Maxon said "fuck you, pay me again."
what about layers? any updates?
there still the same 20 years old, super slow layer panel with bags?
++
agree!
Agreed
Forcing people to pay for a subscription when the software used to be a single purchase isn't about giving a good product, it's about money. Infinite money paid with no ownership is scummy.
I have ZBrush 2022. But, since the take over, and move to subscription only, I only focus on Blender now.
About the same with LightWave 3D. I have version 10. But, once Blender 2.8 came out, I had been looking at it more and more. By the time Blender 3.0 came out, I stopped using LightWave 3D, and never looked back.
Yes, when it comes to sculpting, ZBrush is still king.
Blender can do far more, and as for just sculpting in it, is not far from what ZBrush can do. And even though ZBrush has it beat with poly count, such a high poly count is rarely needed. Mostly if working on game models that have to move.
So long as I have to make a subscription payment to use ZBrush, beyond the 2022 version I have, it does not interest me anymore. And will not, until that changes. I don't mind paying for new updates when I can afford it, and updates are made affordable.
I use both. ZBrush 2022 is awesome! It's a complete package already. Nothing Maxon adds on is a "must have," especially when used with Blender.
I don't get your point? If you have Zbrush 2022 perpetual license where is the problem? I use it everyday with Blender and everything is fine
@@Aslan117 I am thinking of the day Maxon pulls an Adobe, and cans the ZBrush perpetual license created before their takeover, and sends a program request over the net to disable them all.
Remember, the perpetual license was made with Pixlogic, not Maxon.
In the past Adobe had no problem with trying to shut down and even try to sue everyone still trying to use their older software, from back before it all went subscription based.
And if you don't think such can happen, remember, the past owner of Oculus told everyone, when Zuck started funding them that nobody would have to use a Facebook account to use their gear. Zuck had said so to him.
But later, after Zuck acquired the rights to Oculus, Zuck made it mandatory.
Things change, and I am trying to prep, is all.
@@Aslan117the problem is zbrush is not backward compatible which means files created using zbrush 2023,2024 cannot be opened with zbrush 2022.
So if you are working in the industry, now it is mandatory to use subscription model since you have to work with different people. You see the problem now?
You know what would be a cool feature? Making the UI good.
Create your own custom ui, its not that difficult.
lmao what's next, build your own CPU?@@anab0lic
@@alexbit1389 Partially customize? What?you can customize the hell out of it. And blender is miles away from being anywhere near as good as Zbrush as a sculpting program. Also, it hasn't rendered software like max useless... I use max over it for modelling because its still vastly superior in numerous ways. If there is a competitor to Zbrush in the near future its 3D coat...
I would be fine with everything if multiple camera view would be coming ……
seems good to me, gitgud.
"25 new surface noises"
Seriously!? That counts as an innovation nowadays?
There are so many areas that need improvement and this is what they chose to do.
In other words, no new features.
Just a faster workflow.
Couldn't you have improved the dynamic system or the fibermesh?
Or adding a new method for generating hair all together?
What about UDIM workflow? Improving texturing, the layer system, and masking?
There is much to be desired...
They also got rid of perpetual, so it's actually sub only now with 2023 being the last of perpetual and will no longer be sold.
@@Floreumit is still there, scroll down a little, you will see the perpetual option. But they don't let you have features update after purchase. What you purchase is what you have.the upgrade fee is just too high.
Ok, i just read that the 2024 is not available as perpetual. Screw maxon...
They won't sold this to maxon if zbrush not already feature complete.
basically almost all of the pain point from the earlier version already been solved,
if you're the dev, you might be clueless too how to improve an already complete product
but, at least they didn't add unnecessary 16Gig bloat,
or suddenly require everyone to use less than 5 month hardware with only the strongest GPU to run
agree
yeah, rotating the textures on 180 degree every time in 2024 is futuristic :D
and the layer system is still terrible.
still doesn't seem like a good enough reason to pay for the upgrade.
The thing is you dont pay for the upgrade you rent the upgrade
Blender is such a bliss. And I say that after using Zbrush since 2004.
Blender is great but for me Zbrush is pretty much magic
I only see cartoony stuff made with Blender, while the stuff on ZB Central is out of this world, no comparison between the two, that much is clear to me!
Have you tried the latest version released after 2004?
.
.
It is a joke)) I absolutely agree with you!
Blender is YEARS behind zbrush on sculpting, i really hope they can catch zbrush some day, but today there is not competition
You compare 2 incomparable things...you can compare ZBrush and 3DCoat, you can compare Blender to modo or maya
I will keep using zBrush 2022 forever. Thanks Maxon for ruining the best modelling software. RIP zBrush.
In fact, everything that Zbrush can do for sculpture is more than enough in the 2022 version. For everything else, there is other software. Maxon ruined everything for money.

Hey since you disabled zbrush bridge for a lot of users with keyshot 9, and then forced zbrush into subscription model, how about ADDING the redshift renderer WITHOUT a SECOND subscription? Or are you unaware a large part of the userbase are indie users who don't have studio budgets?
Pixologic would come out each year with significantly more useful updates, and didn't bleed us dry doing it, so we know it can be done.
Zbrush is already a king, new updates doesn't impress me.😅
the slice to separate feature is just what I needed
totally!
I really hope it’s more stable than the knife tool!
how to do free hand slice?
Should have added Redshift GPU to the base sub. Such a bs Maxon move charging an extra sub.
Yea, the unabashed greed is off-putting.
On this day 2 years ago, they anounced the bad news. And the worst part everyone was worried about, came to render.
Well, nice features, BUT when is multiple camera view coming? This is so important for a good workflow to look at the mesh from more than one angle at once.
Besides these are very good feauteres I would say it‘s way to less compared to Blender progress. Especially ehen you compare pricing. I love Zbrush and C4D but you need to get to another level of features, stability and UI when you want to compete in the future.
Multiple viewport won't work as ZBrush is not a 3D application, but a 2.5D one. The programs Doc lists this unique core of Zbrush's code. There's practically only pixols on the screen while working, but a semi three dimensional object while moving the camera (or the object) as the "camera" shows a displaced tool in higher subdivision levels. I'm not a professional in the field of application coding, but several tutors for Zbrush pointed the difference of it compared to regular 3D software out, and it made much sense. A multi viewport needs to render a polygon model from different views at the same time, but Zbrush simply does not show a full 3D vertex object.
sure I am aware of this, but this should be the task of the programmers. it's really important - also for Zbrush itself to compete to other rising and free sculpting programs. @@Locustavideo
@@Locustavideo That doesn't make any sense. You would just have another viewport showing the pixols as if you had already turned the camera. The information is there. If I can turn my camera and have the pixols show a right side view, and then change my camera for a frontside view, it makes sense there could be another camera that uses the same pixol information to project the right side view, while another camera projects a frontside view.
Nonsense, dude, if the math for the model is loaded up tis loaded upk, if you can turn the model and view it a moment later from that view, theres no reason you cant expend extra processing power to create a second camera and do all the math twice. Perhaps you can't view ALL possible things zbrush can show in this multi-view, but if im working on 1 3d model, its possible. They probably dont wanna do it in a way that uses up a significant portion of processing power, and so they are waiting til they can come up with some magic trick so they don't look bad for becoming slower when everyone scrambles to use the extremely useful feature.@@Locustavideo
Ditching Maxon and moving in with Quixel and or Epic would be a fantastic move.
Pretty neat but none of this is enough to make me want to pay for the subscription model. Keep trying Maxon.

Most of these "new features" seem oddly familiar ngl. zbrush 2016-2021 gave juice every release, now it's just water.
Agree! We want perpetual license! Otherwise I am out. Good by maxon!
Subscription only software? and "new features" that don't innovate? No Thanks Maxon Goodbye Zbrush
These features are fairly nice... However I'd ask Maxon to focus on working on more "boring updates". Those that are not as flashy but fix a lot of production level problems. Scaling issue, Painting in layers, iron out sculpting glitches in layers, proper multi UDIM workflow to name a few
How about fixing what's already there. Program is becoming more unstable. surface noise maker tool thing has a bunch of parameters that have never worked (offset, tiling, etc.) Stop screwing pewrpetual license owners. When was your last update?
Thanks for pushing me to blender, lol.
Slice to separate and the two points for posing are badass

Oh wow, there is no new features again this year for ZBrush. And at this time C4D got Pyro system, new simulations and improved nodes.

@xanzula In 2021, Pablo Dobarro, the lead developer for everything sculpting in Blender, proposed a new set of tools for sculpting in Blender, hoping to solve the polygon count limitation of Blender, the Blender Institute refused, so Pablo went to greener pastures!
As for your personal attack, my actual job is in 3D, although I prefer 2D, and the fact remains, nothing but cartoony work done in Blender, even the big Blender sculpting names, like YanSculpts, Danny Mac 3D, FlyCat, and the likes, only do cartoony sculpts in Blender, while the art on ZB Central is on a completely other level with incredibly realistic pieces!
Seems a bit underwhelming tbh
Udims, improved uv system, better painting with layers and rgb blending options, improved cameras, ai integration, better hair plugins, cloth system, improved curves, better retopology tools? no? with blender growing like a freaking gremlin poured in to water before 12? no? for real? just a few new brushes..... amazing guys really amazing... looks like maxon wants zbrush to die otherwise i'm not getting what's happening here
Show me anything sculpted in Blender that is even close to some of the art on ZBrush Central!
dude I use blender but it can in no way compete with zbrush when it comes to sculpting. Blender struggles with anything over a few million polys, zbrush deals with 100M+ poly sculpts like its nothing
we dont want or need ai integration.
@@gcharb2dbro is a zbrush amnassador
@@TK-xi4vn And who said otherwise?, I use zbrush and i used it for more than 12 years, the thing is that if the only thing Zbrush brings to table is that allows to work with 100 millions polygons lots of us will be disappointed when hardware and software improves on blender break that barrier, and then what? zbrush NEED TO step up the game and maxon seems to be not aware of that

Subtool palette still can't be docked separately in the UI.
Still trash updates. Overhaul the UI if you want me to upgrade, Maxon.
Gatekeeping Zbrush at this exact point in time when Blender is gaining traction isn't a wise move. You should be opening the software up, not closing it down.
Release Zbrush for free and open your own proper in app purchase store for plugins brushes etc and take a cut. You'll make more money than you currently do and the core software stays relevant and no one ever has need to go in search of competition.

I wonder why people defend perpetual licenses ? I hate them, it's much easier to effort 150 or even more per month than collecting hundreds or even thousands for a software one time and then after 3 years again because missing out updates. I wish every software u can buy would offer a subscription as well
It’s not really a matter of suscribtion vs perpetual, but what’s included in your suscribtion plan. For more or less 300/years, that not worth it. Especially since you can do your every day job with on old version of zbrush without issue: every updates in the last 8 years are more nice to have features rather than necessity.
u just proved its a non issue in this case, why complain about upgrade prices when u dont need the update at all ? please explain@@migueleng7634
Idk.. ppl want to own things. Not rent forever. In the end u will be paying more for renting ur softwares. For someone that uses zbrush all the time. Its definitely a cost. For the most part you can do the same stuff in blender and have access to paint and render features with also rig and animation all in one. Idk but I dont like subscription model myself but maybe I'd be more comfortable with a 10 dollar price tag.... hmmm.
a 10 dollar price tag just doesnt work if u have millions to spend :D and thousands of people to pay as a software company, at best u also want to maximize your outcome. Maybe im just to young but i stick to it, if i need a software regulary but not always i prefere subscription as well as i do it for software i need daily. but i know us citizens get like 10x the amount of salary, so spending 1000 dollar on a software a single time is managabale, i would have to save a year or more, so i better just pay 150 a month, get my taxes back because its for work and let the customer pay the monthly rates for the softwares i need, unsubscribe and subscribe always when i need, except for c4d and redshift i use this daily @@solrax6026
