    🥁❤🥁❤🥁 Love your playing, love Zepperella and love so much that you are doing these wonderful instructional vids. If I had ever played anything, it would have been drums. I can't get enough of your Levee vid. It is one of my favorite music vids of all time (and I am 63 😉). Whole lotta love to you and the girls! ❤❤❤

    This is so helpful. I love how you described Bonham's playing (and how happy you look whilst doing it :D ). I didn't know about the hi-hat accents so have made a note of that. I also like your suggestion of dropping out the kick drum occasionally. I look forward to more of these.

    This is a great video and really helped me get this groove. Thank you. Don't know if it's my phone but the volume/sound seems to drop off after a drum demo section? I've been watching and listening to this demo on the headphones whilst sat at the kit.

    I noticed that in the 'Levee video' your mounted tom looks like it is at about a 45 degree angle. I don't know how you manage to hit it so clean and powerfully when it's positioned so acutely like that - but you do and it looks brilliant! :)

    • @Zepparella
      @Zepparella  6 років тому +2

      Thanks so much! That tom is strange, I've always had it that way. It's actually more level now than it's ever been, as I've moved it over to the side of the drum more so it can be lower. It's still tilted though!

    • @Iceni007
      @Iceni007 6 років тому +1

      Thanks for the reply! I've never seen any other drummer's tom tilted so extreme like that - it's amazing and unique. You should keep it like that! Great tutorial - to play the Levee like you do, is the hallmark of a great rock drummer. Sadly I fall well short of the benchmark but I'll always love just making a racket in my own way! @@Zepparella

    • @Zepparella
      @Zepparella  6 років тому +3

      I think I started doing that because 1. my bass drum is so big I couldn't reach the tom if it wasn't tilted, and 2. my hero drummer when I started playing, Dale Crover from the Melvins, had his tom set that way so I just thought that's how you did it. We all fall short in some way, but the joy of drumming rises above all that critical noise, right? Have a blast!

    • @Iceni007
      @Iceni007 6 років тому +2

      V. interesting - not heard of the Melvins but that's great. Yes, I also noticed that you have a mega super sized bass drum - just like Bonzo :)... Indeed - there is no joy like thrashing the life out of the skins... Bonzo has always been one of my faves - and he was unique really, but there are so many other rock drummers that I loved growing up - Neil Peart, Clive Burr (original Iron Maiden drummer - sadly died too young), Les Binks (Judas Priest), Brian Downey (Thin Lizzy) - I could go on all night - too many to mention! @@Zepparella

    I have watched the song video many times. I grew up with LZ being my favorite (Had all the albums) Enjoyed your video, only just after the drum display the audio was not legible.

  • @anthonyiacobello8969

    I disagree about the kick drum echo. The whole drum section was recorded at the top of the stairs in Jimmy's Mansion to give all of the drums an echo type sound. Are you saying they just applied an echo to that one kick? It's clearly a double hit with the second one a little stronger than a ghost note. If they had to engineer echo into the one kick, that would make John Bonham an ordinary drummer which we all know he was not. Why apply echo when you can just do it with your foot!? Were the triplets in Good Times Bad Times also done with Echo effects?

    • @Zepparella
      @Zepparella  2 роки тому +3

      Sorry Anthony, it was an Echoplex that added the second kick, along with the reverberation of the stairwell, you're correct. And in no way does that negate Bonham's magic! :)

    There's a really great explanation of how the drums were recorded on the original and also a debunking of the myth that the echo would be all from the spacious building they played in. It's by Rick Beato: ua-cam.com/video/XZYDDX1DHDU/v-deo.html
