Thanks for the video on shortening the cuff length.
You are so welcome Lucille😀
Thank you for including the mistakes, either real on purpose, because it’s a learning tool for us to be aware of easy mistakes anyone can make
Thanks Sandi. That was a genuine mistake. I even double checked before putting the cuff on so that wouldn't happen. I think I over thought it🤣
People who don't sew, have no idea how tricky a job like that is. At least when you do as professional a job as you have. Beautiful work, Christine!
You're right Jas. I laugh when they come in and tell me it's an easy fix..... Until I ask them why they're not doing it themselves🤣
Oh thank you Christine! I've sewn all my (long) life, but have shied away from shortening my sleeves. You've shown me that it's doable, especially not fussing with those plackets. And it looks great! You're the best!
You are so welcome, and had I not had a customer have faith in me, I probably wouldn't have done them either😁
What a great idea.....reverse sewing! Thanks for that! 😊
You are so welcome Diane😊
Thanks for all the helpful sewing advice 👍
You are so welcome!😀
Christine, thank you so much for this video! I am starting to do alterations for others. I would appreciate a video on all your alterations. I also enjoy all the other videos you have posted. Have a blessed day.
Thanks Jewel. I'll keep them coming as I get some more interesting ones in😀
I totally agree with you. I only do alterations for family. I hate them (alterations not the family). Even my husband knows that if anyone asks him do I do any alterations, he says NO...lol
I do the same sort of things with work shirt collars that are worn, there usually perfect on the other side. I just stitch up the buttonhole and sew a button on top and make button hole on the other side.. no one will notice its on the wrong side lol. Thanks Christine, your a treasure! 😊
haha, Chris and I had a good laugh that you needed to explain that you hated (alterations not the family). I had to reverse a couple of worn collars for a customer recently (her idea), I'd never considered that before. I thought it was brilliant!😊
I loved watching this, Christine! I hate trying to alter clothing. But your video and especially your tip of deconstructing and reconstructing a thrift store piece of clothing is such a practical, brilliant idea! Thank you for being so generous with your expertise.
You're very welcome Dotty. Thank you😀
That was interesting, thank you for sharing.
Thanks Eve😀
Boy, that takes me back. My first alteration job 40+ years ago was a woman who had 2 blouses to shorten the sleeves. I was scared out of my wits but did them for her, she liked them, and gave me 16 more (both hers and her husbands) to do. Got my feet wet really quickly. Worked for several men's wear stores after that, mmm. Also agree, alterations is the best teacher and take your time doing only one side at a time so you always have a reference. Another good, useful video Christine.😃
Thanks Judi. Even now, I'm always hesitant when I get these jobs, and as you saw, I still make sill mistakes. I find it the best way to learn though😀
Patience, it takes patience to do alterations! Great job and another video that explains things so well. I gave up doing alterations years ago when a customer actually wanted me to take in her side seams 1/4 of an inch after the bodice had been reattached and she liked the way it fit. Yep..that was it.
Funny you should say that Ali. I have absolutely no patience at all, except when I sew🤣
Thanks for this Christine. The tip of reverse sewing you gave helps me so much! Thank you 🥰
Thanks Sue. I really enjoy the reverse sewing and learning how things are constructed😀
I love making men's shirts. But it had never occurred to me to use tape on the collar and cuffs to make my life easier and avoid distortion. Love this style of videos so much! 😍
Your shirts are amzing Sue. I make Rock 'n' Roll shirts for Chris, but not to your standard. I have trouble with collars😊
Clever girl! I hate doing alterations. I’ll only do them for me these days. But I learnt a lot. Since losing so much weight about ten sizes it is easier to buy new clothes. I love the way you teach us how and why you do things. Please keep teaching us.😊
Thanks Debbie. I used to pay someone to do my alterations. Now I really enjoy it😊 (well mostly)
Thank you for another great tutorial. If you ever have to replace a zip in jeans, I'd love to learn how.
Take care,
Diane
Thank you Diane, I'll do that. That's another job I don't like to do, and am always pleased when customers change their mind🤣
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs Offer classes, then you can seriously reduce the number of customers! 😂
I used to teach classes for that reason Diane. Then my shop got too cluttered with junk. I'd like o get back into it some day😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs There's a school near you, don't they open rooms in the evenings for community events?
@frogandfudge there's one right across the road Diane, but they don't have outside activities. We do have a community centre where classes are held, but I haven't the time right now though.
Chris and I have talked about me running classes when I retire.
I'm getting close😀😀
This may be ‘too frugal’ for most of your viewers, but my English seamstress mother would turn the collar of my father’s shirts if the edge that rubbed against the back of his neck would get a little worse for wear. It’s very similar to when you put the cuff on backwards. A collar’s underside gets no wear at all so to have a ‘new’ collar, just unpick, turn it round, and reattach. It’ll last a good while longer and make your money stretch!
I think it's very sensible Pamela. I actually had to turn the collars for a customer some months back. Until she came in, I didn't even know it was a "thing"🙂
Great tips thank you
Thanks Faye😊
Hola! 🤩 Awesome tip! Thank you! 🤩

Thanks Li😀
Thank you
You're welcome Cynthia😀
I am shortening a flannel plaid shirt but I needed to cut off the rather short placket completely, and I thought - no problem, I don't need it. But when I tried putting the cuff back on, I was like - ut oh, how do I attach the ends? Do I cut the shirt up the sleeve or do I open up the cuff? So I came to your video, and I guess I will just cut a slit up the sleeve and fold it under a couple of times. I hope that works! Or I guess I could unpick the placket binding that I cut away if I feel like going through the trouble. Arggh! I feel like you do - the least work is the best!
If you could save some of the placket from being cut off and just leaving a small gap, then I'd just open the cuff and reattach. The next time I have to take more off, I'll do a video on how to reattach the placket😀
I bet you’re glad they were cotton blouses, I don’t like altering slippy material, I’d appreciate you showing me how. 😂
I sure was Christine. If I get something slippery, I'll do another video. In the mean time double sided tape will really help😀
Great tutorial! How about making a caftan tutorial?
Great idea. It's on the list! 😀
🤗🤗🤗
Thanks Mary😊
I would like to see removing or adding wearing ease.
Great topic. Thank you 😊
