@@ArtByOmarNYC Unfortunately that means the developer actually used some code to make those plugins, which means they can't be updated through Motion 😭 It's going to be up to the developer to get that fixed.
I’m so glad you made this video, neat video always breaks on me and have to restart. I’m not sure if it’s M1 growing pains or coding error with new updates because I don’t remember this happening as much on my old intel system.
I agree with that sentiment, I used to edit on an Air which was torture. But I feel more frustrated with this generation because apple is lacking that streamline software use.
I'm having the same problem with the Red Giant plug-ins in FCP on M1. They work for a bit then stop working, and you have to restart FCP. Then random ones don't work. Then sometimes they come back. Seems to be an M1 issue. I contacted Maxon support and they weren't very helpful. Basically said something, the gist of which was "our plug-ins are perfect - use be your problem" - suggested re-installing everything - which I did but to no avail. So I can only assume it's an M1 issue. But if anyone knows how to fix I'd love to know. Apple really needs to work on this though - using plug-ins shouldn't be this hard.

Now I know why you call yourself Final Cut Bro. Extreeemly useful info and plugins. Btw, do you know any plugin, besides from BorisFX, that can generate quality sparkles/glitter, that follow movements, or can be programmed to....???
Great video and thanks so much! I could not get the plugins to appear in Final Cut Pro for the life of me! What saved me was to check the extension type of each plugin to make sure it was placed in the right folder (.MOEF for Effects, .MOTN for Generators, .MOTI for Titles, and .MOTR for Transitions) and that did the trick!

I just tried opening FCPX with CMD-OPT... Eureka! It identified the errant plug-ins on start up, and didn't load THOSE, then asked if I wished to be reminded of these. It seems to be working fine. FCP 10.7.1, Mac OS: Sonoma 14.4.1
Since it's easy to do, I recommend applying First Aid to your hard drive as a first step. It might fix the problem, but it also might fix other problems you need to be aware of. What happens to me is this wonky hub I have plugged into my Macbook that, over time, developed a less-than-snug fit and occasionally drops external drives, which causes errors. The file permissions get screwed up; First Aid fixes that. Of course, I reboot after fixing it. I have a group of four plug-ins from one vendor that sits in the same titles folder. 3 of the 4 suddenly went missing, and the 4th still functions. For the life of me, I can't repair that one, so I'll try to remember where I got them and reinstall them.
I love your work so much mate, but the latest update of FCPx really has put a wrench in my work flow. I cant seam to relink a lot of good plug ins like Color Finale etc, and these I NEED.....
I have been having this happen a lot lately. FCPX 10.6.1, I do not want to update to 10.6.3 bc I do not want to install Apple Monterey. And Color finale's last plug in worked with 10.6.1 and the newer one only works for 10.6.3 and Monterey. I am happy with Big Sur. It is happening to most of my plumbing-ins, Usually have to just restart FCPX and they are back, but still a PIA. Never had this before.

I have a new Apple Studio Mac with a M1 chip in it and the only way I could get any of my many downloaded Pixel Film Studio plugins to work was to open FCPX is in Rosetta 2. Hey, I have a problem lately where I can be working in FCPX 10.6.3 with plugins like MVFX paid ones but most of my other plugins also will suddenly show the red error frame when trying to copy paste the effect or even when just having fcpx open and when I come back to use it, most of my plugins show the red frame when trying to apply them again on another clip, then I have to quit fcpx nd open it again and then they work again. this is happening on a daily and weekly uses...Any suggestions how to fix this? Thank you!!
I have had this problem the past, and been able to solve it some, by opening the plugin in Motion... Just opening it sometimes brings the plugin to an up to date function... I don't know why this happens, but it sometimes works... the more commercial the plugin the less this seems to work...
the weird thing is...all my purchased plugins were M1 FCP compatible but since 10.6.3 came out, all the plugins have became unstable. they work for a while and then turn red.....restarting fcp fixes the problem for a while....and then ZAP...they have all turned into the Red Plugin of Death ! arrrrrrrgh. its more annoying than broken.

Sadly, that's likely a problem with Pixel Film Studios 😭 They need to release an update, but they are not the best when it comes to updating their plugins.

I'm on Monterey, and have played with osml and display settings with the latest chart going up to Final Cut 10.6.5. But finding that screen that has the list including movies isn't so obvious on this Mac. I went to my finder and told it what I want to see in it, but still movies doesn't appear. In other words, your screen at 1:15 that has everything in orange on the left...starting with Desktop, then the finalcu, (that's cut off) then Macintosh, then Downloads, etc. well I can't seem to get to it.
Can we get a video on how to identify resolve missing fonts that are needed so we can use titles we installed without the required font? Much appreciated.
About three months ago I got a Mac Studio and transferred all my programs from my mid 2010 Mac Pro. Have about a dozen or so plugins, mainly titles, that now have the red background. Nothing seems to solve this. Some come up with a note that I need to go back to the supplier and ask for an update, but most of these supplier have automated web sites that are a huge pain. Bought one new package from this Pixel outfit and when I first installed it, the red thing came up, but after reading through there long list of suggestions, I demounted two external drives and reloaded the package I purchased and now it is working. They sent me a program which was suppose to fix the problem but this wouldn't even load. To me there should be some program provided by Apple to fix this mess. The people at the Apple Store call themselves genuses but they don't know anything.
It's not going to work for every plugin. It's very likely the creator of the plugin needs to update theirs. But all the steps from this video remain exactly the same as when I originally made this video! I would recommend reaching out to whoever made the plugin, and see if they have an update. Hi Dylan, got the dreaded missing effect in FCPX again. (Happens regularly). Worked my way all the way through your "fixit" list. Unfortunately to no effect (pun not intended). The effect that was "missing" was mTracker3d.moef. Long story short the only was I was able to resolve it was to repair the install via minstaller. While on the job I upgraded to v2 of the mtracker3d from Motionvfx. Not entirely sure why this seems to happen regularly. Perhaps upgrades and patches to the Mac OS? Anyway mate appreciate your enlightening videos. Thank you.
I have a standing problem with a few very useful Alex4d plugins, like “Bad TV” and “Grow/Shrink.” I work at my office, and because of ridiculous workload, I take my RAID home to work on my company files nights and every weekend. Despite the fact that everything is identical in both places, versions, OS etc, the plug-in I added at work shows up as offline at home ( and vice versa). I have to seek out every clip with a non-functioning plugin and replace it with the identical plugin on my home machine. It’s a pain. I end up keeping both plugins on these clips so all I need do is check one and uncheck the other. Still a pain, but less of one. I feel terrible reaching out to Alex since they were free, and I’m grateful I have them at all. Any idea what’s going on?
Caution: I tried all of this and made a big mess. Something (either the upgrade to 10.8 or the FCB installer) blew all the files that I added in the localizer part of FCPX and I had to replace them all. This video works best to find out where the video expects the files to be. There can also be a need to “reactivate” your plugin. Color Finale is notorious for this in my world. Make sure you keep your license info handy.

On launch, my FCPX app presents a list of plug-ins that need to be updated or removed, yet I cannot locate ANY of the plug-ins listed!

In regards to your FCP Hand Held effcts Step 3 worked for the "Custom" and "18mm" effects but not for the others. Any idea why that may be?
