This series has a much more solemn plots and dept in the story development than Yanxi Palace. Something I overlooked due to an opinionated review that I read a few years ago on the a few minor details on the a costume or two.
Maybe someone can help me understand something, A'Rou ended up confessing to everything and didn't expose the others involved because they were holding her brothers hostage and told her that they would kill them which would effectively end her clans bloodline, but when Ruyi reminded her that confessing to killing royal heirs would mean the extermination of 9 generations she still chose to confess. So would her brothers not be included in that 9 generations? I just can't figure that part out.

Since he also was turning a blind eye to the true conspirators aka the ones holding the brothers hostage they got to live. Not like their fate as prisoners to a much more powerful clan was any better anyway.
Because Arou believed more in Hui's threat of her father and brothers lives at stake under Hui's dad. She knew Hui has full details but Qianlong and Ruyi only has speculations and partial details. So even when Ruyi reminded about the 9 generations, it did not scare her as much as Hui's threats.
In the book, Qianlong knew everything. However, being young in his reign he needed support and chose to turn a blind eye to the true masterminds (who also had powerful families) to scapegoat someone from a lower noble family
This entire drama is about a sexually depraved Emperor who fills his harem with dozens of murderous women who have no qualms about killing children, let alone anyone else who's in their way.

Cannibalism, human sacrifices and consumption of different animals are replaced and swept under the image of cocktail drinks and mellow tunes of slacky slide guitar music. Everything is for the sake of maintaining face value and political correctness.
They are all the same. Nobody is good than Ruyi and Hailan. All are the same crooks , criminal and schemers including the ruthless, faithless Emperor who treated Ruyi poorly.
Concubine Gao stands up and tells A Rou she didn't even think about her own family , to keep her from exposing Gao , " A Arou was looking right at her , and about to expose her .' But A Arous brothers are being held hostage by Gaos father ....and she did not spill the truth ....Too bad just saying

On top of this, certain names seem to be used repeatedly for different women at different times. It's hard enough to keep in mind that Chinese custom has the family name put in front of the personal name; I've forgotten this a few times and got family and personal names muddled. Add in the fact that a woman may be granted a new name when she is promoted within the Harem... and it's a wonder I actually know who is whom!

I really think Emperor knows who was behind it since his mother went to the cold place because they trying to frame Ruyi even his mother knows to that Ruyi frame since that time. Jia plays very smart but she got out take by ling the empress good friend she over did all of them

Cinnabar is poisonous when ingested or mixed with water. It can kill someone and I dont think it was allowed in the palace, let alone the harem. So they were all shocked that she was given that, as it means the emperor was threatening her, they didnt know the significance of cinnabar being the thing that she used to fram Ruyi
Yes, she’s graceful and merciful, never once plot any schemes to hurt anybody. (It’s the ones around her keep hurting her). But this Empress here, she is insecure and hypocritical yet she got no balls because every single time she does something bad, she gets obnoxiously scared.
The subtitles can be a bit of compromise, but I dont think the english voice-over would have the same...effect. Its like watching an Anime being dubbed
Whats crazy is that Concubine Jia was the one who caused that whole scandal to happen in the first place, but she made Hui and A’ruo commit the acts. She influenced them so that Yongcheng or her first child could succeed.
Concubine Jia, in general, was a world-class, A++, manipulatrix. It wasn’t just Hui and A'Ruo she got all twisted up. She played e v e r y o n e, for a long time. I'm not sure even Ruyi fully grasped the sheer volume of things she did until one pivotal scene.

True but when she lost zhenshu that’s when she spiraled down into ling’s plays. She was the best written villain imo
