Hello Asia, so i like the vid, very informative. What is the molle brackets you have in the rear window? very clean install. Thanks for all the content. Alex
Great video as always. Problem is, if there is no signal, not even one bar, they will not work and there are vast areas where there are no towers, which render them useless. Inreach is the best way to go IMHO. If you need to stay connected way off grid, get a Starlink, which are excellent.
Starlink is awesome, but it also has a monthly subscription, so if you're not going off grid regularly it's orettye expensive. A satellite communicator like the inReach should always be carried when going off grid. The way I view it is the weBoost and a satellite communicator solve different problems and both should be carried.
Good to see that you even get signal improvement since both antennas are so close together. Was talking to a weBoost rep and they were telling me that my signal will more than likely be broken up if the internal antenna and external antenna are closer than eight feet apart. Thinking of using a Quick Fist Clamp to secure the antenna in the down position, I'm a little sceptical on how durable the antenna clamp will be long term. You might not always get enough cell signal to make a call but get enough signal for GPS to work. That being said I'm hoping that this cell booster will give me enough signal to make a call if need be out in the middle of nowhere.
I almost used a quick fist myself but so far the little clip it came with is holding well and I've gone through some areas where it was slapped by branches. As far as signal, I haven't had issues with them being close. But if I remember correctly, the instructions it came with said it shouldn't be MORE than 8 feet apart. You might wanna double check that.
i installed one last weekend...gosh that thing is expensive...i bought the rv style with the ''a/c wall charger'' and also ordered a second power cord with the 12v cigarette lighter style,so i can use it either in the truck when on the road and use the a/c wall charger in my jackery at camp spot.I use a velcro on the base on the antenna so i can move it.
Hey Asia, you know your the first UA-camr to review this version of weboost. I just ordered one on Amazon. Just didn't a chance to open it because I'm currently deployed overseas until April
I just got the one where you have to use the cradle since they are $152 at Walmart. I have no idea how it’s going to work out, but I wish you could unscrew the antenna when you don’t want to use it. I have it mounted on a hood lip mount that was left over from a ham antenna before I drilled my roof - and I don’t want to be driving around with it there on a daily basis. Because the feed line goes through the firewall, it’s just totally impractical to use. But we’ll see. I have a pickup, so I need to see how to mount it in back of the cab, I don’t have racks or anything it’s a 2WD work truck, but we do take it camping etc. in places with limited cell service.
I mean totally impractical to take on/off. I found a mount that will go in one of the stake holes in the bed rail, but then I lose a tie down point. Choices… haha
Great video, you answered every question I had, that's for sure. I'm a radio geek and when I saw it first was on lifestyle Overlands rig. My first thought was ok what the heck is that? So now that's on the list to get.
@@BaptismOverland well I'm a licensed Ham operator and had my GMRS too. I just need to renew it. I'll admit I'm more a GMRS person. However having a Ham set up and not needing it is ok too. WeBoost has worked well for me. It just makes whatever connection I have, better. That’s all I asked. Go from choppy audio to clean audio. Restricted to FaceTime Audio to good enough for FaceTime Video.
Nope! In fact anyone that's near the weboost interior antenna will get a boost in signal. There's no pairing or anything. All it's really doing is taking existing signal into its antenna and then amplifying it. Then when you look at your phone you'll see you just got more bars (btw if you don't, what you'll want to do is put your phone on airplane mode for about 15 seconds then when you go back on, it'll refresh your cell signal and you should see an increase at that point)
Nice comprehensive video! Yeah that plastic holder is a weird design. If you mount it on the same surface as the folding metal mount, the plastic holder will be too high. In addition, because of how tight it is to snap the antenna mast into, I had three antennas crack, so be careful. Anyway, weboost sent me an OTR external antenna instead.
@@BaptismOverland LOL in my case, this did snap. 4 times! I am calling weboost next week to figure out a solution. If you are interested, I posted a few vids documenting the breakage, so you can know what to watch out for. Well FWIW I installed the badlands on the runner not too long ago and it went smoothly! That was the main issue we had which caused us to keep putting it on and off. Good luck! If you have any questions just ask!

I know the higher you get it the better it is but, if you have this on in it's down position does it improve overall call quality better then not having a weboost? Keep up the awesome videos!
I haven't tried it! Most areas around town have strong signal. But I'll give it a go and let you know! That would be awesome to not have to raise the flag every time
The weboost 311248, 311229 & 311230 antennas only offer up to 4.3db gain. The 311115 is standard style steel antenna that offers up to 6.1db gain. The huge antenna is marketing hype to get peeps to spend money on an inferior product.
I do! I have both actually. The OME chair is awesome but bulky so I bring that for solo trips. The FR is smaller and super compact but doesn't have a table or really good cup holder but I bring that when it's my whole family.
