This was my mom's favorite PS1 game. I'm currently streaming it in her honor. This game was a huge part of my childhood, and I remember every time I wanted to play it when the PS1 was in the living room, my mom really wanted to play the game instead lol. It's heart-warming to see someone make a full documentary on the game. This is very appreciated as a huge fan of the game. So many neat things I never knew about the game! Every bit of exposure to this gem makes me happy :D
I loved Medievil back in the day. I still do (which is why I bought the Medievil Remastered). Even if it's not much a big franchise game, still I love Medievil. It's one of my favorite childhood games back in the glory days of the PS1.
only long years after playing the 1998 original did I realize that Dan's story is actually very sad as he was granted life only for a brief moment, only to return back to death once he restored mortals' world in which he could never continue to exist.
But that short period of time is where he redeems himself as a fallen soldier and earns his place in the hall of heroes, so even its sad its also more like a "second chance" story
@@Spark-pv9js he redeemed himself only in the eyes of the heroes from the hall of heroes as in the eyes of the people he had already been a hero thanks to the false legend.
@@egonjensen6506 Only the heroes and the king knew he was a fraud. In the wake of Dan’s death, King Peregrin made sure Dan would go down in history as the hero of Gallowmere for the dark century that followed. After being roused from the dead by Zarok, Daniel simply went on to actually live up to the legendary feats he was spuriously credited with when he was alive.
I'm 35 years old and I still love the hell out of this game. This was my all time favorite PlayStation game, with my second favorite being Wild 9. Obviously I loved the stylistic off-beat games. I'd love a doc like this for Wild 9 if there's anything out there to find about it. It's so damn weird, I'm sure there has to be a story there.
I've added Wild 9 to my list, though I have no idea when I'll get around to covering it as I've got a bunch of other documentaries I want to get done first. Perhaps I could do a mini documentary series for games like this that are more obscure/have little known about their development, or some kind of compilation of multiple obscure titles in one documentary. Either way, it's on my list so I'll figure something out when I get to it.
A documentary so well made that Andrew Barnabas himself left a link to it on an official interview's comments. I thought i knew a lot but still managed to learn new things from this
This was the first 3D game I owned. I got nauseous at first, and didn’t think I’d make it through. I eventually got used to it, and completed the game several times. Great memories!
i got this for christmas 1998, i was 13. it was one of the best games i ever played. 25 years later, i have long given up video games, but i'm still in love with medievil (and re2, jet moto).
This was a great in depth watch. Loved these games back in the day and it was very cool to learn so much about their development. I know a lot of work goes into these types of videos and i hope you get a lot of views someday.
Great work by putting together some rare photos and anegdotes. I consider myself a massive MediEvil fan and i've learned some new stuff! I very much enjoyed your video man, thank you.
Started playing the 2nd game and had a blast and wanted to know more about the series, I had no idea about the PSP game. This video was a perfect overview start to finish.
Amazing documentary about the story behind the MediEvil series. Love how smooth the editing is, well done. The game is a unique masterpiece featuring its own style and atmosphere with tons of creativity.
I played a lot of MediEvil 1 and 2 with my best friend back when we were 8 and 9 years old. We always took turns and we're scared of the games, but we loved them. We also teamed up on each of our PSP's at the end of MediEvil on it because we could not find the last item to finish the game. Love this franchise. If only Sony would give MediEvil a proper big budget third installment.
A true masterpiece they don’t make them like this anymore all the hardware limitations never stopped them - this game holds a special place in my heart forever and reminds me of a carefree childhood
Great content, keep up the good work! That was a great generation of games and fortunately I experienced it as a child. I think the modern video game industry has lost a lot of that magic. Even with today's advances in computer graphics, Medievil is still a masterpiece with an unparalleled storytellig and soundtrack. Nostalgia hits hard on this channel!
MediEvil is my favourite 3D platformer on the PS1, surpassing even Crash and Spyro, so this documentary was extremely insightful and informative, great work.
I dunno how much I like the original pitch of MediEvil 3, but the additions of middle eastern elements like the anubis stone and a djini would have made far more sense in that than having it in a remake of the first game. Also Dan having to fight for his own death happening sounds really fun. It's weird how there hasn't been done more with such a beloved franchise.
Sadly I did not grow up with this game since I was a ps2 kid. But I do know if I did, I would have loved it, the theme, design, characters, weapons and abilities, World building. It would have been right up my alley and I can imagine myself playing it for hours. Loved the documentary.
This doc makes me all the more thankful to have been on the receiving end of the original in the late 90s and makes me appreciate the remake that im still in the middle of. I have a family now so it takes me even longer to finish the game lol.🎉
Amazing video!!Medievil is my favourite ps1 video game and i hope to one day play the ps4 remake. It shows that you have certainly done a lot of research on the history of Medievil, as well as on all your other videos.
Just finished the game for the first time on PS4. Had it on PlayStation but just like Blasto, I was stumped by the puzzles as a kid. Great watch. I hope we see a remake of 2 or a new entry.
Oh my God this is a very well done video, good work dude! Just recently replayed the original game myself through an emulator, much love for this game and its creators
Awesome coverage of the series! The PS4 remake from a few years back was a great dose of nostalgia. I never got around to playing the PSP game and crossing that off my list yet...
This is incredible. I knew Medievil was always special, what a game! A true masterpiece for sure, today at 35 years old I still listen to the amazing soundtrack and play it on a emulator as well. Pure nostalgia. Hail Sir Dan!

Found your channel today through this video, just finished it and man, you did a brilliant job. I plan on watching the rest of your documentaries! I'm curious though, do you think you'll do a Jak & Daxter documentary? If you're into Jak, that is. I assume you're into Jak going by the documentaries you've done so far but my bad if I'm wrong. I would also love to see a Psychonauts documentary, if you're into Psychonauts. I look forward to seeing more from you!
If the levels of Medievil 2, are places of London, why developers doesn't use more places? For example, create levels in Trafalgar Square, Camden Town... I lived in London and that city have marvelous places. Medievil 2 is too short in my opinion.
That’s true. Actually there was a removed level called The Parliament which was the actual parliament in London and also the final boss had initially planned to be a gigantic zombie version of Queen Elizabeth
The little Imp's still creep me out. I really loved this game. Don't know why I bought it as I had only just bought a PS1 and this was the only game I ever bought for it. So I had Medieval & Crash Bandicoot. I was 16 and was too distracted by girls to waste my time on video games. I had things to do with my fingers other than pushing controller buttons lol
Oh man, I hated that story pitch for Medievil 3. The genie was annoying enough in the PSP remake and it's a real shame that he came from the M3 pitch. I can honestly say that I'm very glad that never became the third entry. Regrettably it _did_ become a digital comic bonus with the PS4 version. The PSP remake I wasn't a huge fan of but while the puerile new direction was very disappointing the fully orchestrated OST was absolutely gorgeous. The PS4 remake was very high quality with a few misses here and there but *so* much better than the PSP version overall and the one feature that _every_ remake of a much older game should have (but no others that I'm aware of actually do) - it included the original game as a bonus that you could play and compare.

I would have love to see a knock off of Danerys Targaryen, Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister, Arya Stark, Cersei Lannister, Theon Greyjoy, Sansa Stark, the Clegaine Brothers, Jamie Lannister, Khal Drogo, Ned Stark, Rob Stark, the Baratheon Brothers, Oberyon Martell, the Tyrells and so much more.
It's a huge shame that MediEvil 3 never happened. It sounds like an absolutely amazing game. I still hope that it will be created someday, but unfortunately it won't be in PS1 style graphics.
Well you can't use the guide because the mechanic of attacking while blocking has been removed, and enemies have become much faster and will always land a blow before your strike. I can make a flawless run through the ant caves in the original. In the new one, I'd be surprised if I don't die in the first chamber. Precisely because I can't block and swing...
I personally think, that after an era of remastering literally every old game (which is fine to some degree) now developers should focus on "undigging" old unfinished ideas of games, scratch books, scripts which had never seen the daylight, due to some theirs original-company's complications or lack of money, cause those abonded games are literally gold mines of fantastic ideas to make a new masterpieces, like, otherwise it's such a waste for a game industry
Just another game in the long line of titles that were needlessly changed and tinkered with, with the behest of the original creators that truly understand why the Games are so beloved in the first place. What a joke. This is why I support indie devs whenever I can! In the end tho I am happy that the OG crew was brought back in when sony finally came to their wits (which doesn't happen often at all LMAO) so that is nice to see. I hope we get a 3rd game sometime soon.
If only they made a third game instead of a whole reboot ( being resurrection just not to be confused ) allow me to tell how it should’ve gone: the game starts telling the story of the second game and how the past altered Daniel fought and defeated the Palethorn beast cutting the stomach to release Kia and she noticed a light it was the Anubis stone she then pulled a strange looking amulet she put the Anubis stone in it and she went to the Time Machine and vanished after that Lupo was first seen playing with Daniel’s head and as soon as that happens Kia or Kiot appeared this time younger and not as a mummy and along with her was Zarok young as the girl and they took quick work of Daniel and the dog sending them into the era of dinosaurs then Al Zalam telling the two of the bad news of how Zarok and Kiot ruled all of time thanks to the god stone ( I decided to make it the god stone to give it more power to rule time and space a little twist that I like ) after that Daniel sighed with Lupo looking confused then Daniel pulled out his head and threw it so Lupo would catch it after a few raptors, triceratops, pterodactyls Kiot’s soldiers looking for Zalam because he stole something of Kiot like breaking the god stone into four pieces scattered in time they met the first boss of the game Zarok taming a mess of a dinosaur ( reference to the tyrannosaurus wrecks which this one is from the past ) after the trio defeat it drowning him in tar they go on an adventure in time with one gargoyle head, the professor, Winston and the heroes from the hall of heroes all band up together and fight the couple of evil. 😮💨that was a lot
