We like to say that Glow Grid is Dance Dance Revolution meets Whack-a-Mole. For those unfamiliar with these childhood games, they are arcade games that test your ability to dance on light up tiles and your reaction time to hitting a target respectively. We built home-made dance tiles using pressure sensors that connect to LEDs each with a different color. Each player is tasked with stepping on the lit tiles as quickly as possible, and scoring the quickest reaction time! Our game sets up a random sequence of a set amount of tiles and calculates the reaction time between each step, eventually averaging them together and outputting the results to our players. By essentially using an Arduino, eight pressure sensors, and eight LED strips, we’re able to bring this arcade game to any player with materials as simple as foam, aluminum foil, wires, wood, and cardboard! All of us are dancers (Jen and Hannah are in AADT and Dhriti is in Ghungroo), so we chose to do light-up dance tiles because we wanted to share our love for movement with everyone!
