The only thing I can’t play with this controller (SN30 pro) is links awakening, it keeps shutting off on the title screen, having the lite and joycon drift making it impossible to play anything I was excited to use this controller, it works just fine with animal crossing so idk why it shuts off when I try to play Zelda

@@SassyCheeseCake I know this comment is old but maybe someone will see it. Yes, it works on iOS but you have to use the accessibility feature to connect it (as a switch for disabled people) after that it works flawlessly, even better that on Apple TV (on appleTV you can just connect it as a regular BT controller)

These diagonals are mis-inputs as I clearly wasn't pressing on the button in order to get a diagonal. For me, the Nintendo controller just feels right and exactly as a SNES pad is. 8bitdo SN30 is close, very close. But their buttons arent convex enough and are far too clicky which SNES buttons never ever were. In addition, both Dpads feel a little tight due to them being brand spankers but the Dpad plastic on the 8bitdo felt slightly too hard to me.

Couldn't agree more. With the 8bitdo controller you get a home button, screenshot button, a functional zl&zr, along with dual analog sticks that still feel good when you're playing games outside of 2D/retro style games, and the D-Pad seems to be superb on mine (doesn't favor diagonal inputs). My one and only personal gripe is the position of the analog sticks, and that's simply because I have larger hands/fingers. Playing super metroid, the left analog stick sometimes gets in the way when going for the select button to switch to missiles/super missiles/etc. As far as pairing issues are concerned...read the instructions that come with the controller and don't be dumb 😂👍

Lack of Home button is annoying but just keep your Pro Controller near you (if you have one, which is highly recommended) and that's not really a problem anymore. You just need it to play games which require analog sticks like Smash anyway, it's not like the SNES controller works as a complete replacement, just a more optimal and comfortable option for specific 2D, platformers and fighting games for instance.

I definitely have had an issue with the d-pad on 8bitdo controllers, but my understanding is that it's been fixed. It's not something you'll notice on a lot of games but if you play any Mario games and find yourself unable to crouch slide, then you'll see the problem. I did the ring fix and added a couple small layers in the center underneath the pivot ball and it works perfectly now and feels excellent. FWIW my controllers are the ones analogue sold with the SuperNT, which was before 8bitdo allegedly fixed their d pads. Definitely well worth the money though, even if I had to tinker to get it perfect.

Thrown shade aside about missing the Home Button feature in the SNES app, you're 100% right about the controller primarily being a collector's item, especially in comparison to the SN30 Pro, which I've already bought thanks to one of your earlier videos. 😉

Bought an 8bitdo SN30 Pro, and have to say that I'm really not a fan. The d-pad does have constant false registration problems when performing extreme platforming or other precision inputs, and the face buttons are drastically over-stiff and 'stick' instead of actuating smoothly and cleanly. They also have a noticeably longer throw and sit taller than a first-party controller. Makes it feel like a cheap knockoff, while the price tag definitely doesn't reflect that.

To me it's pretty simple, this is the best controller to play SNES games. It's the best way to play these games the way they were intended to be played.
The 8bitdo options have thumbsticks and triggers which allow it to work with modern games, but hinder its primary function which is for SNES games. It's an awkward middle ground. For modern games, get a modern controller, for SNES games, get a SNES controller. Stop messing around in the middle.
