“The song was son long because it went on a whole journey and went through different scales, and took that main riff everywhere it could go” - or something like that Vin finally understands the meaning of prog. Getting outside the convention of verse/chorus/bridge song writing and thinking more compositionally and asking where else can this riff or motiff take me, and then just explore whatever concepts spring forth. Now, can this be excessive? Can this sometimes lead places that aren’t even really the same song anymore, yes on both counts. But at its base the idea is to explore the music for all you can
Actually one of my fav DT songs, especially that harmonized riff right before the guitar solo. Definitely my favorite DT song since A Change of Seasons, which was many many years ago. I knew Vin would love this cause he loves prog.
Lots of great guys out there... But I have to agree. Different sound, tone, feel. He is the greatest in my opinion. There's faster, maybe even more willing to go outside the box. But, in his box, he's the best. No question
You finally got the Dream Theater key. I was just like you , It took me some times to really appreciate them. And since then they are my favorite group ever
Vin always likes to emphasize that he doesn't like Dream Theater, however, I recommend that subscribers watch all of his reactions to Dream Theater. There isn't a single song that he hasn't, through his reactions, liked what he heard. Vin's comments about the band are contradictory to his own reactions. I've been subscribed to this channel for years. I've watched all of the couple's reactions to Dream Theater, so I know what I'm talking about. Unlike Sori, who clearly likes the band a lot. I don't know where Vin's difficulty in admitting that he likes listening to Dream Theater comes from in 99.9% of his reactions. C’mon buddy. DT is absolutely EXTRAORDINARY and I know YOU know that. God bless you guys! Greetings from Brazil! 🇧🇷🤘
Glad I wasn't the only one going WTH when he said he doesn't usually like DT. As far as I can remember the only song of theirs he's hated is Wither, but I haven't actually seen their reaction to that one (I don't think it's on YT) so who knows if he really did hate that one too... lol
Vacant and Stream of Consciousness is like one work in two parts. Of course, the second part is the main dish, but the first part should not be ignored either.
The stream of consciousness flows with the stream of unconsciousness. Clever. Silent like flowing in a stream of consciousness yet loud in soul and peaceful realization. One of my favorite transcending songs and of dream theater. Nice dark dream wolf vamptress rose jade lady. Keep it up.
"I ususally don't like this band"... you have liked literally 99% of all their songs, Vin LOVES prog, he thinks he doesn't like prog because he doesn't actually understand what prog is.
If you want insane instrumental prog, check out Dream Theater's side project called Liquid Tension Experiment. Songs to check out: Hypersonic, Rhapsody In Blue, Beating The Odds, and Acid Rain live in LA.
You should really try to find live versions of Dream Theater because watching them play is much more impressive than simply listening. Most of their songs have a live version on YT. The thing to realize about Dream Theater is they are all highly educated musicians, so when you say there was a piece of music that could be trimmed, it's actually there for a theoretical musical reason. Much in the same way tattoos have certain rules, like the way a face should be on a forearm, there is a reason for it even when the person wearing it or the person listening to the music feels it could be different, they are following a traditional rule set or in this case a compositional practice that for trained/educated musicians, there is a reason it's in there.
There are Levels and types of Progressive music. As far as Current Progressive hard rock. Dream Theater and Tool are best there are.........And Someone Request anything off Dream Theater Systematic Chaos. Guarantee Vin questions his views on Dream Theater.
If I remember correctly I don’t think it was Opeth that made you hate prog. It was In the Name of God which bothered you and your values which you reminded the viewers of. Ironically it’s the last song on this record. Dream Theater is not pretentious. They are high IQ music with movements like a Mozart masterpiece. Baby baby fire desire does not stimulate musical virtuosity. There is a scene in Amadeus where he is being criticized for “too many notes” 😂 your critique immediately reminded me of that scene. I watch some of the reaction videos and some are visually bothered by topics that make them uncomfortable. I’ve always questioned what we were taught and music has always been a historical vessel where authority is questioned as it should be. I don’t care for the moral compasses on this channel, but at the end of the day you seem to recognize musical genius when you hear it. Peace!
The live version shows the amazing skill of Petrucci.

If he listens to enough prog he will stop being an unbelieving heathen and love teh prog.
This album was written to appeal to more mainstream metal fans. It blows my mind how quickly they wrote it and how great it is.
One of my favorite Dream Theater songs and one of my all time instrumentals. Gets better the more you listen to it also which is great.

This one's beautiful, thank you.
John Petrucci…the best metal/prog metal guitarist… musically proficient!
Hes probably the best living guitarist.
@@KilroyKilroy-t6eI agree with this statement.

I dont know... Maybe but too much amazing guitar players, Tosin Abasi is also a guitar GOD!

With the blue glow, Sori looks like she has been taking the spice.

Came here to write this exact comment. I've seen many of the DT reactions and he was stinkfacing all over the place.

Favorite dream theater song! Thanks for reacting to it
Vacant and Stream of Consciousness is like one work in two parts. Of course, the second part is the main dish, but the first part should not be ignored either.
Vacant is more fructuous for me in terms of giving me ideas. The dark, the feeling of loss, the longing. I associate it with Twin Peaks.
The stream of consciousness flows with the stream of unconsciousness. Clever. Silent like flowing in a stream of consciousness yet loud in soul and peaceful realization. One of my favorite transcending songs and of dream theater. Nice dark dream wolf vamptress rose jade lady. Keep it up.
Too bad you didn't include the soft prelude with vocals called Vacant. It carries the same riff but with a soft piano and cello.
Not sure why you dont watch them live. Watchin J.P solo in this song is hilarious. His hand literally teleports
Only Dream Theater song I really like tbh. Awesome to see it reacted to!
Masters!!!!🤟🏻
"I ususally don't like this band"... you have liked literally 99% of all their songs, Vin LOVES prog, he thinks he doesn't like prog because he doesn't actually understand what prog is.
I've played the bass track on Rocksmith 2014, may not of got 100% but still fucking epic.

I realized i never listened to this song, it's great.
Harlequin Forest is a brilliant piece of music by one of the greatest bands of all time, but whatev. Haha
If Vin listens to enough prog he will stop being an unbelieving heathen and love teh prog.
I don’t think he’ll ever appreciate it. It’s just too much for him
Please the live version
Please try The ministry of lost souls
Illumination Theory from DT
John petrucci.. what else to say.
Opeths new music is fuckin ridiculous
Deliverance by Opeth is an absolute crushing epic.

Do Killing in the name of God by dream theater. Long but amazing and not over convoluted. Not an instrumental though
I thought they did that before
@@lancekidwell5729 Guess I didn't see it. I'll look it up
Watch them live
If there would be just one complaint it would be that there's too much synth
REPEAT!!!

Ok vin but you are not sori get it ??? Sorry 🤣 lol
Good song. Serious, serious skill. A bit lack of goosebumps as always with DT, and I have no explanation for it.
😂😂😂😂
That sentence makes no sense
Dude looks gaye, meaning dude bears resemblance to Marvin Gaye.
