Winter is not considered an optimal time for growing, however this is not true for all plants. Some plants like the cold and are frost hardy. In this video, I am covering 10 frost resistant vegetables you can grow in winter. These vegetables tolerate light frost and some also tolerate light snow as well!

I forgot to add the hardiness temp for Peas which is 28F and Garlic which is 10F. Also, some subscribers pointed out that Brussel Sprouts and Bok Choy is also frost hardy, so the list has grown to 12! Enjoy!
Thanks Jag. I enjoy your videos.

Wait, the boyfriend has a hamster? 😂😂😂😂😂
We had planted Radishes here in Texas. When the frost came, we were sad that the plants died. However after the snow and ice thawed out and we dug them out and the Radishes were completely edible. Super happy about it.
Try dykon radish,it's underground! Easy cover with newspaper, hay, etc. Cleans liver, best winter detox!
That sounds like an achievement to me,
Garden on,
God bless.
They were waiting for spring! :) Cheers.
@@jsmythib Great all worked out.
I love how you also explain which plants are harder and which ones are easier to grow. Great info for people who are barely getting interested in gardening, but are scared 😬
Rosemary Herbs grows all year round. I have a Rosemary plant that I've been growing for years. Thanks for this great info. I will definitely add this to my list
This depends on how cold it gets. Go too far north and Rosemary is an annual, unfortunately.
@@mandyjedi And how well you mulch with airy mulch. Mulch reasonably and you can keep many crops going strong through light or harder frosts.
Over a hundred types of rosemary plant! Look them up. Some hardy, some not.
Jag you show how much you love veggie gardening. I get excited just watching you
I had red russian kale and mustard greens all winter long last year. If it was going to get very cold I just covered it with a bin or a tarp overnight for insulation and took it off midday. I loved the fresh greens every day.
Using all your ideas to start a winter garden... something I've never done
+ Parsley (survives any frost, leaves grow even under light snow), Horseradish (roots survive any frost), Onions (some varieties tolerate down to -15C, but won't actually grow below freezing), Wild garlic (bulb survives any frost, leaves grow from -5C)
Yum yum and yum. The underrated ones. Horseradish along with other goodies, are really great to make fire cider vinegar from homemade apple cider vinegar. Brilliant immune boost. P.s. a good idea to grow the horseradish in a pot, so it doesn't take over the whole veggie patch
Hi Vlad.,
May i ask for your opinion?
... Just got home after many months absence. Is it possible to still plant domestic garlic?
It's 18.12.'22. Temperture, the coming days should be 5-12°C during the day and - 1 till 5°C during the night. The ground, dirt is wett. Can they be planted outside or In a glass house?
Thanx In advance
Ive had so much fun using my God given garden veggies to create wonderful healthy soups!
Wow I didn’t know carrots leaves are edible! Thank you
Also Brussel Sprouts 🙂 I am still having some in the garden along with kale 😋
Great video 👍🍀
I once had some brussels sprouts that didn't appear ready when the snow came. I forgot about them and in spring when the snow was melting I discovered it all finished and ready to harvest as if it had been in the freezer, only fresher.
@@amywalker7515 amazing plants. One of my favorite vegetables 😋
The handsome gardener with so many useful tips.
Thank you so much jag!!! This is exactly what I needed. Wish me luck.

Thank you for always sharing very informative content I have lots of vegetables to in my garden
FYI we are in the north east and plant garlic in the fall and harvest the following year. Before we wised up we planted it in the spring assuming we should 🤔 well we were wrong, lesson learned. Last year we planted in mid October and had a beautiful harvest in August. 💝
Winter veg enjoyment! Thank you!
Good video. Wonderful and precise information. Thank you.
This is a big help. Glad I found you!
What a great video. Thank you for such detailed information.
The one issue I've had with overwintering carrots is they can get woody. A local nursery owner told me which variety to plant to avoid this, but I didn't write it down, so now I can't remember. 😣I would guess the shorter and fatter ones like Danvers Half Long? I know for sure rainbow carrots are NOT good for overwintering unless you like gnawing on sticks.
Perfect and clear video as always
I live in the Pacific Northwest. Our winters are usually mild. I had lettuce growing in November, all winter! Because I grow in containers on my balcony, I don't have a pest problem. Gonna try most of these.😏
I live here too. Is there any other people making gardening videos for our climate?
Thank you for this information 🙏
Cheers for the video, came to Western Victoria from Darwin so i wasn't sure what i could get away with growing down here. We got big frost and light snow as late as September last year. I put corn, potatoes, carrots and onion in a newly established garden back in October and had some good success
I love your videos! Thank you! Lexi
I truly enjoyed your sharing knowledge about growing vegetables during winter🤷♂️

Thank you for watching :)
Thank you!! I grow a lot of microgreens . I have a large container garden outside including raised beds and grobuckets. I look forward to more Garlic, radish carrot and broccoli !🥕, 🧄, 🥦 ❤️ !
Sugar snap peas are delicious and can eat the pod and all. We grow ours up an old piece of Rio that I lent up against the fence. I used some part dried gum branches to weave in and out on the edges. Topped it off nicely
Thank you, this info is fantastic.
My kale and carrots have survived 0 degrees Fahrenheit.
Not frost or light snow but heavy snow and way below freezing in Colorado, still nothing happened to them.
Love a winter garden
Hi Jack keep making good videos.
I just had 4" of snow on my kale, it has thawed out now, and it looks great. Probably half an inch of ice every morning for a week? Also.
Diatamatouse earth used with a puffer, is fantastic, and the soil loves it. It will stay on the plant for a few days too.
love the list!
Great advice thanks!
Thank you, informative and straightforward. New subscriber.
Thanks for subscribing :)
Thanks I was just think about this!
Nice video man. Thanks
I’m in southwest Ohio (zone 5) and currently growing kale, Swiss chard, Brussels sprouts and Bok Choy right now. We’ve had two frosts with temps down to 26F with no problem. Bok Choy is a great “cut and come again” veg!
Where did you get your seeds.
Hello Joan I am planning to grow bok Choy and cabbage next winter , I live in Minnesota, can I ask you when do you start planting the vegetables?thanks
@@ClaraTunwin I’m in Zone 5, and I planted Bok Choy from seed in mid-September. Hope this helps.
@@JoanOH did you grow the seeds and transplant them? Or do you sow the seeds directly in the ground?
@@ClaraTunwin I just checked my garden journal. I started the seeds in mid-August under grow lights, moved the seedlings to a shady spot on my deck the 3rd week of September, then transplanted those to my garden the 4th week.
Thank you!
Great share! I would like to reference this video in an article I'm editing about growing a garden in the winter season. Very informative and clear. I'm taking notes! ✍
Thank you so much
Great video!
love this video
Thanks, man!!
Great explanation
Wow thank you so much! I knew about a lot of them but not cauliflower! I live in a very cold part of Canada so the coldest they can handle the longest I can feed myself haha
Great video! I am a new subscriber, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your content.
Thanks for subbing :)
Thank you 💗
Such a good video! ❤ from WA state
Thank you for sharing this information. After summer, I was wondering what to grow in winter season, and your video provided a lot of choices.
It is very valuable source for a hobbyist.

Hi Jag, I enjoy watching your videos. If I missed planting in fall, can I start now i am in PA
Terrific!
TY!
Great video
awesome!
Thanks for the video. Can all these vegetables be grown in shade too?
Please use Celcius scale as well
Thanks
I like your videos very much. Get to the point and focus on the main topics thank you.
Nice here, we have reasoning and dry season....
You're a smart guy
Hi Jag, I enjoy your videos. Do we have to sow carrots only in fall or if we can sow i doors and put it out in zone 6b in March it will produce fruits?
=} Very Amazing And Awesome Video.....!!!!!!!!🥰
Awesome
Garlic, kale, collards and carrots are pretty hard to mess up. My favorite thing to grow right now is garlic because it is so easy. Just plant them in early fall in rich soil, mulch with straw and don't do another thing other than water until about mid summer when they are ready to be harvested. Nothing like fresh garlic. I now grow enough to give away, dry some and make garlic powder with too.
1 million followers yet ….. ?!?!
Come on Jag Singh
Great video but you didn't mention if shee if these can be direct sown in those temps or if they'd need to be transplanted after starting inside
Good video
Hi Jags, I am in the NY, Long Islands, and new to Gardening. Growing vegetables had been on my wish list for a long time, but was nervous getting started until I came across to your videos. Have subscribed to your videos as well. Planning to build a small greenhouse and get in to venturing together with nature. Gardening seems simple and interesting but challenging as well. All the information and the tips you share are pretty simple to follow and I am sure will help me better the art of gardening and understand the botany of growing vegetables. Thank you so much.
Question: Can I grow Curry leaves plant in NY weather?
