I have a 17 silver Thruxton with the fairing. it's my garage Queen and incredibly gorgeous runs as well as it looks! Just purchased a 19 tiger 800 xrt which in its own way is just as fantastic just not as aesthetic. Triumph is doing a great job just don't screw up the quality.
It doesn't make sense to me for Triumph to introduce a third Thruxton model to the range when dealers already struggle to sell the Thruxton models they already have in stock !
@@paulharrison8155 I'm not looking at buying one now as I'm looking at bikes other than Triumph. As I say if the first gen Thruxton R had had a decent amount of power around the 120-130bhp mark I would have bought one. I don't like the looks of this new version. It's bland. The looks of the first gen Thruxton R were literally love at first sight for me. Such a shame Triumph have ditched them.
It's a real shame that Guzzi isn't doing something like this themselves. The V7 is getting dated and the V9's are both sooooo boring. The V85TT has promise but MG desperately needs additional models.
Like the extra few HP but as a Thruxton R who’s modded his bike with black Öhlins shocks, K&N filter pod upgrade, snorkel removal and booster plug along with shorty cone engineering exhaust amongst many other cosmetic upgrades, this is not enough to get me to sell my bike for the RS. I think way more could’ve been done by triumph. But if I wasn’t a thruxton owner, I think the extra $1k+ in MSRP is worth jumping on the RS over the R
I own a '16 Thruxton R (w/ fairing), while the engine internal upgrades appear to address my biggest complains about the bike, I don't think I'll look to upgrade. I am looking to shed those heavy as hell wheels and do quite a few things to my Vivian, there just isn't enough of a difference to merit even a drive to the dealership to check out the new RS Thruxton.

Hi moto bob Having just bought a new Thruxton 1200 recently it was interesting to see what triumph decided to Do to upgrade this bike I have no problems with steadier look and improved brakes but will Continue to enjoy my new bike for now Informative vids as ever and well presented
I liked your review, was hoping for a 5 gallon gas tank, Im thinking about buying a Triumph but the gas volume capacity is important out west where I live for long rides. I will be looking at the specs on 2020s!
I prefer the all black instead of the storm gray. Thruxton models are a little small for my taste. I'm not a huge fellow, but I'm not small either. I like bigger bikes.
Thanks for the comprehensive report. No doubt about the significant improvements under the skin, weight reduction and improved power but to be honest I'm a bit underwhelmed. I'm not in the market for a Thruxton as too expensive and powerful for me, but I love the modern classics. I bought one of the last (discounted) Street Cups (black/ ice) and made a few aesthetic changes that now make it look 'a bit' like the new RS! I may be delusional but I'm happy with my current ride.
It's not delusional to be happy with your current ride. I think as Alanis Morissette warbled, If it makes you happy it can't be that bad :) (it's also a lot cheaper sticking with your current ride)
Looks like a sensible but minor upgrade to the thruxton R, and nothing that tempts to upgrade (as a few standard mods move the R into RS territory and better). Would have been great to see classic color options as the new paint job loses the wow factor in the previous range.
Looks lovely. If I had the money and space I would buy one. Otherwise difficult for me to justify since I don't think I am good enough to appreciate the difference over my Speed Twin. I would like a nice all metallic red paint scheme.
The first gen Thruxton R was such a pretty bike. I nearly bought one but didn't because it wasnt quick enough. This 2nd gen might be quicker and a tad lighter but is the increase from 96 to 103bhp enough? Maybe not. It should have had a greater increase to about 120bhp. The suspension and brakes could easily handle this increase. I don't like the colour scheme either. Looks indistinguishable from other bikes such as the Speed Twin. Can't understand why Triumph havent thrown the top spec at it like lighter wheels and chassis as it is a physically smaller bike than the Speed Twin. I just wish they had kept the appearance of the first gen and just increased power and torque and tried to shave off as much weight as possible as they have done with the Speed Twin. Losing the yellow rear shocks is a mistake. It's definitely going to be slower now! Triumph make some bizarre decisions.
Great looking bike, especially in the black finish. The only downside for me are those gold front forks, ok it's personal taste, but think they look somewhat garish on a classic style bike. Think it will be out of my price range though, guess I'll stick with my RE Interceptor.
Looks cool but I would love more hp on a 1200cc engine, plus full Ohlins setup for that price. Also some more color options, a red? And ditch those ugly turning lights for soke Rizoma Led. should I replace my good ol thruxton 900 with ohlins setup?
I want one with arrow exhaust and most of the accessories but keep it single seated. I would like some options such as quick shifter up and down since it's an expensive bike, also a cruise control. Why the springs are black, if they want another color, how about red! Anyways, did they announce the launch date?
Hi Motobo Love the new Thruxton this moves the game I own a standard 1200 and love the bike but not ready to change just Keep the vids coming great content

That new colour scheme has done the same as the one on the speed rs, totally cheapened the look of the bike! I much prefer the ice silver of the thruxton r. The black version does look ok though imo.
I wouldn't trade in my original Thruxton R for this, its not really appealing enough. its more of a facelift than a higher spec model and all the things you'd need are aftermarket still. current model brakes are amazing, the power can be equally improved by just changing the exhaust/xpipe. also why have they not re-designed that god awful tail section in some way shape or form, mine came off day 1 lol? seems like a marketing exercise to me. too soon for them to release a speed twin R though it would upset people who rushed to buy 1, but its coming the spy pics are online.
