- I was so keen to add a contact wheel to my 2 x 72 bench grinder but was worried about the cost. Well, I managed to do this for comparatively little and I hope this will inspire others to do the same.
Special thanks to Dimitris Polychronis @JimmysCanal for his advice and to Dan Comeau @d.comeaucustomknives2677 for his inspiration and original design for my belt grinder.
Here is the link to the grinder and his amazing site : dcknives.blogspot.com/p/2-x-7...
Here is a link to the contact wheel I bought: www.aliexpress.com/item/16854...

Hello Nick,
Nicely done... also a big CONGRATULATIONS on passing the 1,000 subscriber milestone... See you on the next one.
Take care.
Paul,,
Hi Paul, thank on both counts. Much appreciated.
Nice work, it will be very versatile whatever you want to shape with the grinder , well done. Cheers!
Nice they are very handy to have in the garage,
Just built a big knife grinder unfortunately I have no clue on putting in a speed control to my motor, so I will be adding v step down pulleys just so I could ease the speed a little if need be, always nervous when switching mine on as it kicks in like yours,
I little tip when placing a bearing in if you have no press,
Bag it then place in freezer for 20 so hours, it will shrink a little then use a socket that fits the outer ring on the bearing, and tap it in straight, never let any thing hit the centre of bearing,
Thanks for this tip. Actually my next upgrade will be to replace the motor with a 3 phase one with a VFD so I can vary the speed. I am really missing the speed control.
@@Ukenick Hmmm yes they say use the three phase to do this not going to be cheap,
are you qualified to do the electrics your self or would you need to get in some one
A nice and affordable upgrade for your belt grinder; Well done my friend! Excellent video as always! Looking forward to see the new tool rest and all the other upgrades you planning for this grinder.
Take good care
Jimmy
Thanks for all your help Dimitris.
@@Ukenick Was my pleasure!
you could have just used a bolt some washers and a nylock nut thats what i did with mine
Why not put it in the tubing weld it than do all the drilling?
