Actually, Lilith came from Jewish mythology, not Gnosticism.
The mythology originated in the Babylonian captivity.

There is another story that Lilith was the first woman is the book of Enoch to have children with the demons out of Hell. According to this story she was a desendant of cain.

Once again, I find it rather hilarious that when Hercules or God of War tackles Greek Mythology... it's just kind of accepted as a fun take using the religion as influence and the same thing with Marvel Comics and God of War when it comes to Norse mythology...but if someone DARES to build a comedy series off the back of Christian mythology then you have to question the whole morality of everyone involved in the show.

1.Satan being portrayed as a good guy, he's a separate entity from Lucifer and runs the Wrath Ring and will more or less be expanded upon in Helluva Boss where chances might be he's a villain.
2.God is evil, they aren't...we don't actually know God's deal in this universe but he isn't evil because Adam was the one going through with the exterminations.

I understand your position, I was there too, believing that Christians are crazy fanatics borderline stupid that can’t talk about anything else but how Jesus has died for my sins. Getting flared up by anything and people of extremes.

I was the darn fool… I looked around me, why is Christianity openly mocked. Try to do this cartoon about Mohammed! Nobody will do it. The bible said “search and you shall find” of course that had no meaning to me as I am sure it has none to you. Slowly, questions about the existence of God, of how God an almighty God allow evil in this world and many others got answered. Now I can say that I do not just believe in God. I am convinced of his existence. Looking back I know I was unhappy, unsatisfied by anything, looking for sex, appreciation from people around me, getting a dopamine hit when I was arguing with people and showing them that I was the smartest one on the room. The reality was that even then, I was still empty, eating for days to pass by and from time to time setting up new goals in career, life etc. still in a effort to stop feeling empty and aimless. The “friends” that I had were there until the first moment when it became “inconvenient” for them to do so. All good while I was out spending money with them, going out and agreeing with at least 90% of what they were saying. Whatever moments of happiness I had were short lived. Again getting depressed and struggling to rinse and repeat. But same method will always lead to the same results.
I am writing this to you with nothing but love in my heart. Search for God, search for the truth and you will see, how this world hates Jesus, mock him. The one who dies on the cross for me and you… and is for a reason… the bible said this world belongs to the devil, his only purpose is to separate you from God, trough music, sin, distraction, distraction and again distraction. Hitler is a historical figure that is proven to actually exist for one, there is no physical evidence your God exists it's a belief, Hitler was not a belief. Plus God is never once mentioned or alluded to in this series so therefore it's a bit of a stretch to say he is painted out as a 'sadistic villian'

So why is it an issue for them to warn people about the implications of a show like this? That is what true love looks like. I fear that the issue is not so much that people don't get that the story doesn't follow the Bible; I fear that people don't care. Many people, even within the church, have rejected the Bible and the Bible only, and have opened the door to strange interpretations such as this story. Jesus needs faithful soldiers to witness to the world what biblical Christianity looks like in real life. This is what shed the Light so rapidly in apostolic times and it is what is needed now. Lord help us.

Even if this show Is not a biblically accurate, its still has a Biblical and Religious references and ideas.
1) In fact, the whole plot of the extermination is very similar to the plot of the Book of Exodus, where Pharaoh ordered the slaughter of the children of the Hebrews in order to reduce their number and avoid rebellion. A similar story is present in the New Testament with King Herod, who ordered the capture of little boys in order to find the King of Kings among them in order to get rid of him and preserve his power and throne. Sera essentially resembles Herod and Pharaoh of the Exodus, then Paradise can be considered as Egypt and Judea. And Sinners as Jews, abandoned by God for 400 years of oppression under the rule of a foreign country. Funnily enough, but in the song Hell is forever, Adam drops the phrase "An eye for an eye", which is just present in the Book of Exodus. It says, "If a man hits his male or FEMALE slave in the eye, and the eye is blinded, he must let the slave go to compensate for the eye" as Adam and Lute did to Vaggie, cut out her wings, her EYE and threw her away, releasing her from service. Just as Sir Pentious enters Heaven and becomes an Angel Cobra, when he renounced his sins and redeemed, this can be seen as a reference to how the serpent created by God devoured the serpents created by the Egyptian priests. And this is added by the theory that God himself carried Pentius directly to Heaven and near Sera and Emily.
2) If we assume that Jesus existed in this universe, this can be understood by St. Peter, one of his Apostles and disciples, then Charlie continues his work, so to speak, but if Jesus worked exclusively with living people, then Charlie is trying to atone and make the Sinners in Hell believe. And in fact, she also has apostles, Vaggie herself, AngelDust, Alastor, Husk, Sir Pentious, Niffty and Cherry Bomb. Lucifer then can be considered as a Joseph and Lilith as a Virgin Mary, because I love to theorize that she after eating a fruit from the Tree of Knowledge become the bearer of the true pure power of good, which was partially passed on to her daughter. And if we take into account the fact that she is formally the granddaughter of God, if one still exists in the universe of this series, then he would not only be glad that such a glimpse appeared in Hell, but it is also possible that he himself contributed to her being born and helped the souls of the dead to be cleansed of sins. And just like Jesus in his ideas, Charlie also has enemies and opponents, Adam and the Exterminators themselves can be seen as Pharisees, who are kind of priests and servants of the Lord, but who are not clean, corrupt and who wanted to kill the righteous man, Jesus himself, seeing in him a threat to their power and influence. Sera can then be seen as Pontius Pilate, who conducts a trial and pronounces a sentence on the further fate of the righteous man. Emily can be considered as Mary Magdalene. And Heaven can be interpreted as the Roman Empire. And if we talk about who will become the new Judas Iscariot, then it will definitely be Alastor, who will betray Charlie and her ideas, but then, perhaps, either sacrifice himself or destroy himself, just as Judas himself, realizing what he did and that he was guilty, committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree. Even the way the Angels, and in particular the Lute, condemn Sinners and at the same time not noticing their own vices or thinking they are right, this is a living illustration of the wisdom of Jesus: "Judge not, lest you be judged."
3) Also, the plot and characters is relatively similar to the Book of Esther, with the plot of how a female ruler from the people who are under the rule of a powerful kingdom, saves her people from destruction and extermination. Charlie and Emily herself - Queen Esther. Sinners - Jews. Angels - Persians. Sera and Lucifer - King Ahasuerus. Lilith - Queen Vashti. Adam - Haman the Agagite. Lucifer and Vaggie - Mordecai. And just as Ahasuerus is unable to revoke the order to exterminate the Jews, so he issues a new order that the latter may be resisted, and this entails battles and celebrations. The same is true in the season finale. Sinners and Cannibals, along with Charlie, Vaggie and Lucifer, give battle to the Exorcists and win not without losses, and then celebrate.
4) And finally, the very way Charlie tries to guide Sinners to the true and righteous path, this is what many famous prophets of God did, in fact, Moses, Jonah and Elijah. And yes, Heaven can be considered as a monotheistic state, and Hell and demons as a pagan idolatrous people. As the Europeans, English, or Spaniards actually treated the native population of America, hating them largely simply for their different faith and for the color of their skin.

I'm a Christian, and I actually like the show. I don't think that the show is meant to be a show teaching theology, it's fictional and I acknowledge that. The creators of the show use the ideas of Heaven and Hell to teach something significantly more important than what's right and wrong in theology. The show is intended to teach messages of redemption, acceptance, open-mindness. A very big message I see in the show is how people who consider themselves to be righteous sometimes degrade and "demonize" people who have made mistakes, and how that's wrong. I think the show is very well needed at this time of division among us, ESPECIALLY Christians who put themselves above non-believers.
Don't worry, I still believe God to be all good and Satan to be evil haha.

It's all about redemption, and it's pure fiction... I really don't see why christians are so angry about a redemption story. Deep down you guys probably just don't want to admit that that's how some of Christians act - smug, superficial, act like they're better than everyone else (like Adam and the exorcist angels in Hazbin Hotel), and thinking that everything that's not "Christian" in their eyes must be pure evil w/o question.

Bad reaction. It’s called storytelling. Viv took characters, put a twist on it, and made it into an enjoyable show that I’ve watched, and enjoyed every episode so far. You push your beliefs of the Bible on every little detail you don’t think is perfect to your biblical fantasy. It’s not real. It’s animation. My opinions don’t matter but neither do yours. They said that Lucifer was a somewhat good character and you go absolutely insane and talk about how it’s narcissistic. Get mature, there are gods in other shows that aren’t biblically accurate, that must mean it’s hell spawn and a terrible influence on people. Just because something doesn’t happen the way you want it to doesn’t mean it’s bad. You act like 5 year olds behind screens. Because you cry when you don’t get your way. IT IS A MUSICAL. You don’t enjoy anything because you are blinded by the Bible and can’t understand anything that doesn’t have the Bible in it. I am so sorry if this is the kind of opinion you've come to from watching other Christians hate on the show and people who watch it, and I think you're quite right when you said that some are obsessed with the Bible, imploring that they often forget the purpose of the Bible; is to help them lead a virtuous life where they can learn to put on the armor of God to fight against worldly masters so they can be closer to God-but because some often forget this, they tend to obsess over righteousness instead of bringing the sick to the light. God's purpose for the believers is that they should be the salt of the Earth, which gives flavor, meaning instead of lashing out on people who make mistakes, they should help them get back on the right track. Because whatever dark is manifested in the light, it will become light.
While I do fully acknowledge it's a work of fiction, I do have my doubts of the show's portrayal in biblical terms, but I mean no hate here, I hope you understand.
But I hope you also understand, there are other Christians who truly wish to bring people closer to God by helping them through enlightenment. While I also do make mistakes sometimes, I learn from them through the word of God which gives me a clear judgement which is right in the eyes of God.
Please do remember, that God does not help us get back on our feet to just walk away but also to help other get back up on their on feet again.

Its fine if Christians do not enjoy the show and believe its a false take on biblical story (which it is) and its something they dont agree on
Its also fine for non Christians (and perhaps some Christians) to enjoy the show without taking it seriously and sees it as a fictional piece of media
Everyone has a point of view and belief. Not liking the show doesnt makes you like the Winners/Angels in the show and liking the show doesnt makes you like the Sinners/Demons in the show.
Even if this show Is not a biblically accurate, its still has a Biblical and Religious references and ideas.
1) In fact, the whole plot of the extermination is very similar to the plot of the Book of Exodus, where Pharaoh ordered the slaughter of the children of the Hebrews in order to reduce their number and avoid rebellion. A similar story is present in the New Testament with King Herod, who ordered the capture of little boys in order to find the King of Kings among them in order to get rid of him and preserve his power and throne. Sera essentially resembles Herod and Pharaoh of the Exodus, then Paradise can be considered as Egypt and Judea. And Sinners as Jews, abandoned by God for 400 years of oppression under the rule of a foreign country. Funnily enough, but in the song Hell is forever, Adam drops the phrase "An eye for an eye", which is just present in the Book of Exodus. It says, "If a man hits his male or FEMALE slave in the eye, and the eye is blinded, he must let the slave go to compensate for the eye" as Adam and Lute did to Vaggie, cut out her wings, her EYE and threw her away, releasing her from service. Just as Sir Pentious enters Heaven and becomes an Angel Cobra, when he renounced his sins and redeemed, this can be seen as a reference to how the serpent created by God devoured the serpents created by the Egyptian priests. And this is added by the theory that God himself carried Pentius directly to Heaven and near Sera and Emily.
2) If we assume that Jesus existed in this universe, this can be understood by St. Peter, one of his Apostles and disciples, then Charlie continues his work, so to speak, but if Jesus worked exclusively with living people, then Charlie is trying to atone and make the Sinners in Hell believe. And in fact, she also has apostles, Vaggie herself, AngelDust, Alastor, Husk, Sir Pentious, Niffty and Cherry Bomb. Lucifer then can be considered as a Joseph and Lilith as a Virgin Mary, because I love to theorize that she after eating a fruit from the Tree of Knowledge become the bearer of the true pure power of good, which was partially passed on to her daughter. And if we take into account the fact that she is formally the granddaughter of God, if one still exists in the universe of this series, then he would not only be glad that such a glimpse appeared in Hell, but it is also possible that he himself contributed to her being born and helped the souls of the dead to be cleansed of sins. And just like Jesus in his ideas, Charlie also has enemies and opponents, Adam and the Exterminators themselves can be seen as Pharisees, who are kind of priests and servants of the Lord, but who are not clean, corrupt and who wanted to kill the righteous man, Jesus himself, seeing in him a threat to their power and influence. Sera can then be seen as Pontius Pilate, who conducts a trial and pronounces a sentence on the further fate of the righteous man. Emily can be considered as Mary Magdalene. And Heaven can be interpreted as the Roman Empire. And if we talk about who will become the new Judas Iscariot, then it will definitely be Alastor, who will betray Charlie and her ideas, but then, perhaps, either sacrifice himself or destroy himself, just as Judas himself, realizing what he did and that he was guilty, committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree. Even the way the Angels, and in particular the Lute, condemn Sinners and at the same time not noticing their own vices or thinking they are right, this is a living illustration of the wisdom of Jesus: "Judge not, lest you be judged."
3) Also, the plot and characters is relatively similar to the Book of Esther, with the plot of how a female ruler from the people who are under the rule of a powerful kingdom, saves her people from destruction and extermination. Charlie and Emily herself - Queen Esther. Sinners - Jews. Angels - Persians. Sera and Lucifer - King Ahasuerus. Lilith - Queen Vashti. Adam - Haman the Agagite. Lucifer and Vaggie - Mordecai. And just as Ahasuerus is unable to revoke the order to exterminate the Jews, so he issues a new order that the latter may be resisted, and this entails battles and celebrations. The same is true in the season finale. Sinners and Cannibals, along with Charlie, Vaggie and Lucifer, give battle to the Exorcists and win not without losses, and then celebrate.
4) And finally, the very way Charlie tries to guide Sinners to the true and righteous path, this is what many famous prophets of God did, in fact, Moses, Jonah and Elijah. And yes, Heaven can be considered as a monotheistic state, and Hell and demons as a pagan idolatrous people. As the Europeans, English, or Spaniards actually treated the native population of America, hating them largely simply for their different faith and for the color of their skin.

(Gay Christian here) Omg and Christian’s say my people are sensitive. First off it’s a show it’s not a nonfiction. Saying Lilith is an add in is dumb, she is part of Jewish mythology. Lucifer was a prideful demon and now these guys are taking pride in saying they know better and they know mythology of Lucifer and heaven better. I get such a headache from these types of people that hear anything about Lucifer or satan and think it’s an evil show or another, not taking the time to look into the other stories that are Bible or Christian centric information about Lucifer. Also watching a show that has demons or devils doesn’t make you evil, it’s determined by your actions and kindness. Hazbin Hotel was never meant to be a biblically accurate representation of Hell and Heaven or anything really. And no one ever said it was. It's actually a pretty good cartoon/musical style story meant for adults, with very well fleshed out characters, (in my opinion) really funny humor, some really really good songs (e.g. More Than Anything) and it becomes really emotional at times what made me cry several times. It's not about religion at all, it's more about the dreams and suffering of normal people and how they cope with it and how friends, emotional honesty, and genuine connection with other people can help you and make things better. The setting (in this case Hell/Heaven) is nothing more than that really. A setting for a good story.
Why do they use reference to Bible themes?
They could tell a wonderful story without mocking an entire religion.
They do this to mock Christianity and portray it under a false light to lead people away from Christ.
This is done a means of propaganda against the bible because it in no way promotes or pretrays it accurately. It is stifling and trivial to take a religion with rich history and beautiful allegories to use it as a mask for an adult cartoon.
If it's not about religion at all then why is it Bible coded. That doesn't make sense. If it wasn't about religion at all then there would be no heaven/hell or angels as these are religious themes.... like Bible is not an aesthetic... its a holy book.

As a Christian, I gave this show a shot and I don't think it's horrible. I know it's obviously not faithful to the bible which it drew inspiration from, but for me, this also challenges some beliefs about the Christian faith. For one thing, I started to question what Heaven is supposed to be like, I mean if everything was perfect, how would that look like? It almost sounds boring if hell and heaven are truly for eternity. And I also started questioning hell a bit more, since if it was truly everlasting torment, I wonder whether that makes God truly loving and just. You know, I think most Christians really avoid the topic of hell since it's really uncomfortable to believe that everybody who isn't a "believer" in Christ is just damned to go to hell forever. It creates some sort of superiority complex a lot of Christians have and it bothers me that Christians are simply fine accepting that countless people allegedly burn in hell forever. Why does everybody accept this and not dare to talk about it? There is just a lot of fear involved, that's for sure.
Firstly as a Christian you should probably see from the beginning that the fact that it twists the original true creation story its a major red flag. And about the Hell thing you mentioned, thats why we have missionaries, to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ so that people don't end up in Hell. We share the Word and if we as Christians dont share, that's on us, but if we do and unbelievers don't accept Jesus then their damnation is on them. Ezekiel 3:18-19

Actually, read multiple versions. Via the bible, how many people has Lucifer killed compared to God? Didn't God create everything? Lucifer rebelled in heaven, that was supposed to be perfect, correct? The angels didn't have free will. So, either your God created Lucifer knowing ALL OF THIS would happen and allowed it to (and is still allowing it to) for nothing but entertainment OR your God DOESN'T KNOW everything, thus making it imperfect.
Why do you Christians act so shocked about "heaven made a truly heartless decision"? How many times has your God ordered women and children be slain in its name if they didn't do a thing? How many times has it commanded parents end their own children's lives? It flooded the earth once because "oopsie. the first round of incest wasn't good enough. Do it again". 1.Hitler was a real person who did horrible HORRIBLE things. The characters from Christian mythology are just that....mythological characters, so that's immediately a big difference. Not even mentioning most of the characters are original and those who do share names are at most, loosely inspired by said mythological character.
2.God is not evil within this universe, at least, not that we know of. The series makes it clear that the angelic exterminations are being done by a small group led by Adam, the first man who is an incredibly selfish and horrible person who is the embodiment of all of man's evil. His entire reasoning for doing this is because he feels betrayed by both Lilith, his first wife, and Lucifer who he feels stole everything from him...on top of just being a sociopath who actively just partakes in debauchery.
3.The series makes it clear that heaven is not bad, that Christians are not bad, that good IS good but the series is about redemption and change. It's about what humanity CAN be despite the main characters being demons in most cases.
So most of your arguments are moot on that front.

There are several religions that do not tolerate anything that they consider to be mockery of their prophets, deities, etc. because what they hold dear is considered sacred. And you can find that anywhere around the world, not just in religion but in life in general. As for the rest of what you said, freedom of expression is freedom for everyone. So it goes both ways. Guys it is just a show 😅 This cartoon doesn't want to attack Christianity and your faith at all. I agree with the fact that it isn't for children because of the language and the real-life struggles both psychologically and physically the characters are representing for example victims of abuse, toxic codependency, and the dangers of social media. With respect, I think you should watch at least one whole episode before you judge but that is what I do not know if you did.

It's a fictional story set in an alternate universe. I don't need to elaborate further, the show never makes you want to believe this was the actual story (which should be obvious to even atheists like myself). Also, how interesting you're only reviewing the intro but not the rest of the show, and convieniently warp it to fit your narrative.

You know much of the Lucifer story comes from romantic literature, correct? A lot of what’s portrayed isn’t in the biblical cannon as currently understood. It’s all mythology from different sources.

What I have noticed about this and nearly every other opinionated Christian review is that y’all watch the intro and the jump straight to broad judgements about the intention of the entire show. Yes that’s the consequence of an introduction and first impression, but the extrapolation is a bit much

Unfortunately, the producers of this series satirized several biblical events. It should not be surprising to Viv that there is blowback from many in the Christian community. Although partial in this clip, the series depiction loosely reminds astute Christians of the revelation in the Sacred Text. At the same time, the innocent is "bamboozled" out of correct knowledge about God and a meaningful relationship.
In my humble opinion (IMHOP), the series is a "passive-aggressive" work against Christianity in general and the Bible in particular. I admit one has the freedom to express artistically but would do so without misleading the unchurched, a child, an adult, or the surface readers of the Bible. What is entertainment to one could be confusing and destructive to another. Everything designed for fun and amusement is NOT always safe. Subtlety is the womb that gives birth to deception and destruction.
A supposedly muted reference to biblical events stands out like a sore thumb for the mature or growing Christian. They would shun it and encourage others to do likewise. Regardless of the creator's intentions for this series, the potential influence of this entertainment is more far-reaching than a "light moment."
"Hazbin Hotel" (IMHOP) is an unscholarly way of rewriting a biblical account without acknowledging or announcing its objective. "One doesn't have to eat a whole cow to know he has eaten beef."

thanks for making this video. Some of us don't know until its too late the younger generation of this time will grow up distancing themselves from people that believes in the bible. Y’all are equating them, but actually if you look at medieval sources, Satan and Lucifer are separate things. Also: most of our ideas of Lucifer come from the epic Paradise Lost. Hazbin Hotel is actually kind of faithful to that. If they’re thinking “oh but why would we accept an epic as a source of theology”: it seems like y’all already have accepted some non blibical sources

Dante, like Hazbin hotel and Paradise Lost after it, are using hell as an allegory for modern day events. Dante literally out popes he didn’t like in hell and has several characters do fourth wall breaks to complain about current clergy. Hazbin hotel is not any more anti-Christian than the Divine Comedy or Paradise Lost.
I hope they actually get to watch the whole show, so it can demonstrate their own prejudice. But that’s probably a little nieve.

Or noting that there does not appear to be a god (or jesus) in the world created by this show. This show has a heaven with angels who worship good and try to act on that. They are not beings *of* good, nor do they seem to worship any specific entity as is found in Christina mythology. It really is not hard to frame this show as actually a very Christian take, if one chose to, yet most of y'all instead choose to frame it as... I dunno... heresy? Such a silly and unproductive approach to faith.

1-Heaven is not evil, the show never made Heaven evil.
2-The character that take the position of villain is Adam, is mentioned that Adam dont represent Heaven, 999,9% heavn has no knowledge of Adam acations.
3-Lucifer is not exacly good, the story changes the angle of Lucifer actions, Lucifer is not innocent, but he is portrayed more like someone who made a mistake while trying to do a good thing, but that mistake has huge negative side effects, so him "corrupting" humanity is more foolishness than malevolent.
4-Hell is also not a good place, everyone in hell is bad and is in hell because of the bad things they have done in life, but the idea of the show, the idea of the hotel, is that you can recycle souls, is like " why only take redemptions in consideration during life time?" "what happen if you take a sinner soul and teach it to be good?" "Is redemption possible even inside hell?"
5-Lilith character is still a big "?" but is hinted that maybe she is not good
