    Table is a game changer! Didn't even realize what we were missing till we added one. Been thinking about one of those bow saws...

      You are absolutely right on the tables!! Yes, a saw of some type is so handy. I've never had a "real" pull rope for my boats; just sometimes used paracord. That's my next add (especially for my canoe)!

    Great video! I’ve done plenty backpacking but gearing up for my first canoe camping trip. Your video was one of the more helpful I’ve found. Thanks!

    Another great vid Dan !
    A saw is something i havent carried. But your comment about clearing lumbs or trees that are blocking the creek is a perfect example of where a saw would be very useful. It’s always good to have a “piece of mind” 🤓. One thing i’m looking into is building a power station for my cpap. I can go without it but i’ve been told i can give norfolk southern a run for their money. i like the detail you use to explain your items. Anyone can say “i bring my gear in a bag”, where you go into detail to help others understand the reason you carry this equipment.

      Thank you very much, Brian! And thanks again for the reminder on the wipes!! I have a cpap, but haven't used it in a while. I've been known to "rattle a few limbs" at night...lol! It may be why I didn't hear any wildlife at night on this trip- ha, ha!!!

    Seeing this video reminded me that I actually let my Agawa Canyon saw at Sapahaw Campground when we were there in October. Hopefully the man can still ship it to me. SMH
    The leather gloves are nice, but I have had to step it up a notch...Shan bought me a set of cooking gloves from Lodge Cast Iron's Factory Outlet and I LOVED those things! Unfortunately I think that a dog drug one of them off...BUT I did figure out that they are just those really thick and long-armed welding gloves that you can pick up at Rural King, or Tractor Supply. The Lodge brand is just dyed green to look different, I guess. But I bought two pair of those; one for our wood stove in the house and one that I keep in the teardrop camper. You can literally pick up a handful of coals with those things. I reach right into the fire and grab burning logs to rearrange them, wearing those gloves. These with my wood stove are going on 3 years old an are used nearly daily through the winter months.
    Remind me to tell you about my new "pickleball racket" that I picked up for the Canada trip. ;-)

      Oh snap- sorry to hear about the saw. You know, I actually looked at some welding gloves online thinking they might work or even be better than leather work gloves. But they do tend to work better as a pair...lol!! I'm guessing the racket was for the mosqitoes??? :-D

      Thanks so much, Mark! The two I have are Gonex brand dry duffel bags I purchased off of Amazon. They're about $70 and come in 40, 60 & 80 liter sizes (I said the wrong sizes in my video). I have a 60L & 80L and I really like them!!

    That was a good load out gear review you did. You got some very nice gear man. I need to get some if the things you got. I have a lot of the gear but not all of it. Dan I do have a question? Your Hammock how much do it hold? I am looking for a Hammock that can hold me at 300Ibs. Yes I am a chubby fat dude lol. I wish I was 250Ibs man. That's what I want to be it. I am trying to lose some weight because my foot Dr said that if I lose some weight the width of my feet 🦶 would Shrinken so I would like to be at least 250Ibs. My feet 🦶has been a very big problem all of my life so I am trying to do something about it because it's getting very very hard for me in the winter time wearing flip flops 🩴 in cold weather because I have Muscle and nerve damage in my feet 🦶 & I have to keep my toes warm so they wouldn't hurt me. This is one reason why I can't go kayaking doing the winter time now. Good video buddy. Thanks you for sharing this.

      I bought some neoprene diving boots with thicker soles and that is what I wear exclusively when I kayak. They are great for gripping on slimy rock bottoms and also for protecting against sharp rocks and debris if you have to get out (or while putting in). The beauty about these is that they have super stretchy uppers and you can get them up to 7 mm thick (that I've seen) and they keep your feet pretty warm. They go to between your ankle and calf in height usually. I started with some relatively cheap ones and now have a decent pair of Mares brand boots. Love them and they have been good for all seasons for me.

      Thank you for the kind words, Mack! The ENO Doublenest that I have supports up to 400lbs, so you should be good in that one. Based on Michael Chrisman's comment above, I may be looking for one that's a little more spacious. I know they make them with spreader bars, but I'm trying to avoid that route if possible to keep size/weight down in my loadout. Merry Christmas!!

    Don’t know if you have any preference as to canoes. And the material as far as weight and durability. Great content on your videos. Thanks

    • @SouthernPaddler
      @SouthernPaddler  8 місяців тому

      Hi Manley- No, I haven't done enough research to really have preferences. I know they have some super-lightweight materials out there, but where I paddle I'd also nee a LOT of durability (rocks, logs, etc.). I think another feature to consider is "flexibility". You want a fairly rigid canoe, but not one that breaks as opposed to bends. I just bought a couple of kayaks, but I think my next upgrade will be my canoe. I'll be doing some more research. Thanks for the kind words!!

    Have you considered a longer hammock? As a big guy, I have found that the larger hammocks are way more comfortable for me to get comfortable and not feel so confined.

    • @SouthernPaddler
      @SouthernPaddler  Рік тому

      No, I haven't done enough research to know they had bigger ones! Which one do you use? Most of the time I sleep pretty good in mine, but this trip I didn't sleep as good because it pressed in on my shoulders more for some reason (probably had it stretched too tight because the trees were farther apart than I would have liked).

      @michaelchrisman4179 Рік тому +1

      @@SouthernPaddler I have a hammock gear system which I really like but there are numerous brands like dutchware, superior gear,etc that make 11 foot hammocks that give you way more space. They are a little more expensive but with down quilt and underquilt, you will reduce your packed size and weight a great deal.

      @SouthernPaddler hey man. I'm a big guy who used to do a lot of backpacking. I always used hammocks.
      My favorite hammock was the Hennessy Hammocks. They make a ton of styles. Just look at their XL series. Up to 7feet tall and like 300 lbs. They have the XXL series that goes up to 350 lbs.
      They make a jungle hammock that has built in bug netting and double layered bottoms and such to stay away from the critters.
      Not cheap. But they are easy to set up. I could get my hammock set up with a rain fly within 5 minutes.
      Then I bought a 20 degree under quilt and a 40 degree top quilt.
      It was a great set up. But it was like $800 for the whole set up.
      Love the vids man. Keep on doing this!!

      @@Colicab83 Thanks for the kind words and the tips. I've heard really good things about Hennessy products. I will definitely check them out. I do enough cold weather camping that I'm willing to shell out a few more bucks to stay warm (and comfortable...lol)! Thanks again for the great info!! 👍💯
