    You call the block Soto, I think. I call that an inner block, as it begins on the inside. O Soto gari, major outer reap is on the outside. So Uchi, inner, soto, outer. I am a Jitsuka, regularly have this argument with Karate people, Shotokan say, inner block, Wado Ryu, outer block; who is right?

    • @DanielPyatt
      @DanielPyatt  4 роки тому

      This is a great question. You can make the case as you suggest that the block starts on the inside therefore call it inner block e.g. Shotokan however whilst any dojo can name any technique how they like as its primarily function is to have meaning in the dojo then. You could say therefore both are correct.
      However, if you a apply a systematic naming protocall then Shotokan is incorrect and the exception to the rule. The reason is that the only universal reference system is the centre line so the action is named in reference to whether is moves outward and away from the centre line or inward towards the centre. This naming protocall can then be applied systematically to the correct names for many throwing techniques but also in consideration of the other planes of the body and hence inside or outside the guard and legs.
      Hope this helps 👍

    What is your "serious" bunkai for the elbow-block sequence?

    • @DanielPyatt
      @DanielPyatt  6 років тому +1

      Heath White Hi, we have several including simple striking, arm locks, neck cranks, and throws I will add it to the list of future videos if your like?

    • @whitewh1
      @whitewh1 6 років тому +1

      That would be great! In general, I think bunkai for the Pinan forms would be a great (long) series.

      Heath White well I am intending to do a fair bit more bunkai moving forward so I can happily include a lot of the Pinans if you think that would be valuable.

      I do ... and let me just say that this channel is fabulous. (1) Your technique is awesome (2) you have a deep understanding of the material (3) you are a talented teacher. Not an easy combination to find. Keep up the good work!

      Heath White thank you Heath, I’m just glad that you find the content useful and interesting. I will hopefully continue to improve the content I can produce and will definitely look at the bunkai for the Pinan series soon. But really glad you like the channel 😊

    You are quite quiet, and also it would be better if you could say left and right so we know which arm or foot we should be moving.

    These videos are already long. Maybe you could add one complete run through the katas instead of just the break down.

    • @DanielPyatt
      @DanielPyatt  6 років тому

      Yep, that will follow, currently there is a complete run through for Pinan Shodan, there is also a run through of Pinan Godan (on the 100 kata challenge video), once the other 2 parts have been realised (Yondan Next week and Godan the week after) the complete versions of all of the kata will follow and I will link them with these videos so they are easy to find. Although that being said there are 100's of versions of each of the Pinan katas on youtube, I'd look at several and find ones that most closely resemble your own training.
