- After testing the Polaris Scrambler XP 1000 S back in 2019 we knew there was a lot left to discover about this new class of sport 4x4 machine. We knew the 55” width and 14” of suspension travel worked amazingly well pounding whoops out in the desert, but how would the Scrambler S work in the sometimes fast, sometimes tight, rocky, and rutted clay based trails back east. Also, how would it stack up against some of the more traditional 4x4 and sport ATVs on the market? Test riders Chad Westcott, Brian Pierce and Brent Johnson set out to find out the answers to these questions and many more in ATV on Demand’s Polaris Scrambler S Series.
In episode 1 the crew heads to Blue Holler Off-Road Park in Mammoth Cave, Ky.. for a proper east coast test ride and first evaluation of the Scrambler XP 1000 S.

Great video guys...I think you taking it out on the trails might change some nay-sayers minds....I remember seeing so many negative comments about these when first released. It sure looks like it does better in the woods than people thought.
The guys are having a lot of fun learning what its capabilities are back here in the east. Next we will find out how it compares to the more standard with Polaris and Can-Am 1000s.
I was one of those naysayers... till I rode one at Top Trails for the day. Y'all went through the same experience I did. Kinda awkward at first BUT it turn ruts and hills that once were technical obstacles into fun 'fly-over' amazement. Bottom line - I love my new SCRAMBO! LOL

I recently purchased Slick products off road wash kit. I was super happy with it. The microfiber cloth is probably one of the nicest microfibers I have ever used, that’s saying a lot because I use to detail cars for a living.

We hope you liked it, we felt this particular machine, being so different than anything else on the market, deserved a deeper dive and some real world testing. Especially after we spent so much time testing 1000cc ATVs last year.
I would be interested to see you run some drag races against the Sportsman and Outlander 1000s. This was a great video and looking for more content on the Scrambler 1000s. Keep up the good work!
Episode 3 will have drag races against the Outlander 1000. There wasn't room for a proper drag race where we filmed Sportsman vs Scrambler.
Eric Gray scrambler s is similar to a sports 850 in terms of speed because of its weight
The other 2 1000s will probably smoke it in a drag race.

Okay, we will find some bigger jumps for Brent. LOL. Obviously the machine is still very controllable it just has a bit more front-end push than say, the 48 inch Wide Sportsman that has a slightly shorter wheelbase on the front end. We will be experimenting with Tire setup to get the most out of it. What an incredibly capable machine.
@@bbreckner9884 we shot our test on the Renegade last weekend with our in-house cross country racer / test rider Evan Hartzel. I was telling Chad that I could see the front end pushing in slow motion shots.

I had a 2018 Can Am Renegade 1000XXC and absolutely loved it for the trails, logging roads, and mountain climbing of the northeast Ride The Wilds we always do here in New Hampshire. I loved everything about it except the width. It felt too top heavy for how wide it was - adding SXS parts like this Scrambler has I could imagine fixing that problem. If Can Am is taking notes - hopefully they’ll make an ultra wide Renegade XXC-R. Either that or I’m going to the dark side!!
How long until Polaris is the first to put dynamic suspension on an atv? Keep vids coming guys.
I am a Honda man: 450r, 300EX. I’ve had the Raptors, Banshees-and the weirdo-the Polaris. A big seller, but the same complaints you guys had: the high center of gravity, heavy weight, and nightmare handling always made me wonder why. What you all don’t see on this vid is that a Polaris can’t take the abuse of hard riding for more than a few years without major mechanical problems. Love the vid, hate Polaris with a passion lol. Ride Red 🤘🏻
Glad you enjoyed the video. Hopefully this Scrambler XP will hold up better. There were lots of claims about it being a tougher design. We'll see.

Besides that sexy voice of your's...I am just saying, I wish I wouldn't be going through with the mud build for mine. Unfortunately, the wheels are already turning and it's too late. lol. I will say..............I want to hit that track and I did keep the stock wheels/tires for just that opportunity. So let's just say I have full intentions of making that trip for 2021 💪 Great footage, great commentary from everyone, and one Hell of a video.

I’d like to see Yamaha offer a sport 1000cc atv like the scrambler and renegade. Or even just a 1000cc grizzly. They have both an 850cc and 1000cc engine for the Wolverine now.
Great Review. Not a machine I'm interested in, I think it's silly honestly. As owner of an 850 Scrambler, I was hoping for an XC woods based model that comes stock with beadlocks and all of the improved chassis upgrades, but at a 48" width, and some better Fox shocks.
Thanks for the positive feedback. We Have Heard from a number of viewers in our original test wishing they still offered a 48-inch version but with all of the upgrades to the Scrambler s. The renegade 1000 could use some competition in the tight stuff.

Great video guys. BUT why would you neuter the scrambler by going back to 14" rims? The 12" rims were one of the greatest appeals to the scrambler S. I went through alot to get 12s to fit on my sportsman 1000. With the extra inch of sidewall you can run lower pressure and hit rocks and roots harder and not ruin your rims or get pinch flats as easy. Going to the 12" rims is one of the best things you can do for ride quality and aggressive riding ability.
At the time we ordered our Wheels the centers were not available for 12 inch wheels. Covid you know. We couldn't wait until they were available. We are very happy with the 14s but understand what you're saying. Are Renegade test unit came with 12s.
We mostly ride east coast trails in eastern TN and HMT. Wife has a turbo s, daughter a krx and me and my son are usually in the talon r. Do you guys think the scrambler s would be a good addition to keep up with the sxs’s. We ride black trails and outlaw also. Been missing my atv days this thing is calling my name.
Absolutely! I think you're exactly the type of person we'd recommend this machine too.. It is the most capable ATV ever produced for the type of trails you're riding and we've had the conversation many times about how the S models are perfect for hanging with a group of SXSs.

What offset on the wheels did you go with
Hey guys when your doing jumps with the 1000 S are you mainly in 2wd or AWD, when your hitting a steep ramp and you really wanna get some height and distance should be in AWD??
We were in 2wd on the track. We don't generally jump anything in AWD because the front tires might grab more than expected when you land.. It's all about speed tho, so AWD wouldn't necessarily help unless you're back tires were slipping... Be careful! The track we were on was designed for SXSs to jump on, so the landings were pretty forgiving 👌

The olny thing that bothers me is the shifter. It hit your knees in park which sucks.

Hi! Do you know what is the basic setup for WalkerEvans shocks? (I have the EU model "road legal"-model with upgraded WalkerEvans.) WalkerEvans or Polaris don´t answer this kind of questions. On my own experiment the setup is quite soft.-Especially in the front end.(a lot of front dive.-> a lot of turning..)
Here is a link to the 2021 owners manual. You should find the stock suspension settings in there. We'd recommend studying the minimum and maximum spring preload settings. This will help you raise and lower he ride height of the ATV. We'd try lowering the ride height in increments to see if this helps reduce body roll and dive. Make sure to adjust both ends to balance the ride height out front to rear. After that, we might try increasing low-speed compression damping to help reduce dive and roll, while decreasing high speed compression damping to help the shocks continue to react to pot holes, speed bumps and other high speed hits. Not sure if this will cure your problems but it's where we'd start. Please let us know how things work out for you. We're curious about your street legal Scrambler.

No, the Scrambler will be the one representative for the Polaris s models in this series. Pretty sure the findings would be similar although that unit is sprung a bit softer. Next We compare wide chassis to narrow chassis.

@@jeramiescott3364 honestly, when ordering the gear we didn't check any of the other styles. Motocross boots tend to eat up the finish on ATV plastic. The over the boot pants offer a lot of protection to the machines.

Rolled mine over, not even hard and broke welds on the frame. Had 20 hours on it and was totaled.... makes me think these have a week frame for 900lb machine. Might get a renegade xxc now.

You'll have to go find another review, LMAO. Tires are the first thing most people change on an ATV. Go find the number one video on the machine. It is our first test that was completely stock.

Polaris has the rs1 too. It’s literally a rzr xp1000 with only one seat in the middle. Don’t also forget the 59” wide ace 900 too.
Not being overweight makes you a better rider not the machine.
There is a lot to be said for a lighter machine.
As much as I despise this machine, to be fair, dirt commanders push.
We're not done experimenting with tires in the setup. What makes for a predictable sliding rear tire doesn't necessarily reduce front-end push.
Nice looking ride... but.... its a Polaris......not a chance of me spending my money on anything made by them.... I'd like to be able to ride it for a few years..... without dumping a few grand in parts into it after a few months......
