- Derwent Metallic Mixed Media Set On Behalf Of Cult Pens
As you can see from the title of this video, I was sent this Derwent Metallic Mixed Media Set from Cult Pens to review, I would please encourage you to read my written review and listen to my UA-cam review as to how and why this collaboration came about and how I hope for many more opportunities like this from Cult Pens in the future. I have added a range of links further down the description section should you like to check out other areas of the review, be sure to scroll down to find them.
In brief, I have shopped at Cult Pens for almost seven years, I am well versed on their high professional standards and their amazing competitive prices, but I am also aware that in this time of large online shopping platforms, I feel it is important to help and support our smaller and local art stores as and when we can. I would also like you to especially check out my written review to see the amazing price Cult Pens are selling this beautiful Derwent Metallic Mixed Media Set for at the time of uploading this review. Finally, I am in no way shape or form getting a commission or being paid for completing this review, knowing I am bringing to you the best prices I can find and helping art stores like Cult Pens is payment enough for me. I rely on the generosity of this community to provide donations as and when then can no matter how big or small it is all hugely appreciated as well as the views, likes and comments from the videos and written reviews I supply.
I've always struggled with metallic art supplies over the years and my struggle has been primarily due to my own lack of imagination and creativity, but recently I have reviewed a few other branded metallic supplies and as such have been forced to find ways and areas in which to use such materials. For the purpose of this review of the Derwent Metallic Mixed Media Set I hope and think I have found one excellent use for metallic supplies, but you be the judge. I would love to know by leaving comments below if you have used metallic colored pencils or paints before and if so what you thought of them and perhaps more importantly I'd love for you to share as many ideas for their use in both watercolor and colored pencil mediums.

I cannot recommend Cult Pens highly enough! Excellent customer service and their packaging/protection is second to none. Nice folks! (I’m not associated with them in any way, simply a happy repeat customer). Thanks for giving them a shout-out, Harry!
Yeah Cult Pens are amazing and it is so difficult in this day and age to find an art store that not only has a huge stock, but also have amazing staff, ensuring fast delivery, just all round excellent service. Thank you so much for your kind and generous comment, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it, thank you so much.
Such an awesome review! Definitely something I would like to order. Thank you
I've bought from Cult Pens a number of times; it's a great company. The prices are good, the postage is very reasonable, and their selection is huge. Last time I was able to buy some pens open stock that I've only ever seen come as a set anywhere else. It meant I didn't have to re-buy an entire set just to replace one pen that had run out.
They are indeed a fantastic company which is why I really love doing reviews for them because the longer companies like Cult Pens are about the harder these big companies have to work.
Thanks! It’s great that you are supportive of small businesses. Enjoyed the review and loved the painting.
Thank you so very much for your wonderful comment and for your generous donation I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it, thank you so very much.
Oh I love this set!!! Beautiful colors, great ideas to make with them!!!
I've purchased from Cult Pens a couple of times. I really like them. Wonderful selection.
Cult Pens are one of my favourite online shops. They've got great customer service and have good prices.
Great review as always. Take care! PS: There is one set of pencils I do have that I had to go on the internet to find a chart to give any kind of information on them.
I have been buying from Cult pens for a few years, I buy almost all of my pens from Cult Pens plus other art supplies, they have the best selection of pens and some great offers. I love metallic pens, pencils and paint. I use them for Zentangle type patterns and as highlights on pictures. I think metallics are fun to add a sparkle or sheen and especially good for greeting cards. I often use them on black paper and in mixed media but rarely use them on their own for larger pictures. I really love Derwent products and have the pencils and the metallic paint pan set. I think the set you reviewed would be a great starter for someone new to metallic pencils and paint.
Great review Harry, thanks for this. I'm already a regular customer of Cult Pens, their customer service is fantastic, it's the first place I always look when I want to buy something.
Thank you !
2nd comment, sorry. I had put the set in my cart at Cult Pens and the cost was reasonable for Derwent. I was watching this video while I was browsing the site because they will ship to the US. After this video ended and I commented the first time, I went back to Cult Pens to browse through their inks (I use dip pens for line art and sketching and wanted to shop their drawing inks, as well. This set was on the bottom of one of the pages as a recommendation and the set was $25.++. 67% less than 10min before, so I thought I would share. I don’t have any idea how long they will be marked down. This was the first time I had visited the site but the prices are excellent on the inks, as well.
Yeah Rebecca their prices are amazing across the board and they are always adding reductions for a time to products, they really are excellent. I made a promise to myself when I started this channel that I would always do right by those watching my channel. That means only averting peoples eyes to products and companies that I know are good, honest and reliable, Cult Pens are right at the top of that list.
Thanks!
At their site this set is 25.12. I think that's a great price. The site also tells the names of all the colors. They ship to US but I didn't check shipping costs. Thanks, Harry.
I checked the cult pens website and they also have a similar set with graphitint pencils and paint pans! It was only $21 usd, though that doesn't include shipping to the U.S, but it was less than I was expecting. They also have some unique sets of the lightfast pencils and some other pencil lines that I haven't seen from larger retailers like Blick or Jerry's Artarama, so if you're interested in buying a set of the lightfast pencils, I'd reccomend checking out the website.
I love metallics and have bought several sets over the years. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to fit them in, without shifting the balance of a piece or thinking “oh! A little dab over here would be good, and a line over there. Now that I have done that, I HAVE TO put some over there “ until I have ruined the entire painting. But I love metallic colors and would really like to learn how to incorporate it into some of my stuff. I have good instincts, unless I am using metallics. Love the set and it is very reasonable for Derwent on Cult Pens. Do they know you as Art Gear GUIDE there? They are asking who referred me and I would like you to get credit. Thanks!
So nice! Maybe you covered this and I missed it…are these paints made from Inktense ingredients with the mica added? They look to me like the Inktense blocks act, if that makes sense. Thank you for reviewing! I think this set would make a lovely gift for “ the artist who has everything.”😊
That is an excellent point and no you didn’t miss it cause I was the one who missed it, I should have mentioned that in the review. You see, I am always getting thanked by people for uploading such detailed reviews, but the truth is, my reviews have only become detailed because of you guys requesting information relevant to you and when I put all the different questions and requests into my videos, that is what makes them detailed, that is what makes me more and more knowledgeable.
Anyway I’ll stop rambling and answer the question. I asked my contact at Derwent just to make sure I was correct and they said there is Mica in the metallic pans, but they are also going to double check with the department involved in the ingredients and get back to me.
Regarding the Inktense pans, Being the same, well according to my contact they do have similar ingredients in them, but essentially, the Inktense paints are permanent, they act like ink, when you add them to you Watercolor Paper and they dry, you can apply layer after layer and not disturb the layer below. With the metallic set for example once you apply a layer and let it dry, with some water and a little bit of scrubbing, the layer can be lifted, to a certain extent and time factored into the drying process.
Thank you so much for the question I really appreciate it and I won’t leave it out of my next review. If my contact gets back to me with something different I will absolutely let you know. Thank you
@@TheArtGearGuide Harry, thank you so much. Yes, that’s the way of reviews, isn’t it? I’ve learned more about the products I’ve reviewed after they’ve been posted and then comments gained from viewers. I would imagine the ingredients are similar. I have the Inktense pencils & blocks, and they do lift a small amount but stain for the most part. I have found Inktense to feel & move slightly differently on the paper. I enjoy using them. Thank you for all the research & time you put into your channel. I appreciate it!
Can you do a review of all the other Castle Arts products you haven't reviewed and possibly do a giveaway of all Castle Arts products?
Just curious because I really, really want to try all Castle Arts products, but unfortunately, we are broke.
If not, that's ok
Keep Creating Amazing Art!
Thanks for the heart
😘
Hi Louis I will really do my best, I am not sure which Castle Art products I haven’t reviewed yet, so I will look through my catalog of videos and work out what I still need to review.
I’m doing a giveaway of the Castle Art Adult Colouring books but we are having a problem here in the U.K. and I don’t know how long it will last. I went to post a parcel to America via Royal Mail and couldn’t because their systems have been attacked by Cyber Criminals and so I’d have to use a courier which I’ve never done before and will be even more expensive than Royal Mail so I am watching their website to see when they are ready to ship outside the U.K. again.
Regardless I will do everything I can to help Louis, I have received a lot of help from people here on UA-cam and even companies sending me things to review which allows me to keep the channel going and so I know just how important it is for me to pass on that help to others where I can. I tried to help an artist out with some supplies in Syria, nothing much but it would have helped this artist out as they can’t get a lot of art supplies in their country. However the items I sent were not accepted by Syria because they came from the Royal Mail in the U.K. So in order to get them there is a whole thing we need to go through. Anyway I am rambling and I will indeed try to help you as best I can
They look like a caran Derwent ache
Hope i win the next give away
You're being paid 'in natura' by them.
What does that mean, I’ve never heard that saying before “I’m being paid in Natura” I think I’ve lived a very sheltered life 😂😂
Mann,
I really want to win a giveaway so bad.
I am not doing too well
Been of mental thoughts
And I can't do anything to heal it.
Not can I afford anything to heal it.
I just wanna win a giveaway for once!
I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!
