even though it must be a nice experience sharing meals it would not be the same nice experience all together sleeping ...if you cannot sleep as you said in fact!!! I just plan knowing I will have today lot more for a good n night sleep , I am in my 60 so I need it for the next day route.
Hi Rob, thanks for all your great videos. I had a bit of trouble following this one. Do you mind putting the link or giving us the name of the accomodation that is similar to the Miradores? Much appreciated. Blessings.
@@robscamino Thank you for your suggestions..These are beautiful hotel accomodations right on the camino. I'd definitely stay here, but I'm short of time, so I'll be starting in Leon.
It would be nice to have the names of these accomodation types on the screen, especially as these are Spanish words. I didn't catch them unfortunately. I just got that there dorm/ hostel places - Asbergues? and hotels.
I'm not sure there is much differentiation! Usually I only know they call themselves a Casa Rural, as they listed themselves online as such! I tend to think of them as being akin to a B&B. Bed and Breakfast. Often in a family home. I'll add some links below to some I have stayed in. Maybe that will help you to see how they look compared to other types of Accommodation.
Lovely place in Hornillos run by sisters Maria and Beline. (there's an interview with them on this channel) They have a small bar/restaurant next to the house. www.gronze.com/castilla-y-leon/burgos/hornillos-camino/casa-abuelo
Yes of course. No need to use an agency. Most people don't! Many don't even book, but just see where they end up each day, and look for somewhere to stay. All part of the adventure. I would only suggest booking (perhaps a day or two ahead) in busy periods or in very popular 'choke points'. Like in Zubiri or Roncevalles.
Thank you Rob I see that you are from Sydney I also live in Sydney I was wondering is there a way we could meet over Coffee would love to speak more with you as im doing the Camino for the first time Im a fit 74 year old Im really enjoying all your posts thetre so helpful and informative etc Gracias Margo
@@margaretmarydempster4738 I would suggest less of a problem in Hotels, but based on no evidence at all! Just the less dense living conditions. I still check beds regardless of the establishment!
It’s not true that Donativos “don’t have to pay.” This comment is misleading. As a result your guest is unknowing (?) supporting the idea that you don’t have to pay ANYTHING. This impacts the possible meal offering for the next days pilgrim offerings. 😢
100% agree Tonya. Jenny said "If you don't have any money, you don't have to pay anything" . This needs to be put in context. Donativo means 'donation'. You should make a donation if you have money. How much? It's often suggested that you 'donate' the amount you would normally pay at an Albergue. Sadly too many people think Donativo = Free! It doesn't. The donations have to pay for the upkeep and food where provided! There is a sad story about the Albergue at Granon. The Pilgrims of the previous day did not leave enough in donations to feed the Pilgrims of the next day...... Don't be those Pilgrims.
What accommodation tips have you got to share?

Some people cope well with communal sleeping, some enjoy the experience, some have to due to budget….
I stayed in about 20 Albergues last year, to try it. It was fine. Some were great!
good to know, thanks!!!
@@robscamino
Rob ,

Sure, I can try. It will be a long video LOL.
This is one of the best accommodation guides. www.gronze.com/camino-frances

Do you mean like a 'Parador'? This one. It has an Albergue + Hotel. www.hotelsanantonabad.com/albergue/
This one we didn't mention but it's amazing. Just a Hotel (no albergue) and not cheap. But worth it in my view. I'll add a video link. sanzoilo.com/

Jenny said she walked a Camino in Italy. Where can I find out more about that Camino?
It was probably the Via Francigena

Good point, sorry. Sadly we can't add to the existing video, but I'll add an explanation in the video description box now.
Done. Please ask, if you need additional information. Might give me an idea for other videos. 🙂
@@robscamino Thank you so much! That is very helpful! I hope to do the Camino if I am allowed to travel with the whole covid thing.

Excelente entrevista Rob! Once I arrive in a town without reservation, how do you
distinguish a casa rural ?

Legarda. A bit off the Camino! Didn't realise when I booked it. I was the only one there. www.directhotels.com/Legarda/El_Rincon_de_Sophie

Fine but I can’t tolerate bed bugs! 😱
Me too. Get in the habit of checking for them. Along the seams of mattresses etc..... If you find evidence of any, I'd move on.
@@robscamino I can afford to stay in better accommodation so fingers crossed they are not a problem there? 🤔
