    What would you do?

I learned the hard way on a thru hike. By mailing boxes of food and essentials ahead over six months forced me to sacrifice a lot of flexibility. Being held hostage to the postal service, requiring me to be at certain places at specific times to pick up my resupply packages. Never again! Same goes for booking ahead. I know that I can stop and find an Albergue sooner or later in the day than expected. If Albergues are full then splitting the cost of hotel with my new friends will be a treat.

I think I've become a mix of many of these different types that you've listed! It's possible to do/be both: sometimes book ahead and sometimes go with the flow. There are so many different factors that can influence this: which route you're walking (I know your advice is for the Camino Frances, but lesser traveled routes, walking in France, etc, require some different considerations), time of year, length of stages. For my first couple of Caminos I really embraced not planning and being flexible to whatever came my way, and that was such a beautiful (and different!) experience for me. But after walking in France, and with COVID, I had the experience of booking ahead, and I can see some benefits to that approach (just like your arm wrestling competition!!). So now I mix it up, sometimes booking ahead, sometimes not :)

Hi Nadine! We are big fans of you :) thanks for sharing some light and experience ! That all depends of the route and “other circumstances “, here in Japan when we walk now, we have to book otherwise we are charged double… @NadineWalks

    Hi Erica and Ricky!
Thank you for the valuable tips.
I will take your advice and prebook the first two or three stops and then I will let the Camino lead the way.
    Muchas Gracias

I am not sure I like not knowing where I will be sleeping after a long day of walking, and feeling tired, hungry and dirty. I am also not particularly happy about dealing with bedbugs, in certain hostels or albergus. I also don't want to spend so much more and still get the same annoyances; bedbugs...

Totally get you, sometimes it’s not easy! One thing we have to highlight, bed bugs aren’t a common thing. I think there are more comments about bed bugs then the bed bugs in general!

Erica! You are looking so beautiful! Are you guys in Japan here? The energies of the place really agree with you. I have a Venus Astrocartography line that runs through Kyoto and Osaka, which I would love to experience and incorporate into my being. I wonder if you have the same aspect there. Speaking of personal beauty and Japan, I think it’s interesting that my Venus line runs right through my stepfather’s ancestral village there. I loved him dearly, but was it all fated? Even though he was a first generation Hawaiian, my heart line runs exactly through the village his name came from. It was meant to be. Speaking of my family, my little brother is a test-flight engineer for NASA and he maintains the ISS from Mission Control in Houston, so seeing an astronaut in this very cute video made me want to tell you all about it. Also, I want to say that you two have really mastered the format - your presence onscreen is so good. So good. Seeing the two of you makes me feel happy, so either you’re in Japan or you have really perfected your art. Probably both. Definitely, you two are masters here.
Also, I’m glad to know that I won’t be sleeping on the streets of the Camino. Thanks. Soon.
