This performance of Brahms' 2nd symphony by the Israel Philharmonic and Zubin Mehta is an absolute revelation. The pacing is perfect and the nuances of the phrasing show how this symphony was meant to sound. The true magic begins as soon as 6:12. What I would give to have been at that concert!

This is a magnificent performance of one of Brahms's most lyrical and beautiful symphonies. It just sings with this great orchestra from the first bar to the end.

I have always admired Mehta's Brahms. With the orchestra that debuted under Arturo Toscanini's baton, there is so much history that comes through. Mehta's association with the Israel Philharmonic is longer than Eugene Ormandy's was with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Mehta is often overlooked, injudiciously, but this recording (and so many others) is a testament to his greatness.

Boy tha5t old "workhorse" of all of the symphony orchestra conductors, Zubin Meht a, is still conducting! Does anyone happen to know, offhand, just how old he is and for how long has he been professionally conducting ?
He was born in 1936
@@user-rz1ry7kq8j Rabbi I know, from Wikip[edia, that he was born on April 29, 1936 in what is now Mumbai India. And Mehta's father, Mehli, was the founder of the Bombay Symphony Orchestra.
This year the maestro mr zobin Mehta retires and we Israelis celebrate to honor 50 years of his work as our conductor@@steveburrus9347
