Cooking a traditional dish in a Ladakhi home / Skieu Recipe

Detailed description of how to make Skieu, an extremely popular dish eaten by the Ladakhis in India, all through the year. The best part was learning this recipe from a Ladakhi lady in her own home. A soup-based dish comprised of root vegetables like potatoes, and onion shoots cooked with pieces of dough, this is a healthy and light meal. It is delicious both with or without meat.
In this video, I spent a beautiful morning with this lady and her son in the village of Saspol, 76 kms away from Leh. If you drop by Saspol, this is an option to live in her guesthouse and try the food in her restaurant Café de Saspol which is on the Leh Saspol highway and serves an international, Indian and Ladakhi dishes.

I am sure you loved this experience. Its so beautiful living with them. This reminds me of the time I lived in a Ladakhi village for 10 days and enjoyed observing them making thupka, momos and butter tea and also spent time working in their farms among other things.

You make a pretty shape by kneading flour.
At the end, I put them in and boil them.
