  • In this in-depth retrospective, I tell the story behind one of horror cinema's most over looked sequel classics:1981's FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2! I delve deep into its fast-tracked development, shaky production, critical reception and complicated legacy, while providing my own thoughts on the film. Directed by Steve Miner. Starring: Adrienne King, Amy Steel, John Furey, Steve Dash, Warrington Gillette, Jack Marks, Betsy Palmer and Walt Gorney.

      I love them all, but if I'm being honest:
      1. The Final Chapter
      2. Jason Takes Manhattan
      3. Jason Lives
      4. 2009 reboot
      5. Part 3
      6. Freddy vs. Jason
      7. Part 2
      8. 1980 original
      9. Jason X
      10. The New Blood
      11. A New Beginning
      12. Jason Goes to Hell

      Friday the 13 part 6 was a joke the person who played Jason was the worst pick they should of kept the actor from part 3 or part 4 and part 5 they could of done it better now part 8 was a classic along with Jason vs Freddie now the big question is what can they do with its franchise now to be able to compete with Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends this company has a lot to get done if they want to beat them hopefully they will come up with something cleaver like going that retro route it might solve the problem pick some actual actors you would never see in the same movie together something similar to what Scream did and another movie I can't think of at the moment but that sounds like a good idea for them now it can work and throw in some very good writer's and director and you have yourself a well done movie.

    • @theshape3431
      @theshape3431 2 роки тому +1

      I think a lot of that is because of the age of the movies. The way the lighting looks in the older ones and the way the sounds are gives it a more dark eerie feel. As technology got better, picture became more clear and sounds became sharper, less bassy, and watered down. Different lenses were used to capture and different equipment used for sound.

    • @gameroftheyear1000
      @gameroftheyear1000 2 роки тому +3

      I agree. The first four are best because those are the ones where Jason is still just a human he actually falls down and feels pain when he gets hurt, as opposed to taking on a barrage of bullets and walking through them as if nothings happening or taking on all sorts of abuse that parts 2-4 Jason wouldn’t be able to take.

    I'm shocked Pt 2 was panned as much as it was in '81. Honestly, when i first saw it 20+ years ago for the first time I Loved it! I thought it perfectly illustrates the Jason characters development and progression. Starting with the obvious, he begins with the burlap sack over his head, logical that it would be something simple to cover uis deformed face. Also Pt 2 shows him as more of an average built guy, and almost subliminally tells the tale over the series that the more he kills the physically larger and more powerful he becomes. Makes sense. The scariest part of this particular instalment and perhaps the eeriest is the whole cabin/shack he lives in. It very much fits the whole narrative, the shrine of his mother Truly is the creepiest, most original and frightening part. Its absolutely scary (the whole devoted shrine to his dead mother... Totally eerie weird!😁👍)

    Part 2 is my favorite installment in the franchise. Atmospheric, it perfectly captures the feel of the late '70s/early '80s, for which I have acute nostalgia. Authentic and second only to Part 1, it best captures the feel of a real camp, showing laudatory respect for the franchise's narrative roots. Ginny, my favorite last girl along with Alice, has what I think is the best survival sequence. Jason with that pillowcase over his head is terrifying. There are no gimmicky 3D special effects or uber-unbelievable plot developments, and the franchise still took itself seriously at this point. And of course, its final jump scare is the best in the series, followed closely by Part 1's final surprise.

As someone who has been reading about and watching these films for over 40 years, learning some new tidbits about the production is very exciting. The only critique I’ll offer of this video is the minimization of Amy Steel’s performance as Ginny, one of the ultimate final girls. She outshines all other Friday final girls (no offense to Adrienne King intended) in terms of her combination of intelligence, strategy and wit, and for me is on par with Jamie Lee Curtis in the OG Halloween and Sharni Vinson in You’re Next. She combines intelligence, charm and fortitude in a unique way and makes this the best film of the series (along with the many great kills and Stu Charno!). Watch it now or again!

    I believe it was the scene where he pops out from under the bed sheets beside Sandra’s corpse that finally did me in, and couldn’t watch it no more?
    Thankfully, my folks brought a VCR home from the school they taught at for the weekend(since they were insanely expensive) so I could record it on VHS, and probably watched it dozens of times? Still have it at home, along with Superman 2 “The ABC TV cut”!
    God I miss the 80’s so much. Best decade to grow up in terms of film, tv and music! We probably played outside 12 hours per day, and only hit the Atari or Commodore 64 on rainy days? Stranger Things absolutely captured the essence and magic of growing in a small town during that era?

Namely that Jason was never meant to be the original villain, nor was he meant to be immortal, just highly durable (in contrast to Michael Myers, who is very clearly indicated to be immortal from the first film).
    Thanks for all your hard work, and great informative videos.
    P.S. I think Jason from Part III is my favourite.

    It's between this or Part 3 as my personal favorites. For Part 2 I just really love the final girl. Amy Steel's very cute but also does a good job coming across as tough and smart. Ginny also has some great moments battling Jason, the parts I always look forward to being the chainsaw and hiding in a bush to kick him in the balls. Also, it's a tragedy the bed double kill was cut

    You know your stuff! Not many people are aware that 5 different people played Jason in this film, particularly Carl Fullerton donning the outfit for the double impalement scene? Like you said, it was a complex shot in which they only had one crack at making it look perfect, but sadly was cut by the MPAA anyways?
    I do believe however, Jerry Wallace did most, if not all the hand and foot insert shots, excluding Jason’s legs during the prologue(Lutter). He did do the Alice ice pick kill though.
    Was so happy that Fullerton finally released the cut footage after all those years? Many fans thought it was lost or destroyed forever, like most of the cut footage in Paramounts vaults, which CCLM author Peter Bracke sifted through for weeks, trying to uncover.
    Well done sir!!!

    Little side note…. I was first introduced to this flick as the Spanish Dub in Latin American TV…. They would cut out the whole skinny dipping scene…. It would start with Terry on the Lake to an awkward jump of her running after Scott…. This was back in the late 80’s….. it wasn’t until the early 90’s that they began playing the series on Cinecanal that I finally saw the missing chunk!

    Yeah fourth one is the best. For me it's the 80's teen movie angle, when you think about it, without Jason it could be a John Hughes film. I mean Zito really makes you invest into these characters and they have depth, making that part of the movie enjoyable and making the eventual kills little bit more meaningful to the viewer.

      Have to agree. The 4th was probably the best crafted film of the originals, with an obvious bigger budget and likeable characters. That, and the fact that Ted White was by far the most brutal and imposing Jason of the bunch, made 4 my favourite!

    Jason spoiled the horror. When you didn't know who the hell is the murderer at the 1st one it was a total horror. Same as the terror when you haven't seen how Jaws looks like, or Black chrismes when you could only know how the eye of the murderer looks like. Our imagination scares us much more than any scene, except few - When alien monster find its way out of the astronaut's stomatch... and nothing scared the hell out of me as the end scene of Burnt offering... That was a masterpiece horror ending put the whole movie at the top of the list...

  • @WrestlingSmarks
    @WrestlingSmarks 11 місяців тому +1

    The ending is a dream.
    Muffin, being a pretty strong indicator, because the characters that see her weren’t the one who found the body. So they had no idea that the dog was dead.
    The larger piece of evidence is actually the next movie that shows Jason remove the machete from his shoulder before sneaking away from his home. Making it impossible for the ending of part two to have taken place, because when he jumped through the window in part two, the machete is still firmly lodged in his shoulder.
    It’s a dream.
