So.... Went to a mechanic for a turn signal not functioning correctly turns out that my clock spring was damaged at the old shop when they replaced my airbag. I specifically told them if the switch is good and I only need a clock spring that I do not want the switch replaced to save me costs. It is my right to decide what parts go in my car if they are not needed. They told me that I had to replace both even though you actually can put in a new clock spring with an old switch if the switch functions and vice versa you can put in a new switch with an old clock spring if the clock spring functions. I made sure to ask for my old parts. The clock spring was indeed damaged quite severely. But the switch was tested electrically and for the auto on auto off cut off function and it functions perfectly. It is my understanding that if a mechanic says you need something that you don't that you can sue them for up to triple the amount. It was a $180 part plus labor that I did not need. Should I pursue this
You'd have to talk to a lawyer with automotive experience for that answer. As old aircooled VWs don't have clock springs, I can only speak from the little experience I have with them. Most commonly the spring is integrated into other steering component parts. As the airbag is a safety item controlled by the clock spring, and if the clock spring is part of an assembly that includes the turn signal switch, that may have been the mechanics way of covering their liabilities.
It's an old Matco "pocket screwdriver" with the name worn off and the clip broken if memory serves. Search "pocket screwdriver" and I'm sure you'll find something that will work.
You saved the day again with this great video, my 72 needed a new switch but someone removed the old wiring plug.
Glad to be of service!
This is exactly the explanation that I needed
Thank you
Your tutorials are very easy to follow. Thanks for posting!

man I needed this 6 months ago so I wouldn't have given a shop 700 bucks
Wow 700 bucks for a turn signal switch install. Did it really cost that much

www.jbugs.com/product/211953513G.html click on the “Tips” tab. I have all the information on the wires listed there.

Where do you get your mini pocket flat head screwdriver with the magnetic end at?
