Thank you very much for posting this video. It made taking my dash apart as easy as it was done in the video (and with manual tools at that). Still haven’t found my problem but this went a long way in helping. One thing anyone attempting this may want to keep in mind is that the plastic is cheap and if you don’t crack at least one part during disassembly-consider yourself one lucky son of a gun...good luck.
Great thorough presentation. Too many inexperienced butchers on UA-cam showing viewers how to booger up their interior trim. It's refreshing to see this procedure performed in a professional manner. Well done!
Great video! I found a couple more screws that were shown, but the cluster came out just the way you demonstrated. Your video gave me the confidence to try the repair myself and it worked. Thanks.
On a 2003, there are three screws on the top of the bezel. The third is above the air conditioner vent on the radio console. Also, I was able to do this without completely removing the dash cover.
I tried this, and it turned out to be a lot harder than it looked. I never did get the top panel off, and the front panel cracked in 3 places before I gave up and just wedged the cluster out of the loosened panels. There were several more screws on my car than mentioned. I would caution people against trying this themselves.
Yeah - on a 2005 there's a few more screws that have to come out than what he tells you. Also it's a pain in the ass getting the bezel around the instrument cluster off without breaking any of the clips at the bottom that wraps under the heat/air panel. Finally got them to snap out without breaking the bezel, I felt lucky. Didn't feel safe working around the airbag so I disconnected the battery while doing all this shit.
That's awesome! However. I reinstalled mine (after repair) and now I cannot disable the anti theft horn honking & fuel pump shut off.... Please. Please. Please.... Make a video showing the reinstall & anti theft 'fix'. Please....
Thank you for the video and I can do all that you have done but my problem is replacing instrument panel light bulbs. I have four big and three smaller than turn out to replace and then several very small bulbs all over the panel which I can't get out for some reason. Do they even come out??? The parts stores all are having trouble finding the correct bulbs that I need to replace the twist out bulbs can you help me with that info as well? And of course some info on whether the smaller multiple bulbs come out and can be replaced. Thank you so much and thanks again for the informative video great audio and no distractions and very thorough.
@Saxobuzzle By the way... It is sooo impressive of the cavaliers and sunfire are almost identical that's why I came because I thought that it should be the same procedures.
hi what would not make my mile light numbers work on the dash everything else work on the dash like it should and the floor shifter not light up ethier and how can i fix it already check the fuse they are good
What is the piece called that is right up against the windshield. Mine is cracked in so many places. Can that be replaced without taking the part of the dashboard where the airbag is off? I have a 1999 Chevy Cavalier
same here, I just touch it and it cracks again... it's the Dash Cover, the one removed here to get to the cluster is the Instrument Panel Cover... I'm shopping for both
Can I order just new bulbs for the cluster, or I need to send the whole Instrumental Cluster for the installation? Are all the bulbs are soldered there or just some? Thank you for the informative film.
Very good tutorial sir. after watching this tutorial I felt like I was able to do it without any trouble... I'll tell you why I came to see your video... I have a 2003 sunfire and I want to change the "odometer" color. Sunfire is red but I want it white... could you tell me how I change the bulbs behind the odometer, I mean, what kind of bulbs do I need. Watts or voltage and where do I find it. Do I ask too much ? I hope not ah ah!
Is there any way to take ONLY the clear plastic lens off that covers the gages without going through all the work you just performed? There's a bunch of dirt and dust in there and I'd like to clean it out. Someone on another site I was looking at said something about a notch that's on that piece. Where is it located?
I have a 2000 Calvalier and there are 3 screws they don't show. I cracked the cluster trying to remove it before I realized the issue. Just remember if it doesn't want to come off you probably missed a screw, I'm supremely pissed right now
It was very similar but I remember there were several screws that they did not show. If you start pulling on the cluster and there's a lot of resistance I would stop immediately or you'll end up breaking it, mine was very fragile
I think when they pull that vent from the middle of the dash up under the windshield there was another screw and I remember when I went to pop off the front cluster there was a screw they didn't show so I could pull the cluster off from around the radio
Hi 314, I have a 2004 Cavalier sport coupe and all the gauges are shot except for the speedometer. How much would it cost for a mechanic to install a new one? Could the bad cluster in my car have anything to do with my passenger side headlight to stay dim and cause the yellow wrench light to go on after switching to high beam? (The passenger light stays dim even when switching to high beam, but the driver side headlight works as normal) I drove my car through a lot of bad slop because of this cold winter.
too expensive to repair and for what, makes no sense to put money on a car that is already shitty. Ive been driving with the bad cluster for 1 year now, never had a problem. I don't know at what speed I'm going, but if you've been driving for years, you feel it. I also always gas up, never had a single problem. Id rather save that money to buy a better car in the future
I totally disagree Latin. My old 98 cavalier has been a Godsend to me as a good backup. My truck went down with starting issues and a week later brake line leak so I will take care of my old car in appreciation and the repairs have not been expensive at all so far. I do have to do a rear brake job on it but that's a normal thing anyway. It's only my opinion but my old car deserves the tlc ha ha.
Naegleria Fowleri if u can fix or replace it, relatively cheap, why not. My 04 only has 113k on it, had it since new, and has been very reliable. Other than this cluster and other minor repairs, its been a great car.
on a 2004 cavilier on the radio witch style plug is it? the older blue and white one or is it the newer rectangle style i do not have the the bose system... i wish to kno so i can have all the parts i need to swap out radio
You make it look so easy, but I know those clusters are total pain in the ass. Thanks for vid.

Thanks Like. Made the job easy for me. Installed the stereo and in no time at all.
no te entiendo el idioma pero si me sirvió el vídeo.gracias es muy explícito.mi auto es un z24.

100% agree with you Larry.

My gas gauge stage one full with the key off then falls over on my heating gauge when I turn it on

Awesome video Sir!!! Just changed mine out in about 40 mins. 2005 chevy cavalier fixed :)
3:55: I was not able to find that clip on the right. I was able to replace the cluster anyway thanks to your instructions. It was just very tight.
tks for video, from mexico city, this is very good, tks again

nice!!! i love youtube!
there's nothing better to do it yourself!!
💪👍
I totally agree for piece of mind and saving thousands of dollars over the high cost of repairs now. The repair shops make as much as doctors anymore.
@Saxobuzzle By the way... It is sooo impressive of the cavaliers and sunfire are almost identical that's why I came because I thought that it should be the same procedures.
Everything looks good now. Except the odometer is no longer showing. 🥺
I love when the people know what to do
hi what would not make my mile light numbers work on the dash everything else work on the dash like it should and the floor shifter not light up ethier and how can i fix it already check the fuse they are good
The temp gauge on my 02 cavalier does the same thing!
Yeah just got a 2004 cavalier with the temp and fuel gauges not working
What is the piece called that is right up against the windshield. Mine is cracked in so many places. Can that be replaced without taking the part of the dashboard where the airbag is off? I have a 1999 Chevy Cavalier
I have a 2004 and just noticed mine is cracked there as well. Didn't realize it till now.
same here, I just touch it and it cracks again... it's the Dash Cover, the one removed here to get to the cluster is the Instrument Panel Cover... I'm shopping for both
My lights on the dash works but I can barely see the odometer really dim. I have a 1999 chevy cavalier.

What a cluster fu**, lol. Now I see why a friend brough his cavalier to me to install a HU and amplifier, he had already broken it in several places.

while the dash is all apart as you show can the dash air bag be disconnected and removed by unplugging the connector plug?
I have a 2000 Calvalier and there are 3 screws they don't show. I cracked the cluster trying to remove it before I realized the issue. Just remember if it doesn't want to come off you probably missed a screw, I'm supremely pissed right now
+Jacob Smith did your 2000 match up to this video?
It was very similar but I remember there were several screws that they did not show. If you start pulling on the cluster and there's a lot of resistance I would stop immediately or you'll end up breaking it, mine was very fragile
