I preferred the T+A as it sound it more open and transparent, likely due to the DSD upscaling. However, they both are excellent dacs. Thank you for your excellent work of fantastic gear.
What I have been told is as you move up the line in streamers like the Grimm mu1 you will get the full potential out of the dac. I have a guy who sold me my Plixar power supply for my Weiss 204, said when he used his lumin u2 with his weiss 204 compared to his mola mola the mola mola was only slightly better, but when he got the Grimm mu1 and hooked up the weiss it made weiss sound more natural but he said the big audio shift was when he ran the mola mola with Grimm mu1.. his word were he was no longer listening to the equipment because the music just came alive. I feel you may not be hearing the true potential from the mola mola. Just good for thought
By the way, the Tambaque is a DSD Delta-Sigma DAC exclusively. It upsamples everything and converts it into DSD whether you feed it 44.1 PCM or a DSD source. So essentially it does what HQ player is doing for your other DAC internally.
The Mola Mola Tambaqui is also a preamp and a headphone amp. To use as a preamplifier you have to use their app. I apologize if you mentioned this and I missed it. I know you mentioned the app. Good review. This is my.end game dac til something is better for around this price.
Tambaqui is an amazing DAC. For the price it has, it can upsample, has Roon streamer built in, Lossless volume control and a great app. And this is on top of all the SQ performance. Built in streamer is equal or better than Auralic Aries g2.1 per a recent review. I feed it with Aurender N20
@@tango_gru I don't think so but maybe I can apply for a Job there. Would 'so I can get a employee discount on your gear' be a good line for my application?
Which filter and shaper was used? I find that it makes difference in sound of T+A a lot. I use sinc-M and ASDM7EC-super but this is on my system. In a month I'll be doing comparison of T+A with MPD-8 and APL, that should be really interesting to see if software conversion can compete with the hardware one implemented in those DACs.
Hi love your channel. I was just wondering about the speakers your use... is it possible to build them on your own as they are perhaps a bit out of the reach of most?
You stepped up your game with high end dacs 😅. I think the idea here is to find a dac that will deliver well but not with a high cost like these dacs. I think LiAV harmony dac should do it. What do you say?
I love your videos! I wish you would tell us how much these systems cost. I’m pretty sure the Mola Mola’s are quite a bit more expensive. Thanks for sharing
Interesting. I have a MM Tambaqui and a Playback Designs MPD-8. You described the sound of the MM as “big” yet compared to the MPD the MM sounds narrow and thin.
T+A has measurable IMD, problems with intersample overs, etc. The Tambaqui doesn’t have those issues and measures noticeably better. See Goldensound’s measurements of the DAC200 vs ASR or Stereophile’s measurements of the Tambaqui. I’m not saying the T+A sounds bad. I like their gear, but it’s objectively not on par in this category. I own a Tambaqui. I have a friend who owns a DCS Vivaldi and until recently, had the T+A also. Sometimes, DACs with distortion can be fun to listen to. I have a Sonic Frontiers SFD-1Mk2 R2R tube output DAC for those days. Similarly, if I want IMD, I’ll listen to LPs.
Yeah the PCM side. If you're buying this DAC you aren't using the PCM side - everyone knows including the creator of this video you buy this for DSD performance. Funny i'm hearing into the recording more and higher transparency with the DAC 200 even on a youtube clip over the Tambaqui. But hey - whatever you need to justify your purchase.
The Tambaqui sounds a bit more forward, but the T+A sounded more natural to my ears from this comparison. The T+A presented more natural sounding transients, IMO. Thanks for posting these comparisons.
Listening to the demo through my iPad Pro speakers, DAC B sounds better, more resolving, with a better sound stage. But the differences are slight. If I was in your listening room, I’m guessing the differences would sound more apparent.
Nice. The Mola Mola even a little bit more real on my headphones. But it is twice the price. As for now they are the best on this channel. But I miss the AAdac and Baltic 4 and Meitner MA3 on this comparison which are probably also the best 🤔
I would 💖to hear comparison between Mola and dCS LINA { the two titans}. There aren't many good videos with Lina, not mentioning comparison one! I recently auditioned Lina with the master clock and I was EXTREMALY impressed!!! I loved it to the point that now I can't stop thinking about buying it.😄
A is more open and extended. B bass is greater. I have both dac and prefer DAC200 Bezier 1 mode over MolaMola. Have you compared DAC200 upsampling mode? Mola mola is more digital sounding.
For me, top end of Mola Mola sounded smoother and less sibilant, mids have more texture. Double the price though. I recommend to try 3,000 Euro Teac UD-701N in the next test, it features a custom dac trickled down from the very expensive Esoteric dac line.
Like your content and especially the quality recordings you do 👍👍- however - pretty sure you have a one channel phase inversion somewhere in your recording setup...😱
Doesn't seem right to make an assessment through UA-cam and phone or PC audio. I've never heard the T+A but my Tambaqui paired with the Enleum AMP-23R or a tube amplifier is absolutely UNREAL. Also, the Tambaqui's apodizing filter response is such an amazing approach; everything sounds so natural and relaxed. From a technical standpoint, the Mola Mola definitely is a good margin ahead of the T+A.
First track the difference was very obvious. A was slightly brighter and more forward, B had some more upper bass volume. Track two was nearly indistinguishable for me. On the blues track, B made the rhythm guitar sound a bit more like a real guitar and not "a guitar coming out of a very good speaker". The other tracks were really close. I guess the brightness from DAC A makes it sound more analytic. Funny enough, this is like the experience I have with my Stax headphones. My standard Lambda is brighter and more analytic, my Signatures are warmer and overall sound better to me. I like both and it really depends on the material which one I'd rather put on. I can only guess B was the Tambaqui because that is said to have a warmer, more natural sound. I would probably prefer B just a bit over A similiar to what I said about my Staxes. Edit: Ha, got it right! :)
I mostly agree with your comments except that I didn’t find the first track obvious- oh wait that’s because I skipped the first track because I don’t like that song🤣🤣 So I guess I totally agree - I preferred listening to the mola mola. I almost never like a product that people describe as being bright or analytical. But this fight was nearly 50-50 in my mind. But I’m never buying a DAC for 13,000. I’ll probably just get the LAiV harmony. I liked it. 2700 much more reasonable.
I preferred the T+A. I guess I focus on vocals more and more analogy sound. The T+A won for me. My goal would be to find a cheaper DAC that could pass the WAF test and sound as close to these DAC as possible. Maybe I will buy the wife a new car then get my hi end audio gear the same day. What could go wrong. I can hear it now. Budget gear here I come.
Sure 😁 It's a print of a painting by Polish artist Witkacy. There my favorite clothing brand in Poland and they do prints of some famous painters, sketchers, tattoo artists etc and I buy all my tshirts there wearmedicine.com/k/on/odziez/t-shirty
DAC A is better to my ears without question. B sounds slightly muddy by comparison. I am really surprised by this as reviewers have been practically orgasming over the Tambaqui. The T+A sounds clearly better to me. Mind you I'm using Sennheiser HD650 headphones so might be slighty coloring the sound but even so.... Are you sure the setup between the two was correct? Its just surprising to me that the T+A sounded so obviously better, more incisive and clear in the midrange? I mean can so many reviewers be bullshitting?
A is way better on my MAC with some decent IEMs. i hear way more instument decay, more transient attack and detail. It does sound a little "brighter" but my IEMs are a bright.
Easy test. First track. I do not like A, sounds "digital". B sounds more natural, credible. Third track. Same Fourth. Same Fith: A agggg, strident. Guitarr much better with B. DAC A has more dynamics and soundstage but irreal

Thank you for great review. I very enjoy MOLA MOLA TAMBAQUI.
Do you have any plans to review some budget DAC?
how do these DAC compare to the LAIV Harmony DAC?
Holo audio spring 3 KTE my. Tested with LaiV I still prefer Spring 3
Loved the DAC A.
I preferred DAC / Sound B over A. I vote for Mola Mola Tambaqui, also a name for South American fish Pacu.
Preferred the T+A, it felt more effortless and the Mola Mola is from my home town (as is Hypex)
Can they give you home town discount ?

Much appreciated, it woulf be awesome some sampling between Wandla and Tambaqui :)
DAC B sounds so much more relaxed to me especially in the upper end, which I much prefer.
Totally agree. Dac A in the recording was leaner and very bright
I also preferred DAC B but only by a hair- I could barely tell the difference
B: The MOLA MOLA TAMBAQUI. Yes please 🙂 Thanks for you great videos...
Hi love your channel. I was just wondering about the speakers your use... is it possible to build them on your own as they are perhaps a bit out of the reach of most?
Over yt both have good points but I might have chosen mola mola. But I think this needs and in my own system listening

I like both. B seems to sound more euphonic. The soundstage of B is more wide.
Great comparison as always. How do they compare to weiss 204?
Interesting. I have a MM Tambaqui and a Playback Designs MPD-8. You described the sound of the MM as “big” yet compared to the MPD the MM sounds narrow and thin.

In general I preferred DAC A slightly more for better top-end clarity, definition and reverb.
The Tambaqui sounds a bit more forward, but the T+A sounded more natural to my ears from this comparison. The T+A presented more natural sounding transients, IMO. Thanks for posting these comparisons.
Opposite for me. The T+A was brighter and more forward, but also possibly more fatiguing in the long run.
Listening to the demo through my iPad Pro speakers, DAC B sounds better, more resolving, with a better sound stage. But the differences are slight. If I was in your listening room, I’m guessing the differences would sound more apparent.
Love your channel because of the comparisons and soundclips. Any chance that you will review the Holo Audio Cyan DAC 2? I am very curious.
I preferred the T+A but both DACs are excellent.
I’d like to hear a comparison of the mola mola, T+A and Weiss 204?
the one of t+A vs Weiss vs Laiv is coming soon ;)
Mola mola or Gustard x30 ? What do you like better
Veeeeery close! But I have preferred B - Mola Mola buy a hair more
A had cleaner highs yet richer tone, but B was very close. Both exceptional. What computer are you using for HQP to enable DSD 512?

Smashing reviews, Did you tru the APL HIFI DSD-AR?
First class sound quality with both DACs.
I can not hear the diference btw.
How does the molamola compare to chord Dave(with mscaler or hqplayer),thanks
The only person I know who has heard both prefers the Tambaqui still. Also Dave+MScaler is 2-3 times the price.

My favorite to, BEZ1🎉
Interesting, most people (including me, and confirmed by this video) think the Tambaqui sounds more analog. Which is part of its fame.
@@magicmulder T+A has different upsampling modes, and by toggling the mode; it sounds analogue similar to Tambaqui but with larger soundstage.
