      Thanks for the excellent review style. Question: Can you test/comment on running the V3 Mono as a designated sub amp? I have the ZA3 already, and have been planning a 2.1 portable system. Was going to use ZA3 in mono to run the sub 2 ohm 12 inch in a ported box. Now I think I can use the ZA3 for tops with Sparkos and Muse2 in V3 for the sub. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

    This is the review I was hoping for. Thank you for taking all these steps and providing such clarity on these little guys. Totally agree with your sound signature preferences btw.

      the monos still got the most technicality for me, so I think you're a ok, just tailor the sound with cables,source etc. to your liking, the surprising thing tho is how good is the v3 stereo is ( amp A ).

    Great video as always, thank you👍My finger was hovering over the Kickstarter button for the V3 mono, but after this review i dont see the need to part with with my dual mono ZA3s wirh Sparkos. I like the versatility of the ZA3 more, and i didn't think the sound of the V3 Mono was an improvement tbh. That and the need for two opamps per unit, the changeover is a bit too expensive

    Awesome work, and thanks for the effort you're putting into this and for the descriptions. Hopefully one day I will be able to move to a space thst alllows me to fit a set of your gorgeous speakers. I bought the V3 monoblocks and considering your comments regarding the sound signature of the Sparkos, would then perhaps be Staccato an interesting fit for the V3s? I can't remember if you ever tested Staccato with the ZA3. Thanks in advance!

Can you tell me how the resolution and bass response of mono compares the kinki studio M1+, you may not have the amp any more but which one gave you more “impressive” factor in the sound and performance. Money aside. Many thanks

    Great vidi. In my rig I can change DAC opamps, I usually use the sparkos somewhere and mix balance with Muses02 or Muses 01. These days I tend to prefer the Muses 01 over the 02. The Muses 01 is in the direction of the Sparkos but less intense, less driven. Cheers.

    Excellent review with very useful audio illustrations. I could tell the higher degree of brightness of the V3 Monos with Sparkos op amps. I was wondering whether V3 Monos with Muses02 was much brighter than A07 Max. I have two A07 Max with Muses02 in Mono, and they sound great. A bit on the dark side, which I like, but I could use a bit more detail and soundstage.

    Congratulations and thank you for all the fantastic work you do. You make the best videos on the subject, the most "objective" for my taste (although without digital measurements ;-)).
    I have the muses01 at home on an A07 48v and I prefer them to the ss3602.
    In dual-mono, some put the OP only on the used channel and nothing on the unused one, arguing that this concentrates the signal better.
    What do you think?
    For my next upgrade, I'm considering upgrading to the GUSTARD R26 and dual mono; probably the V3.
    Best regards 🙏🏻👍🏻😉

    The Naim was awesome but the Canor was next level superb. The Fosi was masked in comparison (to my old ears) listening with my open back planars. I have a 150 wpc a/b amp for my MTMs and bought the V3 Mono amps for my quad 15" woofers.

  • @jukingeo
    @jukingeo 2 місяці тому +6

    This was definitely interesting and I mainly dropped in when I saw you were comparing a $5k and $9 amplifier to one that that cost less than $200. While I do have a decent computer sound system comprised of Cambridge Soundworks speakers, I am sure this doesn't compare to being in person. But I wanted to see if I can hear any glaring differences between the op-amp rolling within the Fosi amplifiers and (even more so) how the Fosi amplifiers compare to much more expensive amplifiers. Now, I will open by saying that I barely noticed any differences between the op amps. Perhaps it is something that I have to try on my own. Moving to the comparisons with the more expensive amplifiers, I picked amplifier "B", the Naim Supernait3 as my favorite. Amp "C" actually sounded a bit "duller" to me. However, I was shocked overall that the Fosi V3 Mono blocks were not far off in terms of sound quality. Granted, I KNOW my system does have it's limitations, but at $5000 and $9000 on the two high end amps, I was expecting much more. Even on my system, I figured I would ear a VERY noticeable difference. That being said, this experience did reinforce my thoughts on high end, high priced audio and I come to the conclusion that it isn't worth the price. You are FAR better off with the Fosi amplifiers on a decent set of speakers and saving that $5000 or $9000 for something else. As it is, I feel that would be the cost for a whole system respectively. It is a fact that the higher you go in price, the less the improvements will be. It is the Law of Diminishing Returns. I am sure the builders of those high end amplifiers, it probably cost them about $1000 and $1500 to make them, and everything else is just markup for the middle man and the troll manufacturers that built them. In the end, you only get something that is marginally better than something that cost 10 times (or even more) less. I have found that the realm of hi-end audio is a realm where it increasingly is the case where YOU DO NOT get what you pay for. In many cases, you overpay. This is especially true with speakers. I had recently seen a video, where a fellow pulls out a cheesy crossover worth no more than $50 out of a $6000 speaker. The side walls weren't braced either. I come to the realization that I DON'T need to spend more than $5k or even $3k on a decent sound system. When I see prices of $100k or more on speakers at these high end trade shows, I just shake my head. The profit margin on something like that is enormous. All it is is a troll manufacturer trying to "steal" as much money from the consumer as they can get. So you know where they can stick that 100k speaker, right? Yes, right up where the sun don't shine! The proof is right here. You can get a decent amplifier for less than $200 and it will do the job nicely. Great video! I enjoyed this very much!

    Looks and sounds good. Some reviewers have said that when using a splitter there was noise in the speaker. As the V3 mono's have a small enclosure, I would be afraid of over heating over time.

    I have the monos on order and they arrive soon. I specifically asked Fosi prior to choosing which kickstarter option to choose - they confirmed there is NO sonic benefit from running the monos using 2x 10A power supplies compared to using 2x 5A power supplies. I therefore chose the smaller power bricks as they are physically easier to get out of the way.
    The larger 10A power supply is intended for running 2x monos from one power brick, there's no other benefit.
    Nice vid btw!

    I preferred Amp B with muse02 in the first sample over the slighter hotter Amp A, with C in last place. Midway, I preferred Amp C which was the Canor amp as it just sounded, right and not exaggerated, compared to the others. The last samples were close with the Sparkos op amps just being a little bit hotter. I know YT really damages audio by using extremely low lossy audio bit rates but that was my impressions. Tough to know how a Class D amp will react with a speaker with certain impedance variances, as most Class D's tend to have a hard time playing linear output with music playing on reactive loads. Great Job as I know these sound tests are very time consuming and your efforts were excellent! Bravo !!!

    I like this video very much! Thank you!
    Listening with my ikko OH1 and qudelix 5k (custom EQ) I completely agree with your op-amp evaluation. I could hear from the first track that C was not my favorite. A and B were hard to distinguish, but I thought B was an ever so slight improvement. Authentic treble and a slightly 'wetter' or fuller overall presentation. The stock op-amps smear the treble, and the music feels flatter to me.

    Super interesting and I always appreciate your reviews and comparisons so THANK YOU! What I found most interesting is the V3 Monos vs Naim vs Conor. Listening again an again to Wood & Skin, each time focusing in on a different piece or pieces of the drum kit, I found the Nait to be more real. That is to say that I really feel the hi-hat and get a sense of the travel of the cymbals of the hi-hat before they clap together... feels real, I can "see" the hi-hat! Same with the multiple drums that are Not the snare, I get a sense of the physical volume of each drum and the resonance of the wood... seeing them... fascinating! Again, it feels real. Lastly with the snare drum, I hear very LITTLE difference between the amps. I think it's because the snare is skin, spring and mettle, and I think it levels the playing field between the differences of the class of amps. I've never read a clear explanation of what creates PRAT (pace, rhythm and timing), but I think that has something to do with what I'm hearing (and seeing!) as Naim is known for PRAT above everything else from what I know. It's too bad I can't see affording a Naim anytime soon.

    I picked the Fozi v3 mono in all tests. The original V3 was close. For some samples I prefered muses others sparkos depending on frequency content. Muses for low end drums, sparkos high end female voice. The best comparison reviews on youtube with proper equipment. Thanks for your efforts. It would be interesting if you mixed muses with sparkos in the V3 mono, the combined qualities of both would be close to perfection. Would they compliment each other or the opposite?

    • @gabrielgarza863
      @gabrielgarza863 5 днів тому

      Depending on your budget. You could do Douk Audio T8 Pro. Has tubes that you can roll, op amps that you can also swap out. If you are looking for something more higher end. Schiit Audio Kara or Freya +. Or if you want a DAC/Preamp, SMSL has some nice ones. I recommend going with something that has XLR. The V3 Monos sound cleaner and perform better with XLR. If you do RCA, the V3 mono utilizes an op amp to change it to balanced, which I would recommend swapping that out to a opa1612 or opa1656.

      Yes that is entire point of it the TPA3255 is amazing chip and it can compete with really big boys I had those amps against true giants and well it was either or depending on the preferences. So going for that silly chip amp allows to invest money elsewhere like for example stunning DAC ;)

    Interesting. I have doubts now. At first i was determined to go for 2x Fosi Audio V3 mono amps. Mainly because of the small size, not needing/wanting a volumecontrol and auto setting. Plan was to get those and pair them with the upcoming Wiim Ultra as a pre amp/streamer and perhaps adding a SMSL SU-1 external dac (if needed). Currently i have a Fosi Audio ZA3 (on test) together with a Wiim Mini and a SMSL SU-1 dac. My speakers are Dali Ikon 1 mk1. Im coming from a NAD C700 but this setup comes (very) close.
    To be honest i find this setup (with the ZA3) to sound very good and have doubts about getting 2x Fosi Audio V3 mono amps. Will it sound better then the ZA3? I also read the V3 monos get kind of (real) hot. The ZA3 does not get hot, only a little bit warm at most. Maybe adding a second ZA3 and run them both in mono mode and pair them with the Wiim Ultra also sounds like a good option for me. I'm keeping the SMSL SU-1 anyhow just in case i want to add it if i'm not satisfied about the sound that the Wiim Ultra and Fosi Audio amps give.
    What would you (guys) advise?

    Thanks for this, though I often believe that such sound comparisons are only as good as the equipment I am using to listen to it. I am, for example, not inclined to think my Thinkpad P51 has the dac or output that is adequate. I think I would need to be in the room to "get it." Saying that, 5 years ago, I would have scoffed at the idea of 2 monoblocks, 100 watts each (8 ohms), with XLR and the performance shown at ASR costing $220. If you go to ASR, check out the amps this competes with. Absolutely bonkers. That hi-fi can be this good for that price is stunning. In fact, those hearing defects, I would bet, are hearing weaknesses in their source material, their speakers, or their chain at this point. Mindblowing, really.

    Strangely I tended to prefer the stock op amp and then the Muses and Sparkos last. Don't know what was going on there... lost in translation? (oh well, forget that, my ears were clogged from the stupid covid.)On the second comparison left and right channel were switched on the Naim (or on the two other ones) I was torn between the Fosi and the Canor. Naim was really the least one.
    On the third test I think the three mono ones were great, but this time somehow preferred the V3 mono with sparkos. (but I cheated there). You still try to improve the power supplies using a fancy power cable instead of the supplied ones.

Do I need to change the XLR op amp on the circuit board as well for optimum sound quality ? Needing six op amps in total. Or can I leave the standard one from Fosi ? What would be the best for optimum sound quality ? Does changing the XLR op amp impact the sound quality ? Thank you. I love your videos. You are the reason I decided to get these monos.

    • @breathofawareness7903
      @breathofawareness7903 День тому

      I found the answer. I went to Fosi's website they have chat bot where you can ask commonly asked questions. When you ask how many op amps you need here is the answer they give: " The V3 Mono's mainboard houses a total of three op-amps. One is located near the RCA input and is used to convert the RCA signal into a balanced signal. The other two are situated close to the amplifier chip, you can replace just one of the two, if you were to replace both op-amps, the adjustment would be even more pronounced. " So I guess I just need the two (4 in total) since I will not be using the RCA input.

    Thanks, you are one of the only that gives demo sounds comparing new V3 monos with older Fosi.
    Guys, Isn't Amp B, C and D too harsh for any of you?
    The Sparkos Op amps and the new power the Mono's bring opens everything up ~ but for me it's like it blows the roof off the house, there are no limit to the high frequencies and it reveals the brittleness and distortions. I don't enjoy the raspy sounds of the hissing and H or Ssss sounds of the female vocals, I don't think many do. IF i had to just go off this video's demo i would go for Amp A for the more relaxed top end OR pair with less revealing speakers. But even Amp A at louder volumes is not relaxed for me.

    FYI I just realized that Fosi V3 Mono is the only one with balanced internal design, but this means it uses the third op-amp by input to convert RCA inputs to balanced. Fosi ZA3 is not balanced internally, so the third op-amp is used only when XLR input is used. So if one has non-balanced system, it may be better to go with unbalanced amp.

Possibly transform a normal/average sounding 10-30 year old integrated amp to another sonic level. How about the V3 or Za3 with the Maggie’s LRS?

      I have a pair of the LRS+, and the first amp I threw at them was the ZA3. The little Fosi did not even break a sweat, and drove them to clean clear and uncomfortable levels without distortion. My lone ZA3 has the Sparko op amps installed. It sounded very good, very detailed with pleasant highs, solid bass and pleasant mid-range, using my PS Audio Stellar Gaincell DAC/Preamp. The only thing missing was the 3D sound. The ZA3 was 2D, like every Class D amp I have had through here. But, it worked flawlessly with the Maggies and sounded darn good doing it.

      @@michaelwright1602 thank you very much for the response… I truly appreciate it. I too the have Maggie’s LRS and know how difficult they are to drive. Guessing I will try out the the V3s with the LRS once they come out along with the Sparko OP amps.

      @@user-nc8dc9ie4x I want to try those V3 monos too. What I did do, was to break out my old first generation 800 pound Emotiva XPA-2 amp to power the Maggies. Now, I have that 3 dimensional room filling sound. Have you looked at the Schiit Vidar amps? I think I am going to pick one up here in the near future, they can be had used for between $400 and $500 on US AudioMart if you are patient. This seems to be the most popular Class A/B amp to pair with these LRS and LRS+ speakers. If it does not sound to your liking, they are easy to flip. If one works for me, I will pick up a second and go mono with those.

      @@michaelwright1602 out of curiosity… how hot does the unit get… I ask because z reviews reviewed the new V3s and stated they were smoking hot

      @@user-nc8dc9ie4x Honestly, after two hours of comfortable listening, it was just slightly warm driving the Maggies. Not hot, just warm enough to let you know it was working. That really impressed me, I thought it would be pretty hot, not even close.
