People of Celebration and Waiting | Isaiah 64:1-2

- In this first episode reflecting on the themes of Advent, Prof. N.T. Wright asks what the Jews of Jesus's day were anticipating, and how Jesus both fit and didn't fit their expectations. Old Testament passages like Isaiah 64 betray a desperation on the part of the authors for God to return and make things right. That desperation was not lost on God, who sent Jesus in answer. How can we today live into the call to celebrate Jesus's coming, while also awaiting and anticipating his eventual return when God will make all things right?
PEOPLE OF PROMISE
People of Promise: Reflecting the Rhythms of Advent examines Old Testament passages that showcase how God kept the promises made to Israel, challenging us to rethink these promises with Jesus at their center.
People of Promise video devotionals arrive every Monday through the liturgical seasons of Lent, Eastertide, and Advent. Make sure you like the video and subscribe to our channel so you never miss a single one.

Thank you that not only increased my understanding of the meaning of Advent but added joy to the longing I have for his coming.
We're so glad the Advent reflection brought joy to your longing for His coming-may you have a season filled with warmth and anticipation!
Your message offers hope of a future to come, thank you for reminding me that while we live here and now, it is indeed sometime in the future (tonight? next year?) that Jesus will make things right again. For God is faithful, He has shown us over and over how faithful He is although sometimes in ways a bit different than we may expect!❤
Your reflections beautifully remind us of God's faithful promises, reassuring us that he will put the world right at last. We live now in light of that future hope. Thank you for sharing your heartfelt thoughts
Oh how I love this message. God's character became focused to crystalline clarity in Jesus.
These short samples are like a taste of something you must have more of ..great stuff and absolutely good soul food. Thank God for it!! Oh and you too N.T. Wright 🙏🙏😊☕️🍰
A beautiful teaching....I've not thought about the Second Coming of Jesus as part of the Advent Season. This focus gives me new hope given all that is happening in the world today.
We are grateful for the hope of his coming and the strength it gives us to persevere. Thank you for sharing your encouragement.
This is such an important thought and thank you, and Reverend Wright, for making it clear. My heart longs and longs for His coming…to know as we are fully known.
Thank you as always, prof. Wright, for your insights. Much appreciation. From South Africa
Thank you so much for taking the time and making the effort to do these short, yet significant, video series that are easily understood yet carry great theological impact. I enjoyed the salvation series and look forward to now going through advent as well.
We're grateful you've found it beneficial! We appreciate the positive feedback.
Dearest one, you again educate & illuminate me. Thank you so very much 🙏🏻🕊🩵
This post is so awesome. You help me put things right.
Thank you.
Really appreciate this - will be sharing it with others as we begin the advent season. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Tom, it looks like you were reading from the original Isaiah scroll in this video.😂 Thank you for your teaching!
Is it possible that the promise of the 2nd Coming might happen in a way we aren't expecting? Such as the Lord's ministry, passion, abd resurrection was not the Messianic mission expected by our Israelite fathers...
I wonder along ... HE is SIMPLY CONFOUNDING in His ways
Essa imagem o NT Wright tá parecendo o papai Noel kkk
Amen
