- www.BMWsaleSite... Put the circuit board (electronics) of my 523i Key into a new blank Key as the buttons are worn, also replacing the battery
is there a way to reset the key? I took it apart the other day to see why the lock button wasn't working, but I pressed the bubbles on the circuit by accident and then read the part on the cover about not touching anything and replacing the battery within a minute
@Paul Reynolds ah okay mate, what process do i need to do if i did it this way
Just a question, can I not move the internal board and metal key section over to a new key i.e. remove the blank cut from the new one and replace with the original? Would save on getting a new one cut again if not needed. Personally I just need to replace the rubber - but a newer casing would be good if poss.
Hi, the metal key section is mouled into the plastic and so would no be easy to move.
Paul Reynolds Had a feeling that was the case. Thanks mate :)
is it better to get the key cut before you switch everything over..or does that even matter?
Have you thought of just replacing the worn out buttons? Cutting new key at dealer is not cheap. Besides, you could get the button replacement alone from fleebay for around $5 shipped. Cheers.
is it possible just to switch around the rubber button parts instead of getting a new key, as the key is fine its just the rubbers have worn down and now doesnt let me lock the car that quick have to play with button
@TablaWalaKC it was cheaper to buy the hole key than the buttons alone, plus I only had the one key.
If one should decide to replace CR2016 Lithium 3V by CR2032, make sure the metal connecting strip at the side of the battery hole, is bend a bit further before the new battery is placed. Otherwise it may not reach the side of bigger battery properly.
These keys wear due to having to push too hard when the battery becomes weaker over time. People should know replacement is easy done inside 20 or 60 seconds. Tip: use one rubber glove, to prevent unnecessary charge leaking to body.
I'm looking for the plastic cover for circuit board for a 1998 528i key (E39). This is the one that Paul is replacing in the vid at 3:25.
Any help would be appreciated.
@enolucky107
The chip is the small unit that goes in under the circuit board
I just bought one from eBay today cause of this video. Will watch and follow instruction on how to put the casing on when it arrives. I don't want to pay $300 for a new key. Thanks for making this video. (BMW 323i 1999)
@bigplanner Thanks, Any good key cutting place should be able to do it.
Good video. Is the BMW dealer the only place where i can get the new key cut?
So now the dealership has to cut your key right
It doesn't look possible as the rubber is bonded to the part with the key
Did this work for you? Did you encounter any problems?!
Can someone tell me how to order the replacement key. The site attached to this video is a bit complicated.
it doesn't matter
