Dude welcome back! Been an extra hot minute. I sold my '21 VA WRX when used car prices were still crazy and got $2500 more than I paid for it. Rolled into a '23 Premium VB WRX manual and love it as my daily. I have had the EJ205, EJ257, FA20, and now FA24 and the FA24 is my favorite engine by far. The VB WRX is really the grown-up WRX. They can't make a WRX for $20-$25K anymore so this just makes sense and 40+ year-olds like me who started with an '05 WRX can afford to pay $30K+ for a VB. But, I am sticking with the manual and I drive in traffic 3 days a week. I love it even in bumper-to-bumper traffic as keeps me more engaged.
Just bought one, thank you! This review answered a lot of questions about the transmission as the closest GT was a plane ride away so I could only test a lower trim.
As a 34 year old with kids, I appreciate that the gt wrx exists. I had a 2019 wrx with the manual and it was lots of fun. My knees hurt too bad now to want to daily a manual, so having the option of an auto is nice. When I decide on my next car, this one is at the top of my list.
I got a 2019 cvt because of your videos love the content you put out, even upgraded my speakers. Do what you need to do but happy to see you posting again!
Good to hear things are going good for ya! Your videos on the previous gen wrxs helped me out so many times. Can't wait to see new the content and what you do with your new rex!
I’m so glad you’re doing ok! I was wondering when and your whereabouts since retiring from the military! Thank you for your service and enjoy the ride brother!
I like your camera setup, cockpit, frontview, first person, etc. I must say that type of transmission makes the car fly in the highway, and gives better fuel economy, vs geared/clutch drivetrain. Good job and welcome back. I am more of a DSG (Audi/VW) driver. *I would paint black the silver trim around the exhaust tips, imo, it is too pronounced.
Congratulations on your new Car, I hope it serves you well and you enjoy it. So glad they installed a transmission cooler with the CVT. I have a 2018 Forester XT , I have a 10 year warranty on the CVT going to 2027, I enjoy the vehicle, great all wheel drive in the winters.

@@ValFinaleThe boxer engine has its strength but Subaru by far the worse of all the Japan automakers when its comes to MPG gas usage efficiency . Give the GT STI brakes and make it hybrid too
I agree with your perspective on the car, I had a 2016 with a cvt and hated it so much that I traded it in after 30k miles for a manual 2015 limited trim and I was happy with that for 85k miles until I got bored of driving it around southeast Florida, there’s not many fun backroads to drive on there.
Great video! looking forward to seeing more content on the cvt , Especially maintaining the cvt & change the cvt transmission fluid. I cant find any videos or info on changing the cvt fluid.
Great car. Nice color. I would take the auto too. I had a fully built 2002 hatchback, at one point making 374HP and similar torque. It was a huge pain to drive around LA w the 5 speed and clutching it all the time. Burning out the clutch and also my legs and butt had all sorts of pain at times. Sure it was fun on open roads and in the mtns, but full time proved clearly to me that I will never do that again in a city. Now I am back in NY and dip into the city.
Welcome back - enjoy your UA-cam.... This version of the car is not available in Australia YET.... Top of the line is 50th anniversary Lineartronic ... Currently own a 2017 VA Premium and a few mods .. love it to death ... not sure spending A$58k plus is warranted ..??. 🤷♂
Not a fan of the styling like many people. Still I wave to the VB and they wave back to me which is nice. I think in orange and blue they look the best. Black also looks fantastic. Could care less about the plastic cladding, it's those mousey-looking headlights that I really don't like. How many miles did you put on your previous CVT? I would like to keep mine for as long as possible, past 100,000 miles. I'm not in the facebook group so any reassurance these things last would make me feel a lot better. For the record I wanted a manual but needed to be more practical. So I drive it like I wanted a manual but needed to be more practical...
Do you still have your STI? I bought a brand new 22 GT last year that got totalled a day after I purchased it. I loved that car for the super brief time I had it. The driver modes and Recaro seats were incredible. I ended up in a 17 CVT WRX to save some money and just recently picked up a 21 STI. Your content has been super helpful, especially when it came to CVT specific stuff. Hope to see you make more content soon!

I got rid of my 21 STI also. I was offered $6500 more than what I paid for it so that was a big motivator. Bought the wife an Ascent and I must say, I am pleasantly surprised how much I like driving the CVT.
Yeah same here, can't pass up a trade in for MORE than what I paid for it new. I must say though I miss it a lot. Not to take from this car which is really a blast.
Good to see you back! I am a bit getting fed up with how finicky my fa20 is so seriously considering new wrx. Will watch out for your videos. Off topic question. What is the holder- arm that you are using attached to headrest of passenger seat? It looks very stable. Thanks!
Interestingly, I've still kept my '18 WRX CVT... but went the path of mods with it, so I'm kinda curious how well it's modded form compares to the modern WRX.
I owned the MT first year VB, own a 2020 STI now. Audio was amazing, drive was comfy but floaty especially on highways. I didn't like the driving position, I'm only 5'5" and had the seat in the lowest position, but still felt like I was sitting on the car rather than in (especially compared to VA STI). The global platform is quite noticeable unfortunately. Otherwise, the immediate low end torque is nice and great for daily experience.
I see, I don't have an issue with suspension but yeah this one has the adjustable dampers so that might be the difference there. The new TRs suspension is supposed be tuned better.
@@akqjtn I had the Canadian MT top trim, didn't come with dampering/Recaro seats, but had HK audio at least. Those were GT features (I think it's the same for the US). The other main complaint is the terrible infotainment, if you think it's sluggish now try using it in -30C weather... takes 10 seconds to adjust heated seats/climate in general because it's so slow to respond to touches. I do miss seeing oil/water temps without needing an AP though.
@awintrysky That is hands down my least favorite thing about the car, that the infotainment system has the drive modes and climate control are tied into it. My hope is that a solution is developed to be able to replace it without losing any functionality. Get on it idatalink!
Question; Where did you get your seat phone mount? link, please? Thank you.. PS: I have been thinking of either a GT or an Outback Wilderness, with the same engine/transmission combo.
GT owner here. I can't wait until Subaru gets rid of the vertical tablet design. Just go with how everyone else is doing it with a wide tablet up top for car play / android auto and leave the bottom half for real buttons for climate control. The manual guys will always hate on us but I'm 100% positive it's because they haven't tried Sport+ mode. The thing is though, if you spend a bit more money you could get a Golf R DCT which completely smokes this car as we already lose to a GTI DCT lol.
Dude, I love your reviews. I have the 23 Prius and I want to switch to this or the limited. What do you think about the highway MPG? I commute 80 miles each day right now. Prius gets 47mpg on regular gas.

Hey, retired, moved to FL and lost myself a bit along the way. All is good now thankfully. The STI, well that's a sore subject lol, but no, don't have it. My wife is driving a suburban (needed something bigger) these days so the Ascent is gone too.
