    You can buy a car with 400k highway miles in better conditions than one with 150-200k miles driven in the city !!

      True

      Have you bought one with 400k miles. I don't believe that without proof. 150k city on the other hand is generally Ok.

      @@anchalsharma Maybe in the US but in other countries like the UK its exceptionally rare to find a vehicle with 400k, because we are a small country and car is often end of life at 150k or before, in fact I've never seen or heard of a private car with anything like 400k miles here.

    Here in Denmark you have to take your car for technical inspection every second year.
    Besides checking out if the car is roadsafe, does not pollute more than it's allowed, rhe cars milage (here in kilometres) is recorded.
    It's all a public record and you can trace back every TI (technical inspection) to the point the car was made. You can see on average how many kilometers the car was driven on yearly basis and this alone makes it almost impossible to cheat on odometer.

      Same here in the UK although we have more stringent testing in the UK with an annual test. The history of a vehicle is now electronic and public so before making any purchase one can check the history and mileage recorded at each of these tests and see if it matches or aligns to the current displayed mileage.

      Same probably everywhere and this info is being exchanged between EU countries.

      @@melluzi I don't know if the UK shares data with the EU since we left the bloc. TBH I don't care if they share the status of my car, I mot and maintain my car.

      @@roasthunter UK data wouldn't make any sense anyway as the only use of LHD cars in EU is for spare parts. And vice versa probably.

      @@roasthunter in the UK there is no check for the first 3 years. This is when much odometer roll back happens. Especially with ex government vehicles who often service them themselves and sell to trade after 3 years.

    Idk but where i live its a common practice that you change everything liquid and belt when you buy a used car.

    • @TopicMotor
      @TopicMotor  2 місяці тому

      Same. But you still want to know how many miles the car will live. Approximately. I've seen cars with real 400,000 km but 200,000 km on odometer here in Ukraine. This is certainly a bad purchase.

      @@TopicMotor And it may have well lost those 200k km back in Germany before first imported used.
      Seats and wheel will look great on cars like Volvo, Lexus and some BMW even after 500k km if properly maintained.

    A lot of dealers or garages don't even log oil changes on car fax

    • @TopicMotor
      @TopicMotor  2 місяці тому

      Yes, garages won't do that. Dealers mostly register any maintenance while the vehicle is under warranty.

    I have a audi a3 did 10.000miles a year for 3 years. Then I started using my wife car as she stopped driving . Now my a3 has a mileage discrepancies because I only put about 3.000 miles a year it.
    What's that about?

    • @TopicMotor
      @TopicMotor  2 місяці тому

      But if your dealer/shop registers that mileage every year during oil change, that's totally fine. If the mileage isn't registered in any way, selling the car after several years may not be that easy. Dealers will suspect rollback.
