I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level. - Спорт
I have been pouring lead and plastic since 1975. Very satisfying part of my fishing. I have molds of several discontinued plastic baits that I still use today. Thanks for the vid!
That is awesome!
I tie my own flies for fly fishing. I got boxes of materials. It is very rewarding when you catch a fish on something you made yourself. I have caught huge steelhead trout on a couple flies I've made. Usually I get them on wooly buggers, clouser minnows and egg patterns.
Couldn't agree more!
I'm on the fence about giving my entire box of tackle minus the hair jigs& spinners and just keep to the basics
I’ve been tying flies, making jigs, and carving hard baits for about 35 years now since I was a kid. I recently got a 3D printer and it is a game-changer with the wide open possibilities of making just about anything at home. It is a fun and rewarding hobby in its own right, but you make a great point that there is just something about catching a quality fish on something you’ve made. Keep the good vids coming!
Awesome
I’m a bit of a tinkerer myself. I have primitive archery gear that I made and took deer with. I’ve been a fly-tier/fisherman for over 50yrs. I have always found it extremely satisfying to make and use my own gear. Now most of my tinkering is about finding ways to continue doing the things I enjoy😊
Good stuff!
You’re so right, I pour all my jigs. I started because the local tackle stores kept changing their tackle suppliers. I pour them and paint them in my 12 color powder coating system . It’s fun and a lot cheaper. Thank You
Right on
Started making jigs last year. Yes, it's really cool to catch a fish on a jig that you made yourself. Started doing spinnerbaits a few months ago.
Yep
I just started pouring plastic... with one mold and an old microwave... sole purpose to melt and recycle my old plastics. Maybe in long run save a few dollars, but at least keeps a little out of the landfill.
Sounds good!
I can honestly say that watching this channel has helped me catch fish. Thank you Matt your support team.
Glad to hear it!
1st step tie on hover rig. 2nd step put on 3.5 jerk shad. 3rd step thrown in current. 4th step lift off bottom and reel in a small mouth..
I couldn’t have said that better myself!
Cool video Matt! Thanks for sharing!
You bet!
That was a very intriguing video. And great information to have
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Matt
You bet
I started by tying trout flies. Now I paint cranks, tie jigs, spinners and buzzers.
Nice!
I’ve been creating my own jigs using fimo clay and molding it on the chosen hook in the design I’m going for. Then I use Alumilite two part silicone putty to create a two piece mold. There’s a lot of little tricks I’ve learned over the years but it allows me to make custom designs on the exact hook I want.
Very cool
I use POP to make my molds at home , even 2 part molds , a 360 degree full bait , no flat sides
Thanks for sharing
Most addictive hobby i have every done
Yep
Yes you are so right that's how I get most of my UA-cam
Sounds good
I’m okay with all of this man. Wish you guys much success with it!
Thanks
Been making inline spinners, spinner baits ans now chatter baits for years. Real satisfying to catch on home made baits.
Very cool
Marlin Baits has a course you can take on lure making- from what I understand it's a very good course if you want too hand carve wooden baits and paint them with an air brush. And there are several UA-cam channels dedicated to showing ppl how to pour plastics or use the Do-it molds to make jig heads- but I think Marlin covers that stuff as well. I think he has one of the best bait making channels on the internet- really good guy- exceptionally talented at what he does to.
I love his Channel
Great, Matt! 👌 Till now I'm only doing prototypes for myself ;-)
Sounds good
🍺Thanks for the information🤠.
You bet
I have been making my own in-line spinners for awhile now and they work great! We even trolled in Canada and we had a Mepps on one rod and one of mine on another and the Pike would hit mine a lot more than the Mepps! Don't get me wrong Mepps are amazing and I have my stash of these but there is something about what I am using that they like better. Just thought that I would share this with you and thanks for the encouragement!!
Very cool
I will leave it up to you, "the tackle tinkerer." 👍
Deal!
You need to start shooting plastics!! It is a great, great way to make custom colored baits. Check out World's Worst Fishing in this UA-cam thing!! Angling AI is the mold company and Dead On Plastics is the plastisol. There is something special about catching fish on plastics you created. Much like the reason you have been doing with other gear!!!!!
Thanks for watching
Awesome video i am just wondering why you have not tried doing anything with soft plastics?
Never done it
I cannot imagine how much I would spend if I did nor pour Neds, round heads, football jigs and tube heads!
It gets expensive
Will the toenail lure be available at Core Tackle? 😂
Haha
What about a TUSH Underspin in the future?
Looking into a few things
HIT THE LIKE BUTTON Y'all
Thanks for watching
think I just gonna wait for Core Tackle to make what I need and leave my lack of creativity out of process 😂😂😂
Haha
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks
Matt, I wanted to warn you and other lead pourers to be aware of the deadly fumes involved. I had a relative that did stained glass windows for churches for 40 years without ventilation and died prematurely of lung disease from the fumes.
Thanks for the reminder!
🤠👍
Thanks for watching
Its nice that you can make your own lures. But it looks like you have several thousand dollars worth of stuff from the store also. 😆
I can’t make everything
