In 2013-2017, Woodford reserve was considered "bottom shelf whiskey" and I bought a 750ml bottle every weekend for 14 bucks in washington state. In 2022, 750ml of Woodford reserve goes for nearly 50 bucks. Those were the days....
I️ don’t remember it being that cheap, I️ remember weller special reserve being in an ugly bottle and around 13 dollars a fifth and I️ drank that quite a bit
It’s really hard to determine for me, it’s hard to be biased with two great whiskeys in my opinion. The only reason I’d choose woodford in the end it the smooth drinkability and my pallet may be different but I draw a little bit more of that oak and vanilla flavor so that’s why I prefer it. But there ain’t nothing like the after taste of BT, and it’s so hard to find around where I live that you’ve gotta snatch it when you see it! Overall a great review and an honest one as well.
I bought a Buffalo Trace earlier this year and enjoy it. I just bought a gift box of regular Woodford with a rocks glass for a family pass around game. I’m hoping to walk away with it so I may try the bottle.
This would be a tough one as I like both. It might depend on what mood I am in on which one I would grab. WR is easier to find around here at this point.
I haven't had the just plain Woodford bourbon before, have only had the double oaked. Therefore I couldn't venture a guess. I have had Buffalo Trace and it is good.
When u nosing or testing the 1st one whisky then afterwards you have to drink some water & smell the coffee and then afterwards you can review the other one whisky. 👍
By first bourbon was bulliet and it was good I bought the Woodford and didn't like it and gave it away after drinking bulleit , today I bout a buffalo trace! To see what's app
I felt the opposite. Id buy BT if i couldn't get others because it is good reliable. Woodford be and a in state brewery have been my go to for a couple years now. Bodalen by far north spirits his that uniqueness i like. Higher alcohol and a nice warm burn that i like for some presence.
So I’m new at this bourbon thing and I’ve never done head to head like this. I’ve had Woodford in the past, liked it. Have had a fair amount of BT lately and really like it (though KC beats is). So it looks like I never need to think about Woodford again. That’s good. I like constraints.
Haha. I think a lot of people enjoy Woodford at first and they slowly realize that there is better out there for cheaper. Then unfortunately for our wallets we realize there is much better out there for a lot more money!
I love BT, it is much better than the regular cheaper bourbons, though getting bored. I also much prefer it to MM. What out of Knob Creek, Makers 46, Eagle Rare, Wild Turkey 101 or Bulleit (not tried any Rye yet) what would you recommend?
I like all four of those Bourbons! I think my top two out of that bunch would be Knob Creek and WT101. Eagle Rare is the same mash bill as Buffalo Trace so you will definitely enjoy it but since you are bored with the profile you may want to avoid it. Maker's 46 is really good too. Soooo much better than the standard Maker's. You can't go wrong with any of those. Cheers!
@@BlindWhiskeyReviews Thanks for the quick response! We can get a lot of good quality bourbon here in Scotland (mostly online) but in our local supermarkets it is mostly only the above. BT has been my old faithful though! :)
@Whisky Lassie Bought my first bottle of Bulleit recently and was really impressed. Found it a little more zesty, fresh, floral and spicy than the majority of Bourbons I have drank. Sainsbury's and Asda have it on offer sometimes, bought mine for £20, bargain.
Yesterday had both bottles for the first time, absolutely hated Woodford, had to finish it in a mix with Coke. Buffalo was quite drinkable neat, even tho 10 EUR cheaper. So far, since I haven't tried too many bourbons yet, I'd pick Maker's Mark (absolutely loved it) or WT101 over these any day.
@@BlindWhiskeyReviews I found a tool to make brackets online. It doesn't do consolation matches (ie: Maker's vs Four Roses for last place), but otherwise, I think I've got it right: brackethq.com/b/rlrc/
No surprises for me here again. I'm not really a fan of either of these so I could go either way. But I'll always reach for Buffalo trace and that juicy red apple that it has going on over woodford!
The problem with these tastings are that they are opinionated reviews not an objective statement, so no one can say whats better, it's everyone's individual opinion
100%. That is true of any review though right. It is always one persons opinion whether you are reviewing food, drink or a product. The key is to find someone whos taste aligns with yours and you are off to the races. Cheers!
Eagle Rare is the one that matches from Buffalo. Nothing between. Woodford more vanilla and Eagle Rare more Carmel. Buffalo Trace is a different idea. It's smooth. Easy. Low spice. Gentle. Cheap. Dare I say verging on mass market. Excellent but horses for courses.
Can't comment on the Woodford because I never drink it but you nailed the BT, Jon. I always find it really light on the nose but decent to drink. Store picks can be more interesting, though.
Yes I added the bottles in after the fact. I shot all of the videos for the shootout before I released (and edited) the first video. During the shootouts I had no clue what whiskeys I was drinking or what round I was in. Totally blind! Lots of fun. Cheers!
Buffalo Trace is cheap! But I personally don't think it tastes that way. Woodford for me always comes across thin. If it had a more full bodied mouth feel it would be a monster.
@@BlindWhiskeyReviews you know what they were some of the first I tried...I tried woodford again this past weekend after having stuff like rare breed and willet...I have to agree with you...it doesnt circle around well enough and does feel "thin," I will have to give BT another go

@@geraldnemeth7944 Just "which one is better", lol. It's like comparing two cars and go straight to which one is better. Here in Kentucky, it's around $30 for the 750ml
I’m in LA and the best price for that bottle of WR is going for $29.99

Woodford & Maker's Mark (R) truly my favourites. Will have to try BT soon though. 😝😜😋🤓👍
Definitely! For a budget pour it is good stuff. Spoiler alert!!!! if you watch the rest of the Distillery Wars series.....there are better!
Thought BT might take it, that's an old favorite, great job and be safe it's getting crazy outside, stay in with a nice warm bottle.
You too my friend. No need to venture out. Everything I need is right here at home.
I haven't had the just plain Woodford bourbon before, have only had the double oaked. Therefore I couldn't venture a guess. I have had Buffalo Trace and it is good.
Double Oaked is far superior to the standard Woodford. No real reason to go back to the standard in my opinion.
When u nosing or testing the 1st one whisky then afterwards you have to drink some water & smell the coffee and then afterwards you can review the other one whisky. 👍
That is one way to do it. I'm not a big coffee fan so that method is not for me.
@@BlindWhiskeyReviews good, every person has their own choice.
Recently got to try Woodford Reserve for the first time (free booze on a plane because of a delay). What have I been missing?!
There is so much good bourbon out there! The world is your oyster.
You been missing nothing Woodford thrash lol
@@joeyjuandiaz6195 When did you first drink it and what was its price?
which one is better for an old fashioned
Buffalo trace for sure. WR just doesnt have the power to stand up in a good old fashioned.
I don’t disagree with you often Jon, but I got to say, Woodford got robbed lol.Great shootout!
Haha can't win them all! For me Woodford did about how I expected. We will see what place it finishes in. Cheers!
WR is the default bourbon for a major airline. BT is the default for another.

I love both, especially BT
After tasting WR for the first time today, I'd be curious to try the BT. WR left me unimpressed to be honest.
WR is a decent bourbon for a beginner but I find it a bit thin and light on flavor. Much better available out there for less $ IMO. Cheers!

BT is 80 proof in Ireland I wonder would this affect its flavor??
I can't imagine it helps. Probably the opposite. I wish they wouldn't do that.
Same here in UK. I tried it once, and I preferred Woodford by a long margin. Never buying diluted BT again.
Buy the 1l bottle, it's 45 % in Europe

prefer Woodford as an everyday bourbon
Makers Mark and Woodford are my least favorite of all of these so I would say you are nailing it!
Thanks! I wish Four Roses and Woodford would have matched up. I think Four Roses would have come in 6th if they had.
I’m a beginner and so far my favorite bourbons are wild turkey 80 proof and four roses small batch 90 proof.
I’ll take the Woodfords thank you, it’s always available in this area. Buffalo Trace, not so much.
RIP Woodford
Woodford performed admirably but just couldn't keep up with the pack. Better luck next time!

Not a fan of Woodford. Kind of basic. Now Buffalo Trace on the other hand is gooooood.
BT kills WR considering its also 10 dollars less in my state. Buffalo needs a label upgrade tho, that bottle looks like trash.
