Auburns defense was so ridiculously good that year, plus the two best RBs in football, a great QB, and 3 great WRs. There was no way in hell Oklahoma or USC was coming close to beating Auburn in a national title game that year. They were absolutely robbed.
I wouldn’t say “no way in hell”. USC was absolutely LEGIT. They were not a fraud. Oklahoma….ehhh! Auburn beats them handily. Yes, AU most likely belonged in the Title game. Would they have beaten the Trojans? I’m not sure.
@@joshuapaulgibson Oh what should have been, Auburn vs. USC in the national championship most likely would have been one of the greatest games in college football history.
I remember listening to ESPN at the end of this season after the SEC Championship game. Whoever was talking in the broadcast said that USC vs Oklahoma is the game that “America wants to see” not Auburn USC. Of course that’s how it played out. That was my first introduction to how big money really controls everything and not who truly deserves it.
6:50 I know it didn’t show Bama’s series, but if I remember correctly, Bama did not throw the ball on this possession, conceding that they would throw a pick. Alabama should have had a few more points in the first half. I don’t know if they would have won, but…
If you watch carefully, there's clearly 1 second remaining when Campbell's knee hits the ground on 4th down at the end of the game. Nowadays, Alabama would have gotten one play from the +23.
Bama played one of the best defensive halves of football that I have EVER seen in the 1st half of this Iron Bowl. Sadly, the Bama offense matched them in playing maybe one of the poorest halves of football that you’ll ever see. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
I will go to my grave knowing that Auburn got fucked out of a national Title this year. We had the best defense in yhe nation and a very well balanced offense. A great team!! That won 13 games in the SEC and lost zero!!! This was an injustice on Southern football plus ALL cfb. WDE!!!!!!
Back when the Iron Bowl was a rivalry on the field. Now it's only a rivalry between the fans. Bama fan here and I have to say that Shula had his team prepared and ready throughout his tenure, but they was never mentally strong as a whole (defense was in 2004 and 05) but elsewhere it wasn't there. 2006 was a drop back and not a step-up and Mal Moore knew which is why he fired Shula and I have to say that it paid off. RollTide1987 I thank you for the videos. You shows games Bama won and lost. I love seeing these games because it humbles as a Bama fan to don't forget where you came from and enjoy the relevance this team has because it doesn't last. Look at Notre Dame, USC (after Pete Carroll), Tennessee, Miami as examples of them fighting to get back into competing for National championships year in and year out. ROLL TIDE!
+Natell111 This was the season when Bama started strong-Won their first 3 games I believe-But then Croyle got hurt and was out for the season-After that, they went down the tubes.

2004 was a Down year in the SEC. Auburn has beaten a .500 Alabama team, Top 10 teams LSU the defending National Champions, Tennessee, and Georgia. Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Kentucky, and Arkansas a losing season, and Non-Conference slate Louisiana Monroe, Louisiana Tech, and i-AA Citadel Bulldogs
worst case scenario, Bama should have been up 9-0 at half. With just a average QB it could have been 14-0 worst case at half. A lot of lost opportunities early on in this game...
I was proud Shula had a chance, if he has a full compliment of Scholarships MAYBE he does a tad better. His issue was himself, he was not well prepared offensively, he was VERY predictable, hell even my grandmother would yell dive play dive play. He had NO offensive mind and Dave Radar bless him, came back to coach after what, working at a car dealership. It was a mess from the start. I was NOT a Shula fan after his second season. I just hated the direction of the offense..lol it was stagnant.
Yet the last three times they beat Alabama what happened? 2013 choked in the national championship to Florida State, 2017 choke to Georgia in the SEC championship then lose to UCF, 2019 lost to Minnesota.
It always amazes me how biased announcers sound concerning bama. When something went wrong, they were so dejected sounding. I also don't remember the story about David Housel saying 'roll tide' to Joe Namath...another reason not to like him.

Auburn would've put up a better fight, but I still have U$C winning.
love how excited the announcers get when alabama does something good or auburn does something bad and how disappointed they get when it's vice versa.
It's because it's Alabamas dogshit announce team
It is VERY APPARENT!!! IM glad we don't play on CBS bullshit anymore.
As a Bama fan I hate Auburn, but they were clearly the National Champs this year.
You can hear it in the voices of Verne and Gary how much they are pulling for the Tide!!! It's blatantly apparent. War Damn Eagle!!!!!

I've never seen a team suffer so many key injuries in one year as this Alabama team - maybe the 1990 team.
Tim Marsh unfortunately, this game was a microcosm of the Shula. Alot of "Nice Try" efforts, and missed opportunities
Wow....what a great excuse! “Our team had injuries”....lame!

tyrone prothro would have been so good such a shame
Especially with DJ Hall and JP Wilson as QB.
Alabama played well early, but could not capitalize on turnovers.
Tim Marsh if Alabama played as well in the second half as the first we would have won and beaten a #2 Undefeated Auburn

He couldn't win. Close games. He was too nice to be a head coach.
Only if Shula had a little creativity, they may have pulled more upsets back then.

Alabama should’ve easily won this football game! With saban there it’s a W
