    I adore Alex Garland's work and I loved the film but I was shocked to hear he was attempting to show the press in a positive light here. I found our main characters (aside form Sammy and Lee at the end) as pretty terrible people, or at least no better than the fighting soldiers themselves. Joel and Jesse regularly smirk and get a thrill from the action they're in, and all of them seem more concerned with getting the dream photo than sympathizing with what is happening around them on a human level. They aren't taking photos of what matters, they're taking photos of what they want to take photos of, hence the scene with Lee trying on the dress.

    Thanks for the upload, I saw the film in Imax for the third time today. I have a cinema season ticket, so this ticket is perfect for that. P. s. After the making of, I have to watch the film again in the original version today. My English is not that good, but after seeing it three times in German it shouldn't be a problem.
    In the gas station scene, the car was parked incorrectly; the gas cap was on the driver's side and not on the side of the gas pump. Alex said in the making of that these scenes weren't easy to shoot.

    • @bngr_bngr
      @bngr_bngr 4 дні тому +1

      That’s how people in the US pump gas. They don’t care where the pump is nor the fuel door is located. You see people pulling the gas hoses over their cars. It’s nuts.

    • @Tommi6810
      @Tommi6810 4 дні тому

      @@bngr_bngr In Germany there are also experts like that who pull on the hose like crazy. I just thought that because they are standing quite far away from the column, the car is relatively high, that the hose would actually be too short. It's not really important, I just noticed it straight away. There is actually an obvious mistake in the film though, the license plate at the front is only gone after they have left the road and a few scenes later it can be seen on the car again.

      @@Tommi6810 he said he likes to film his films linearly. There is a reason why films are not filmed that way. I think they might have used two cars. One as a camera car with equipment all over it. Then another just a regular car.

    It's a really strong movie - both from a storytelling perspective as well as the set pieces. I'm quite a fan of Olympus has Fallen and that kind of "huge siege" scenario movie and I thought those were done really well. It also hits you hard, because a lot of this is possible - would the US government bomb their own citizens to save Washington DC and The White House? Yes, very likely. If a well armed militia would attack Washington, all rules of engagement would go out of the window.

      @@Redneck2393 I mean the story of Olympus has Fallen doesn't make sense, it's essentially a 90s action movie :D

      @@DerDudelino In broad terms, the basic outline for OHF is somewhat plausible. The White House being covertly infiltrated by enemy agents does sound like something that could happen or at least be attempted, it's just the way the movie goes about it that gives it that 90s action feel. At least OHF has somewhat of an explanation (Albeit unlikely) for how thing got the way they were whereas Civil War doesn't bother explaining anything. I understand the movie is more of an anti-war/glory to the press type of movie, but the trailers did seem to be making it out to be a more regular war flick by showing mostly the battle/action scenes.

      @@Redneck2393 Don't get me wrong - I love Olympus has Fallen. It's also understandable they had to use some tricks - like that AC130 that would've never made it to Washington in real-life - they would've shot it down the moment it penetrates the US Air Corridor which is over the pacific.
      Personally I'll never understand why we don't have more movies feat. such massive assaults because they are really iconic.
      The assault on the Presidential convoy just recently in Disney+ Invasion was also my favorite thing about the show

    I wish they got a couple of photojournalist to provide better background on the kind of cameras and gears photojournalist use. I think the movie Under Fire with Nick Norte did it best. The main character uses a Sony and a telephoto lens but then for some bizarre reason uses an old manual focus Leica lens on the Sony camera. She then makes fun of the younger photographer for using film cameras. Also the use of the film cameras doesn’t make sense. The country is in the middle of a civil war. The price of a roll of film is probably $50. She probably has 30 rolls of film on her. She is carrying around her developing kit and some way to scan all her negatives. Of course at the end of the film the director forgot that they should take the main characters camera or at least the memory card with her images. Instead the cameras are left with the body. Many famous photographers have been killed where the first thing the colleagues tried to take the body or save their pictures they have taken.

      TikTok is not reality because it lacks context. People read the comments to figure out the context of the video clip. Plus most clips are created to get clicks not to show reality.

      I actually had to watch to that point to see it but yeah… they must be tired. I think this film has come at a very interesting point and the surrounding output (e.g. box office, reviews, social media response) are all interesting. It won’t change the world I don’t think but I wonder if any political figure will attempt to control the narrative? I might have missed it but I suspect that would be a bad turn on their behalf regardless. It’d be nice to see a supportive message from congress on the unreliability of press and the general consensus on how to address it. Otherwise, silence is golden (for some) and we end up here.

    For movies about modern conflict on American soil, the original Red Dawn and Olympus has Fallen will always be the best. Plenty of backstory, great casts, believable plots, and intense action. While the overall scenario for this movie is indeed plausible, the execution of it could have been done much better IMO and there are a lot of plot holes that the movie doesn't even try to fill in.

      I disagree. They are the only people that you could expect to see in a war zone without the movie taking sides. I think the movie would have been worse if you were rooting for a WF or loyalist soldier. It also added a thrill to the movie knowing they are unarmed, and just as vulnerable as a civilian yet as brave as the soldiers. Real war journalists are seriously badasses (think of the ones on the ground in Gaza right now) and I’m cool with a movie showing that.

Sadly people buy into shit WAYYY TO EASILY. Social Media has manipulated the way people communicate to the point where its always "me vs you".

    I have 2 major bifs with this film.
    #1 this film seems set in a bizarre fantasy 90's version of america, not in modern america and not reflecting real concerns about most things.
    #2 as a study of modern war, its just not remotely accurate.
    It seems a kind of cheap and shallow reflection on its own subject matter with a screen play that is no where near "done."
