This is why Maul is the one character no one has a problem with coming back after dying. There was a long drawn out painful process that only barely clung him to life, but his mind was permanently lost until the effort of outside characters brought him back. Everything about it is far more complicated, interesting, drawn out, and overall earned than any other example of a particular character being resurrected in any franchise I know of. And the cherry on top is that his story continuing onwards ended up being one of the best in all of Star Wars. They didn’t just bring him back as the same mysterious duel wielding Sith from the movie. He was never the same after, and his presence shook multiple factions in the Galaxy. Bringing Maul back was just overall extremely impactful for the franchise and one of George’s best decisions in making the Clone Wars.
I agree with you that Maul ended up being a pretty interesting character, but a new character could have been just as interesting. By the end, I was sort of tired of watching Maul get screwed up. Every time you see him, you are just wondering where his next big L is coming from.
@@noahblevins9569 I don’t think he was taking L’s. He was going against the strongest factions in the galaxy The Jedi, and the Sith but he couldn’t build a strong enough alliance to take them on.
I'm not very familiar with this part of Star Wars, so forgive my ignorance. But, when you say "brought Maul back" are you referring to what we see in the video or did they bring him back even further down the road after the events in this video?
i think a video on the logical counterpart to this story would be a good follow up. "Why DIDN'T Quii-Gon survive". he often gets a bad rep and is the butt of many starwars memes because of this but it is my opinion that he could have. that his injuries were 100% survivable. we've seen other jedi and even non force sensitive's pull it off. so he totally could have held on long enough to recieve medical aid. and there in is the key point; he COULD have, and chose not to. i think that like how its said "your life flashes before your eyes" when you're about to die when a powerful or at least knowledgable jedi faces their final moments they see more clearly into and through the force as it calls their essence back to it. i am of the opinion that the exact moment Maul's saber pierced Quii-Gon's torso he saw it all. saw past the looming haze of the dark side and saw everything. from what would be needed to make the council allow the chosen one to be trained to the bitter reality of what he would do, HAD to do, to bring about ballance. he wasn't just at peace with death, he was enlightened by it, and accepted his own sacrafice as the first stepping stone of what would be a long and tragic, but necesarry, course of events.
Qui Gon was at peace with the force and submitted completely to it's will. Qui Gon is seen as the perfect jedi because he submitted completely to the force. We know that it was the will of the force that he died there because if he didn't die Anakin wouldn't have been trained by Obi Wan. If Anakin wasn't trained by Obi Wan he probably never would of turned to the dark side to destroy palpatine at the second deathstar. With both the jedi order (light) and the sith (dark) destroyed by Anakin thats how anakin brought balance. Because the force wanted Qui Gon to die, he died but the sith seek to bend the force to their will which is what maul did to survive.
I’ve heard other detail of how Maul survived, but never about how he got the spider chassis. Glad to finally have that answer. Now to answer the next big question- how did Maul go from the leader of a huge networked crime syndicate at the end of the Clone Wars series and the Solo movie, to a lone nomad with nothing left for him but a futile desire for revenge against Kenobi, Sidious, and anyone else who contributed to his downfall?
Qi'ra. As I recall from the comics, she's seen auctioning off Han Solo's body between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It hasn't been said what exactly happens, but my bet is she left Maul stranded on Malachor and she took over the business.
Not so much tossed as gravity an the Force pulling what was left down the shaft after even young Kenobi was a bit surprised it seemed at what he did. In addition to Maul surviving Ep1 via Sith training would imagine that having a catastrophic injury ALSO instantly cuaterized so he didnt need worry about infection and/or bleeding out probably helped. Though how all that helped keep him being eaten alive by acid... sure took some channeled abilities to pull off. One the things i find amazing in addition to this story an events in it is how he not just went insane BUT fully later REGAINED his sanity an probably sparked some sorta local "Monster Quest" Legend of the crazy alien cyborg or something...
You know what I find amusing? There are "Fans" who hate Maul surviving and don't think it's realistic for Star Wars and i'm like "Do you know who Darth Sion is?".
Yes , a very powerful Sith Lord from the kotor 2 game , he much like maul had so much anger in him that sion mange to live for millions of years , he’s so old that it’s even said the he was their when the first Jedi and sith wars started .
@@AlternativeHistory32you’re mistaken. Darth Sion did not live for “a million years”. The Sith (knightly order, not the Sith species) have literally only existed in the Star Wars universe for about 7000 years. Sion was born during the old Sith wars, at most a few decades before 4000 BBY and died about 50 years later.
They totally could have botched Darth Maul's return/survival, as they did with Sidious in the non canon Rise of Skywalker lol. However, I think they did a phenomenal job with the story we got in the Clone Wars. My personal opinion, I think Lucas made the same mistake with Maul as he did with Boba Fett in the original trilogy. The idea being that he severely underestimated the potential of the characters and how popular they were with fans. With the prequels specifically, I don't really think George put a whole lot of longer term thought into them, which is why certain characters seem rather unimportant or have very limited parts in the plot.
It sucks that they didn't do the flashbacks in the show. This unexplained survival set a bad precedent for Star Wars. The lore likes filling plot holes and errors for bad on-screen plots way too much.

Yes, but Jedi aren't experienced in dark side enough to win vs Sith by using dark side, Maul feed from Obi-Wan's rage and won as the novel said. He lost when he was overconfident and thought Obi-Wan was unarmed.
I think it's more likely that the Lotho Minor Junkers, who all have cybernetic limbs, built the spider legs for Maul. Under threat of death or just altruism. That makes more sense than him willing them into existence.
As a final insult to injury, he was left to rot and scrape out a living on the galaxy's junk yard planet - Lotho Minor for 12-13 years. Personally, I think his resurrection was 1 of SWCW's BEST episodes! Thank you George Lucas for allowing it!
you need to do a video of how different the clone wars would've been had maul had either killed kenobi or fled. Maybe he lives thinking in his arrogance that he killed kenobi and just left him hanging, thinking no one could survive that.
