I'm sad this W140 never received the V16 engine that Mercedes-Benz stopped developing.
My mother assembled the radio/ buttons for these cars. They were all attached manually on the carrier plate by home-based workers. I helped her after school. It must have been hundreds of thousand buttons over the years.

@@TheRockeyAllen yes. They had their fleet of drivers. They just put it on the front porch and collected it one or two days later. The home workers later got replaced by sheltered workshop due to cost reasons and eventually by fully automated production.

I fell in love with the W140s in the 90s. Today I feel the same way about them. Timeless luxury sedans.
I remember taking a 1997 600 SEC up to 220 km/h on the Autobahn back in 2008. I was surprised at how long it took to brake down to 140 km/h. I really felt kinetic energy that the brakes had to deal with. It was a joy to drive. The way you could effortlessly toss around the two ton car with a finger. The roar from the V12 and the firm push into the seat when stepping on the accelerator, the substantial yet smooth brakes. All with the wafty, insulated sensation of the S-class.

Iam a honda guy myself too and as much as I love Mercedes,cuz iam European-American and I was bored there,there's no point to buy a Mercedes here in the states,parts are expensive and mostly of the time shops will keep your car for months till they get the parts.In Europe is different,Mercedes is like Honda over in Europe,you have parts everywhere and everyone knows how to fix it.
Even the side windows of this are double layer laminated back in the days

It's not a car, it's a masterpiece. The best S class. Dead smooth even at high speed. That logo on the bonnet, steering wheel and gear knob screams class. Great driving!

Well W221 and W222 are nice. They messed up the design of W223 slightly( the rear lights look like a cla) but they don't look that bad.
We need S600, a real V12, M120. W140 is an insane heavy flying monstrous ship. Still quiet, still rock solid @260.
Imagine driving a s280 w140 how underpowered it is vs the 600😁

@@edvardsz3539 same as my 95 s320l, yeah it feels pretty quick than the 280. Only thing is that I prefer the swb than the lwb.lwb is ok for long distance driving but in town it is a bit hassle to fit in a parking space 😅
Only thing is the 4speed 722.3 starts with 2nd gear make it feels like it need sometimes to get to the speed you want it to unless select gear 2 or kickdown than you certainly feels the pull from the m104

I just bought a 97 w140. It's literally the coolest car ever.. double panned window's super quiet. I've never driven anything as smooth.. I love this car. Huge luxurious fast.. freaking beautiful!!!!! car

I grew up in this car as a child. My dad loved it! Easily the most iconic modern car at the time, and i prefer oldschool over these cars that will eventually controll themselves in the future
I think W140 is Mercedes-Benz's best model ever. Exactly perfect.
When I think of "S class" the W140 is what comes to my mind.
Something Lexus LS 400 is even better than this Mercedes-Benz.

@@dragospahontu I think it depends, although I don't disagree. If the W140 is as good as the W124, it will still be good to own for 20 more years where I live. Not sure LS 400 can. For the sake of comparison, W124's of 1986 parts can still be found today, and somehow I see W140 is similar to it and the second generation started 1997. But as a car of its time then yes, LS 400 I think is better over all. I own a W124 300E.

Everyone needs to experience the german autobahn once in their life.
And that Benz is just pure awesome,one of the perfect cars for this purpose.

А сейчас, когда для них нет больше никакой угрозы революции, все маски сброшены и мы имеем ломающиеся вёдра за баснословные деньги с опциями, которые работают только по подписке.

Vielleicht hat er sich erschrocken und es hat ihm nicht so gefallen, so überholt zu werden. Wenn man von einem Auto mit dem Tempo überholt wird, gibt's ne ganz schöne Druckwelle, die das Fahrzeug auf der Mittelspur ein bisschen durchschüttelt. Darum überhole ich Motorradfahrer nicht mit solch großen Geschwindigkeitsunterschieden, damit die nicht ins Schleudern kommen. Ich habs auch schon auf ner 3-spurigen Autobahn erlebt, dass diejenigen, die auf der Mittelspur fahren, ganz schnell auf die rechte Spur wechseln, nachdem ich sie mit 250 links überholt habe. Man muss sich das aus der anderen Perspektive vorstellen: Du fährst da 160 und ahnst nichts Böses. Und plötzlich ballert links von dir einer vorbei, der noch mal 90 km/h mehr drauf hat und es rüttelt dich einfach durch. Manche Leute fahren nicht täglich auf der Autobahn, sind das nicht gewöhnt, die stehen unter höchster Anspannung, während man selbst durchs Taining eher entspannt ist. Für die ist son Überholmanöver teilweise echt belastend.
Der hat bestimmt Kaffee gekocht bei seinen 100km/h. Und die Hälfte verschüttet.. 😂

Das Teil wiegt über 2 Tonnen.. wenn der mit 240 Km/h an dir vorbei fährt kannste dir denken was da für eine Druckwelle entsteht 😂Würde ich mich als der Golf fahrer auch erschrecken..
