Rainwater Harvesting Plan Using 275 Gallon IBC Totes, a Trailer and Shipping Containers

- We purchased a 2nd shipping container and two 275 gallon ICB Totes! We're going to build a roof between the containers to store equipment, then use that huge surface area to capture rainwater for our trees as well as other things you need water for.
In this video we show the trailer and lay out our plan. The 2nd container should (if weather cooperates) be delivered at the end of the week. Once we have that positioned correctly, we'll buy the lumber required and get started on the roof.
After we get the rainwater harvesting system in place, next will be solar for the whole setup.

Love the use of IBC totes, we got a bunch for free to use as goat shelters, but trying to locate more again for rainwater collection.

Sounds like a great plan! We got the totes to collect water, but didn’t really plan out how we were going to collect the water or use the water once connected🤦🏼♀️ I currently have a 55 gallon barrel filled with rain water but I don’t know how to get the water out and use it!
We have a tote strapped onto a 4ft trailer that we can tow behind our machines. But it’s been empty this whole time because we still don’t have the gutter installed. So embarrassing.
Great idea for the totes. I still need to get mine placed.
We just picked up the gutter last weekend, now I need to get the other pieces and get in installed.
Math on the rain is about 600 gallons per 1000 square feet . I know cuz I just finished hooking up my totes in July and filled 2 of them with my 200 sq ft roof. Sounds like a great plan and I like how you are planning to stay under the weight limit for the trailer. Great ideas.

That's a great question, we aren't sure yet. This is totally new to us so we'll probably experiment along the way. Especially because we don't plan on drinking any of this. Do you suggest it?
