Hey Austin - Just wanted to post a quick THANK YOU for having taken this leap to auction your beautiful and practical Gem at BJ. It was very "well bought" by the buyer, as expectations of at least another $20K would not have been unfounded. Many who have undertaken such a project would agree you'd be right to be a bit disappointed by the results. Nice that you are gracious about it, given the care, thoughtful and hard work dedicated to polishing this "Gem." Maybe if it had been a popular name like Airstream or perhaps Spartan the value would have been more fairly recognized. Still, fun as I'm sure it was to roll through Scottsdale, the results dictate BJ may not yet be the best place to sell an item like this. Maybe if more people did BJ might grow that market, but I think a direct sale or through BAT or a vintage trailer FB group would have produced better results, especially considering premiums, travel etc.
Care to share thoughts on if you'd do it again, and if so what you might do differently?

Hey Paul! Your most welcome! It was a gamble for sure but quite a trip. I wouldn't do it again, but it was worth a shot. Last year they sold a 56 Airstream for 160k, a Spartan sold later in the week at this same sale for 36k which was probably 30k light. If I did it over again I probably would have sold through bring a trailer or a F.B. group. I would have really felt better at about 25k+ for my GEM, but you never know until you try. I enjoy my work and love restoration. If I do another trailer though, it will be for a paying customer or as a keeper. No sense in crying over spilled milk. Keep hustling, win some, lose some 😉 thanks for checking us out and have a fantastic day 😁

@@MrVintageRestoration I agree, 25k would be a fair price and a far better value than what you can get for 25k in a new trailer. I'm wondering how you handled the vin, since that is usually stamped into the frame that you discarded.

@@timlee5260 I suppose it's a matter of questionable legality to some. I undertook it as a restoration. The frame was an exact duplicate of the original and I just restamped the vin on the new frame and continued assembly. In all honesty a new vin could have been completely justified, the percentage of original parts from the original trailer was probably less than 1/2. Most states are not really sticklers about travel trailers

It was certainly a little bittersweet, but it did go to a great new home. I did meet the new owners, and can say it's got a loving home and a happy future 😁
