Professional road cycling pundit Lanterne Rouge presents highlights of stage 13 / résumé étape 13 / resumen etapa 13 of the Vuelta a España 2021. Florian Sénéchal Deceuninck - Quick Step wins the stage followed by Matteo Trentin UAE-Team Emirates and Alberto Dainese Team DSM. Odd Christian Eiking Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux leads the general classification.
I love how quickstep proved that they are still team time trail champs absolutely smashing the last kilometres.
Just adding on the accolades you mentioned:)....They really are a remarkable cohesive unit, be it exactly as you mentioned the TTT , the final few kilometers of a sprint finale, the decisive kilometers of a classic they have so many explosive men who can hold that surge and that label has been earned year in year out for a long time. Couple memorable exceptions like the Ian stannard omloop het nieuwsblad 3v1 but that's a compliment really you can remember the times over years they haven't nailed it. Love seeing stybar back healthy one of few who can follow the wheel of the biggest engines and be used in any variety of leadout's. So dynamic started so strong this year before health issue maybe he is fit just in time for worlds or Roubaix he's a great rider tough as they come really nice to see:)
Trentin sitting on DQS train: “Yes, yes, viva Belgium! I am team.”
Trentin was part of Quickstep for 6 seasons, so I think both DQS and Trentin forgot they're not in the same team anymore
Trentin still has wet dreams thinking he is back at DQS winning sprints
Trentin: I am blueberry 🥸
LOL dude
Deceuninck has such insane depth in cobbled classic specialists that their depth in sprinters gets overlooked.
Bennett (top 3 sprinter)
Cavendish (all time best TDF sprinter)
Ballerini (won bunch sprint at Omloop this year)
Jakobsen (won Scheldeprijs twice back to back)
Hodeg (beat Merlier in a sprint a week ago)
Morkov (best leadout)
Senechal (already a top 15 cobbler, now a GT sprint stage winner)
Bennett moved to Bora.
@@anomalousresult Yeah. He and Archbold are going back. Super weird. Almost like they were just on loan for 2 years. Hodeg is off to UAE with Almeida too so I’m excited to to see what DQS are going to do with the free budget. They still have to resign Cav and a bunch of young riders like Honore and Ballerini, and might blow their budget trying to keep them.
Who needs a sprinter with such boss lead-outs 😎
Morkov also had to slow down near the finish line in the tdf to let Cav past.
Jacobson is seen after the stage complaining to Senechal “if you don’t look back and wait (for me) you’re no lead out”. He repeats that twice on camera. I’m surprised he spoke like that on camera (just rewatch the GCN+ live stream). Spicy stuff.
How ironic is that just as Jakobsen was talking about how Pidcock and Bernal undercut him (6:40), he has to pause bc the announcer is blasting out "Egaaan Bernaaal!" Credit to Fabio for handing the sprint to Senechal and his green jersey is pretty secure.
He had cramps or something, he didnt hand it to Senechal on purpose. It was just luck
Thanks that was a great review of the last 5km and the way it affected the last 1km
Krieger did not slap his thigh
Alpecin Fenix should watch this channel, they might learn a thing or two
LOL
I would say, Krieger thought that his sprinter was at his wheel, but he wasnt so he stopped imeadiatly
So happy for Florian S.
Fantastic Recap!
Senechal did a great job taking over the job and getting it done. It's Jakobsen's responsibility to be on his train, and whether he was gassed (and later found out had a flat) or was just gassed.
4:05 in the overhead, you can see Jakobsen radio the guys ahead.
After the finish, the camera catching Jakobsen and Senechal, Jakobsen didn't look too happy. Pretty shitty of Jakobsen to come at Senechal like that pre-podium.
ua-cam.com/video/Oo-0AEPUJiQ/v-deo.html
Agreed, the scene after crossing the line and Jakobsen’s first comments to Sebechal are bad. Senechal is always an exemplary domestic and lead out men, he diserves his first win.
@@ThibaultChe Jakobsen and Senechal are best mates, I'm sure they can take it from eachother
Great shots at 4:33 to 4:37
A bit of confusion with the explanation on social media, but being able to shift focus to Senechel for the sprint was pretty sweet. Tight teamwork to be able to switch in the last km. Glad for Florian. Thanks for the concise recap. I had trouble seeing all since I was primarily watching Fabio, lol.
I'm editing to add that while I agree with the above, I think the lead out for Fabio just burned him out with the speed they used. They lost him and there was no one to help get him back on the DQT wheels. Strong lead out, but losing the sprinter is a problem 😉Would love to know the real story...
I see it differently than LR, Bernal finding form. Peaking for 3rd week!!!
He will be peaking on todays stage...😃
I'd like to think that Jakobsen took a reality check and switched to blocking at the key moment. Nice tactics if so.
@@martinkent333 lmao what is this
Incredible Bernal got try to sprinting.
Epic leadout
Bonkers sizzling mega lead out, like where the hell is Demar though?
Offer one sprint stage in 2nd week of grand tour and you get similar amount of sprinters.
Demare retired last season
Its weird that Jakobsen was mad after the finish because he said that he told Senechal to sprint in stead of him because he didn’t have the legs
probably annoyed that he didn't have the legs and/or annoyed about the way he lost his teammates' wheels. he'll be ok.
@@RobertTarmac idk Man.
Some of the riders appear to have something stuffed inside the back upper part of their jerseys (an example of this is at 1:45 ). It's not the first time I've noticed riders doing this. Anybody know what they're stuffing in there and why? It looks like it's a little too high up to be a pocket.
That's their radio.
Jiffy bags.
Didn't seem angry to me
LR knows Egan in title=more views
Unfortunately this is the way of the world. I also recorded before seeing the footage of Jakobsen roasting Senechal, which would have been funny to include
I couldn't click fast enough lol
Whats the point of 3km rule when they can gain or lose time on the last 3km anyways???
It only applies when a rider is held up by a crash
If there is a crash, they get same time. Sprinter teams have been trying to change the rules but no traction of yet.
There hasn't been a crash, so why not finish with the bunch eh ?
Probably to lessen the risks for crashes and limit gc riders from competing for places in the top
@@raulguerras1532 no, it only applies when there's a crash.
This was Trentin's chance...
and Demare
So much respect for Jakobsen. How many top sprinters have the humility to asess their legs at 4km and hand off the finish to a support rider? Remarkable.
Where's Magnus Cort? Been so used to seeing him at the finish line, its weird not seeing him.
Said before the race he would rest today because of some hard days prior
They are the Wolfpack bc any of them can hunt...
Bernal does a Rogla.
Title change?

2nd cant wait for this vid
I put it down to poor technique. There is no way you lose the wheel in a corner due to not enough power. You're in the draft saving so many watts in what... 5th wheel? It's not even like he was forced to abandon his line due to being guttered. I mean if you have a team like that you should ask yourself if you spend enough time improving bike handling and using the team resources to help you with it.
He touched the brakes. The 4 ahead didn’t. Gap is created.
@@MichaelBoogerd Well that's exactly my point. If he had better cornering technique he wouldn't need to brake more than his teammates. Also he was behind Pidcock, Bernal and Trentin when they latched on again, which arguably leaves a lot of drafting gains so his 'my legs weren't there' statement must mean he has some Michael Woods level technique or something. That's a shame really as a sprinter as it rules out a lot of sprint finishes that are technical
I don't get Jakobsen's reaction. If you get dropped by your own sprint train, that's on you. It shows his character though. Lefevere is really rubbing off on him. It's easy to be graceful when winning, but when things don't go their way, the entire wolfpack falls apart. Great racers with zero class.
Did we watch the same video?
Jakobsen is right IMO, the process from the quickstep leadout here was not optimal and they only won through luck and very weak competition. If they do a steady leadout with Jakobsen he wins this stage by multiple bike lengths. In the TDF next year they wouldn't be able to get away with this.
@@Nidhogg05 instagram.com/stories/trollcyclist/2649735077044315280?
I think he’s talking about this reaction.
@@blakeewing7275 30yo boomer without social media here
@@Nidhogg05 he says congrats then says something like if you don’t turn around and look you aren’t a leadout man.
Trentin a sprinter on paper proves yet again he can't win sprint from small group or bunch sprint 🤣
Where is the lol reaction 🤔
@@martinkent333 You replied to everybody with the same fucking text. Is everything alright ?
Sky protecting their leaders is soo good
Thats their biggest strength
Who's sky? Sky Brown?
Something doesn’t add up with the whole Jacobsen situation.
If he didn't think he could win, he did the right thing - block!
@@icollectstories5702 yeah it was genius tactics
@@andyolsen4517 agreed
Perhaps Jacobsen' decision was uncommonly selfless next to the likes of Cavendish or even latter-day Sagan?
Looked like Jakobsen had a mechanical
not having the legs is the biggest cap I've heard in a while, it looked so much like a mechanical
First yet again
good shit man
Have a cookie you earned it
Who's your leadout man ?

jakobsen punctured
jakobsen had a flat
he didn't
@@woutverriest2665 Indeed he told press he just didn't have the legs.
@@MarvinWestmaas Well maybe he didn't have the legs because he had a flat. Both are not exclusive and even very logical, he perhaps didn't notice the slow puncture and was wasting many many additional watts.
@@swe223 If you look at the video he is looking down but that could have been him realizing his effort isn't resulting in the acceleration he thought he was going to get and checking for a mechanical issue, seeing there is none and quickly realizing that if it's not his bike, it's his legs?
Could very well be a slow puncture but don't you think he would actually mention something like that? The way he talked, he was even asked specifically if he had technical issues and he said no, I don't see a reason why he wouldn't be truthful so I am taking his word for it.
@@swe223 I think someone forgot to tell Jakobsen he had a flat before he was interviewed
