MIKE, LU & OG to me feels like a Nicktoon that Cartoon Network adopted after Nickelodeon abandoned it. The overall art style of the show feels rather reminsicent to Klasky/Csupo's outings like RUGRATS and AAH! REAL MONSTERS, and the fact that Nickelodeon regulars like Nika Futterman and Nancy Cartwright were among the voice cast gives it more of a Nicktoon feel than a Cartoon Cartoon feel.
The cartoons during those times had already had such unique looks to them, and that THIS show stood out from the crowd makes it all the more memorable. And there's so much crossover with voice acting, sometimes it's hard to keep track of which show was on which network!
@@ItsTheGooseItsTheGoose Agreed, and honestly, that's one of the things I miss the most about TV animation from that period, is how they all had their own unique and distinct look and style to them, it was also fun to kind of look at them and recognize a certain creator's work when you see some of their other examples of animation. Unfortunately, you can't even discuss this on social media platforms like Twitter, because then you get bombarded by an army of butthurt people who want to hang labels on you like "Nostalgiatard" and "Bean-mouth hater."
Exactly!. I always thought mike lu and og was nick show mainly cause it has the same art style of shows like rocket power and Rugrats. You have no idea how good it feels to know that someone actually sees what I see.👍👍👍👍
Definitely a show that you remember watching as a kid but not many people speak about it. Thank you for this video, I remember watching this whenever I'd go to the hospital early in the morning with my mom, it would play on the small crt TV in the lobby lol
I watched this show on Tooncast when I was 18 in 2022 during my winter break in college. It definitely had this chill vibe to it and I am suprised how not so many people remember it. I remember a lot of the gimmicks Og built.
Nice video. I watched the premiere on a Friday 19:00 time slot. I remember an important promo campaign by Cartoon Network Latin America. But for some reason, I wasn't hooked. The theme song was really catchy, and the animation looked good. But it wasn't not an "adventure" or an "everyday life" cartoon. I seem to remember that in the Latin dub Mike was _stranded_ , not exchanged. I thought at the time Mike didn't looked quite "girly", and for an Latin American audience maybe her name sounded a bit odd. I don't think _Mike, Lou, & Og_ aged that well 25 years later, but that whole era of TV will always have a special spot on my memory, and that's why I remember this with a warm feeling.
And also I would like this show to rerun on Checkered Past on [adult swim] alongside Robot jones, Sym-bionic titan, Secret Saturdays and Robotomy to return after getting cancelled
Back in Pakistan this show would come on in the living room when we layed down our beds and everyone from my parents sometimes dad would work late and my sister and baby brother would be watching all the shows like dexter powerpuff and sheep. However when everyone would be sleeping I was the only one awake to watch this show late 2 am and was alawaus excited 😊. This show was my favorite late night cartoon. It has created great memories for me. ❤
So cool someone has finally done a video about this show. It’s a secret fave of mine. I watched it before going to school. Sad that ‘throwback retro cartoon review’ channels don’t even remember this fun show
It’s a shame this show isn’t more talked about. A quirky art style and really enjoyable characters, definitely a completely unique cartoon. That’s a great way to start your mornings!
Omg same here! This show, especially the intro is super nostalgic because it used to play before I went to school (and that's the only time it was on TV) 🥺
I've had the theme music in my head for days and decided to look it up. I was really young when this program was on the air during it's initial run, but even then, i shared the sentiment that it was a much more relaxed affair than most other programs on CN. It never got much air time if i remember correctly, so it was more like a nice treat whenever you caught it.
What a cartoon show and the nickelodeon counterpart Oh Yeah! Cartoons were truly underrated. So much creativity and experimentation, they would never let that fly nowadays
Yes I remember the show. I was born in 2000 and I miss half part of cartoon cartoons. When I was three years old, I just only watch it for only 10 seconds mainly because it didn’t felt like a Cartoon Network show and felt too odd and bland and slapstick wasn’t there. To me, it felt like a show that came from nickelodeon and the design really reminds me of the Rugrats and Ahh real monsters. And I think it’s because of the weird sketchy design that feels undone. Now I’m 23 and I decided to watch Cartoon Network shows that were underrated that didn’t gain a lot of attention and Mike Lu and Og is a perfect example. I have decided to watch a lot of these Cartoon Network shows because there’s been a lot of crazy stuff that’s going on my family and I didn’t feel like watching it at the moment. Now I have watch couple episodes and I have to say I actually love the show so much and I’m still finishing it. I just like The designs and I’m more of a crazy art freak such as posters, art and even cartoons. I would love to see a revival for the show it needs a lot of love because the show is damn great and it’s totally better than today’s corny, atrocious cringe and disgraceful shows that’s on Cartoon Network😂 overall the show is a 10 out of 10!!! PS: I’ve also developed a huge massive crush on Mike because of her looks, redhead and her cute voice. She gets even cuter when she gets irritated or scared. Ahhh I miss those days with cartoon Network😂
Always said this show would have faired better on Nickelodeon the main reason this show is forgotten compare to the other cartoon cartoons was because CN did not play this show in reruns after it ended in 2001 all the other cartoon cartoons like cow and chicken were still airing in reruns till about 2007 but mike lu an og wasn’t.
@@ItsTheGooseItsTheGoose It's amazing how I hadn't heard the song in years, but within the first 5 seconds of hearing it, it all came flooding back to me. Looks like there are quite a few full episodes on UA-cam, which is nice. I watched the hotdog episode. 🌭
I had the song in my head for years but could NEVER find it it was a DECENT show!! Alfred is the dad; Margery? (not sure of spelling) Is the wife (same name as marge Simpson) ; The old man who lives in the cave; is called Old Queeks also mentioned a few times; Wendel is Lu's dad; the ' mayor of the island' (they mentioned their names a fair few times :) ) ONE episode mentioned Lu and Og are cousins Love the ed credit song too aha
Don't forget Corey Burton as The Old Man, who also voiced Count Doku and Cad Bane, Brainiac from DC Animated Universe, majority of Disney characters, James Bond Jr. and V.V. Argost.
Nice! I'm new to your channel and i love your content! I hope you do a video on Sheep in the Big City and Time Squad. They're my favorite obscure CN shows.
Sheep in the Big City is definitely on the list. I didn't realize anyone else but me remembered that show! I'm not familiar with Time Squad, I'll have to give it a look-see. Thanks for the recommendation! 🙌
MLO came out at the wrong time; the Powerhouse era was absolutely stacked. Getting good timeslots was at its most competitive and it was simply no match for Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, PPG, EENE, Courage, etc. Especially with Nickelodeon adding the juggernaut that is Spongebob, CN had to put on their absolute best at those valuable timeslots. If it came out during the City era when things were more opened up it might have fared better.
The fact that it aired anywhere for as long as it did is good enough for me! I don't think it would ever get made and aired on a major (cartoon) network now.
This show was boring. Every episode was the same thing. The islanders see something totally normal and freak out then Mike says "Oh that this thing we have in the city". Then Og proceeds to try to make it available on the island and fails.

The fun thing about art is that there's no wrong answers. It's just fun when you find like minded people 👍

Og always reminded me of the island version of Double D
Now that is a great comparison!
well they do sound very close

It was such a laid-back show. Definitely an interesting era of cartoons!
As a Mike Lu and Og fan. This show deserves a comeback with a revival and maybe a possible movie or prequel tv film
Any and all of those sound great to me!
And also I would like this show to rerun on Checkered Past on [adult swim] alongside Robot jones, Sym-bionic titan, Secret Saturdays and Robotomy to return after getting cancelled
Today in 2023 is this Show's 24th Anniversary
Alongside courage too
It should've been on nickelodeon

It was always a breath of fresh air whenever I managed to catch it. A good one for sure!
Very "slice of life". It was pretty mellow and underrated show.
Totally! A made for tv movie would have been a nice sendoff for the series. We can always dream though.

So many great cartoons came from those compilations too. Maybe we'll get lucky enough to have a revival someday!

I loved this show, but somehow it made me a bit sad for Mike 😄 I always wanted her to be saved and brought back to the city as she missed it so much

In response to the saying that the old man never had a name, I always thought his name was Queeks. Not sure why, maybe they mentioned it once.
Favorites: Mike Lu and Og, Wild thorn berries, Courage the cowardly dog and Roccos Modern life.
All great shows!
i still remember the pet turtles name- Sir Lancelot
Great memory!
Lancelot is one of the most funniest animals in a show
It should be noted that this had Charles Swenson, the Swenson of Murakami Wolf Swenson that worked on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

What's the episode where Wendell scares an ostrich?
