Good recovery! Some things just don't go to plan. Don't worry about the bulge too much in the metal surround, if/when you paint this with raptor or satin black it'll disguise this.
Having put in 3 windows and a skylight this week, I know that stressed feeling.......if it happens to leak you can get silicone liquid "seek & seal " that you can use to fix any small holes in the sealant👍🏻
Well done, great comeback from the edge of disaster... I'll be fitting my windows next week.. So now I'm going to 'Dry fit' first... Thanks for teaching me
Thanks mick. I dry tested on the bench without screws and it seemed ok but didn’t dry fit on the van with the screws because they are self tapping and sometimes they can not work as well if you take them out. But I wish I had now!
Great recovery 👏its always unnerving cutting a big hole in the van.. currently mid build in our MWB Crafter and only2 small holes left to do thank fk😅..as we fitted a Dometic Freshjet AC and my french was fluent at certain stages with the installation 😂..
The old, forgot about the 2mm steel wall thickness trick. Pitty you didn't sand or taper the wood frame that was against the metal body maybe next time. The other trick is to treat the cut metal with a rust inhibiter (phosphoric acid) then paint the bare metal with an enamel paint to minimise air and water vapour causing long term corrosion.
Naaa just level with the profile of the van so it sits parallel with the lines of the van if that makes sense. I don’t think you can use a level because the level will alter as the weight goes up as stuff goes in.

Thanks Sam. I think we are just going to leave it. It’s one of them. But great idea if it bugs me to much.
Well done bro. Good recovery. Rather you than me
I thought it was a new window job and a hole in the van for a few days 😂
Great recovery. Think I'd have just gone down to the Bridge Inn and drowned my sorrows.
😂😂

That’s an awesome hack thanks Iain. Did you have any leaks. All my windows and fans have been fine and we have had some heavy rain. 👍
@abucklife no leaks, but I have yet to drive it when raining as thats the final test!🤞
I need to do that. Now I’m worried 😂

I felt your pain, great recovery - my language would have been infinitely worse!
🙏 I think there was just morning camera 😂

Thanks pal. Just when you think you have cracked it it throws another curve ball. Good luck with your van build! 🤜🤛
Nice recovery, I had a similar experience with one of my large side windows, that was also extremely stressful but turned out ok in the end.
Thanks pal. 🙏 Very stressful and I definitely wasn’t sure it would work! But 4 hours of graft later and even I was shocked.
@@abucklife yeah nice work, it looks great. Making me consider getting some rear windows!
@@848flex thanks David. Yer I think it will be some welcome ventilation in the bed are.

I know. I’ve put two more in and I did sand and curve the corners. It hasn’t done it in the corners but there is still a bit of panel warp.
Mmmmmmmmmm level to what... 🤔🤔🤔 if you mean level to the ground... you can use a clean tube filled with water.. that will give you a try level

@@abucklife must say you pulled out a great save with that window.. 👍
Thanks mate. I honestly thought is was a new window job.
