The Infected is a survival crafting game set in an open world sandbox. Build your base defend and protect yourself from wildlife and infected Vambies.
The virus was more severe than anticipated, but treatment was looking promising. The latest drug trial seemed to work, with many getting better and fatality rates dropping. But everything changed. Mutations appeared in DNA, and unexpected side effects are piling up, changing people. Locals call them Vambies; they look like a mix between a vampire and zombie.
What The Infected is About:
A group of friends headed out to a remote part of a forest for a camping weekend. After a week without contact from the campers, one of the parents decided to look at their last known location. It beats waiting...

This game is a lot of fun. I've been playing it for years now and the Dev (a lone guy I believe) has done a lot of work on it and still continue to expend on it.

A few helpful things to know to make your start smoother. some folks call this spoilers......I don't ....I died too many times that first winter because the directions aren't clear or not enough etc.
Even after the tutorial is done, you need to remember the "F" key. It contains a lot of useful info as to the day and time and the rush to prepare for winter.
Almost everything -- except the most basic needs require you to find tech to make it.
Use pumpkin lamps in the beginning. 1 pumpkin 3 sticks, they make a lot of light. last forever. Can use outside as they don't go out. Early on pumpkins are plentiful. If you don't like the face turn it to face the wall -- they still give the same light.
You can kill and use your axe to butcher animals when away from home but you will get much less materials from them but if you are starving to death, that may be your only option. NEVER EVER FORGET to wash your hands after butchering. If you eat anything before washing hands you get poisoned and you cannot make an antidote until you get the tech for chemistry table and the proper ingredients!! This poison will kill you in very short order. You can use water in canteen to wash hands.
You can set the trees to re spawn in the options before starting the game. But I don't think this is for the boulders as well. So as you clear near the base the resources get farther and farther away. This can be very bad in winter. So while the weather is good -- go farther out. You can make a cart and place 2 storage crates on top and a stone crate and a coal crate will fit in cart under the storage crates. You can utilize the mines this way even without extractors. Watch out for those darned scorpions. Start collecting mushrooms from the mine so when you get the food table you can use to make MRE's . Great for in winter!
Winter is no joke! You will freeze to death quickly if you are not very careful as to food shelter and clothing. In winter you can't go far from your shelter in case of snow storms. Blizzards are full on white outs and you can get lost and freeze to death. But with the recent updates, it seems you can get frozen if outside too long at all. ( I was just chopping firewood to the side of the cabin and picking up loose stones and nearly died to get 2 trees down. )
Bears and wolves are also NO JOKE! Early days -- seek shelter or run.
Water basins are a must to make water, put it directly beside a campfire outside and just click back and forth to fill. Also put a top over all fires as the rain puts them out. That means forges too. You can't use water basins in winter. They don't fill with snow for water.
Because NONE of the vegetables you are finding on the map are there in the winter--
Make a pumpkin crate and a watermelon crate and make sure they are full before winter. (I was able to do 2 each).
You can put planter boxes inside the house around the coal stove, so its only 8 plots, but it will get you thru winter. You can't put more than that as they immediately die. I don't know if you can use multiple stoves as my cabin is too small. You can overheat and damage your health if the cabin is too hot. Can't bring the water basins inside so have to use the canteen. You can stand in door and use it to pick up snow and use to water plants. Takes 2 trips to fully water 1 plot and this takes a LOT of time to do 8 plots. Put a campfire inside to boil snow for water, and an extra heat source if you made your build too long or wide it will need more than 1 heat source. The greenhouse is costly and you still need to water! Yeah you can get the water house but it needs electric which is at least 3 more techs to find. I'd rather get myself set up and worry about all that later.
Need to get defensive measures in place for the vambies. If not they will be inside the base and wrecking everything you worked so hard on, and all machinery outside. (Yes they can open doors!, yours and in the towns. In town close doors after you enter so if you hear a door, you know they are there with you.) Vambies can climb rocks (mountains), and go over water just like you. (You and vambies can walk, run, drive, over ANY water! Drowning is not a thing in game as yet) So defenses are a must! The dev made a recent update and changed the vambies down a little, so the wood spikes seem to be a good deal again. A good perimeter of wooden spikes is keeping me safe for now. Just don't forget to make a hammer and do immediate repairs to them as soon as they are cleared. It just takes sticks and a hammer.
Take time to actually think about what you really need this 1st year to get a foothold. In my opinion major expansion can wait until the 2nd year.

Mr. Woodle, so glad to see you on this game. As someone who has over 1500 hours played since v7, allow me to give you a couple of non obvious things. For inventory management, check out Ctrl>right click, Alt>right click, and shift >drag. Please do NOT make the katana. Spears are your weapon of choice and as soon as you find bone fragments, you can make a better spear.
It's games like this that make me appreciate 7 days (and Woodle!) because of how simple and intuitive the craft is. Imo it really is so easy to get started if you're curious about how things work there's a search function to help out. Games like Infected would frustrate me too much if I can't find out how to make a simple campfire in 5 minutes!

Ay Woodle! Use your flask to put out the fire and also cover it (use a bit of dirty water so as to not waste clean just need 1). Also build more saw benches. Build a furnace and use it to melt down rocks to get nuggets for ingots (covered). Aim for a Cart for hauling logs (8) or carcasses (1). Make sure you wash your hands after butchering a body (go to a body of water empty handed and mash buttons). build garden boxes and keep them watered when in use. OK end of helpful stuff on day one. Thanks sir for the entertainment. (now that i think about it ... all this advice was just before this patch hope they still apply ... damn it such a muppet)

Wow woodle is playing my favorite game finally
I have this game, but haven't played in a year, since they remodeled the world and vambies, great game... Also, put flask on the fire to quinch, butcher table to harvest animals (wash hands after harvesting), stay in shade or make sunscreen paste for the summer months, just to help you get started. Anymore questions, we'll answer. Plus, build a few sawbenches to get planks faster, along with forges. As always, Take Care & God Bless.

Hey Josh build another plank workbench to double production. Also I think you can build a log sled to haul more logs.
I saw a little bit of this when it first came out, and seeing this it is obvious that A LOT has been done to it, and in most ways it looks better. The first guy I watched, his voice gets grating real quick, but yours does not, so I should enjoy this a lot as you progress through it. I see the logic of building where you did, but from what I saw last time you may end up regretting it. I always wondered in games like this why you can't just have your base be where you started because that lighthouse looked like a pretty decent place to base from while you are getting used to the mechanics of the game early on.

Hey mate great start. Been playing this awhile now and is a great game. The plant fiber thing cracked me up so much and the emptying of the clean water at water fall was a laugh as well. River water only gives you dirty water you need to purify it on the camp fire. Looking forward to next chapter. Also love the choice of build spot but you will regret it when comes to getting wood etc.
Love this game. I remember when you didn’t have AI help, no 4x4, and it was enemy lol. Just one kind and was so simple.
@@Silentlucidity10 Personally i'm not a fan of the vambies at all and while i played with them i prefer going all out survival by turning Vambies off, upping my food and water consumption also turn up health and damage of all wild life to max. Still great game when doing this.
@@shanerobinswpr7027 I tend to agree here, I liked the vambies up until the AI change (update 13/14 maybe), I hope that gets tweaked in the future as it took away the chill experience for me. I like the idea of the settings you use and will try this myself on my next run.
I used to love this game, but it’s been a long time since I’ve played, it didn’t have seasons yet when I played. I like the looks of the base location, but the issue I see is that you will have to travel a good distance for just about anything.
Build a forge next an smelt rocks to get iron fragments and then smelt 5 fragments into iron ingots for your katana
I love this game! Was laughing my ass off at you wanting the plant fiber as it was stacking in your inventory with every tree. Yep, you have to sleep, which I like, and watch your energy and stamina. I hope you enjoy this game, it's really nice for building. The combat is still in basic stage, the green dots are poi's, some with a few buildings and some larger ones. Vambies patrol in town, but just three at a time. Look for pieces of paper laying around poi's, those are your tech points to unlock things. Watch your seasons, no free veggies in winter! Just keep in mind it is still in early access, but the early and mid game is wonderful! Thanks for sharing the fun, hope to see more!
Give 7 days a Bit of a Break and Run this as a Series, a Game you don't know backward and forwards seems like a good watch
Idea for another series. Hordes anywhere anytime but now world spawns of zombies. So the only zombies you see are during a horde. No Hud like immersion so nothing to indicate a horde is coming. Nitro express raiding of POI's with no traders

This is a really fun game. You need to keep your hands washed after butchering animals or you’ll get infected. Also put the canteen on the fire (where you lit it) to put it out.
Building in a forest would have been a lot easier because you are going to need a lot of wood

This game looks like it will be pretty good! The crafting seems a bit complicated, like Sons of the Forest, but once you figure it out it should get better. I can't wait to see what the Vambies look like 😁

Frogs are early game food, grab the vegetables for food. Beware food goes bad so don't harvest everything around your base.
Hopefully this becomes a series. I really enjoy this game. New update is cool. Been playing for a couple years on and off. 😊

You should build more of the saws. So you can quicken up your production
I have not played this in a while, looks like they did some updates....Mr Woodle if I can offer a suggestion, you have to set up 2-3 of resource tables to get a good set of productivity, tables like the saw-bench act like storage too. Get the log sled and log storage good too...this game is not Son's of the Forest but it is a bit of fun.
