1:08 "They laugh as soon as he comes in... oh dear !" Oh God, how we, the earlier generations before you, were nasty racists back then, weren't we? This could never happen to your current generation. You are so new, clean, progressive, one might even say virginal. ...Maybe too much. By the way, you'd rather never react to the "Ronnie Barker - British Rail" sketch here, if you did, you might end up with heart failure.😁
This sketch is actually from the series they filmed in Australia. They originally did it in their UK series and that version also used to be on UA-cam. You can tell the difference because in the original they are both rather paler in complexion, not having been in the Australian sunshine, the wife is played by Josephine Tewson, and when Barker hands Corbett the marmalade he says something like "Oh look, there's one of your little friends on the label" (Robertson's marmalade jars used to have a "golly" on them).
I love you two! So many Americans are just confused by British comedy and The Two Ronnie's are "very" British in their skits. But you guys are on it like a car bonnet. You both "get" it and more power to you both. Your reactions are a joy. Thank you.
Thank goodness we got the 2 Ronnie’s and so much British TV in Australia. I remember watching this decades ago. As I’ve said before, Brit comedy is brilliant, shhh, even better than Aus lol. Oh I remember mum wouldn’t let us watch Benny Hill lol. Apart from that we watched stacks of British comedy, we still get it here on TV - Ta 😂👍
@@DAVIDSHEILS-fs1og I do, why? Because it's sad, this is just humourous. I'm blind, you bet if the 2 Ronnies made a blind skit I'd be all over it! If we're really not meaning to offend that's as far as it needs to go. If people choose to get offended, that's on them.
The Two Ronnies were regular Saturday night viewing on the BBC for many years. Starting out as single performers, they got together as a result of a problem occurring at a theatre they were performing in. To save the day, they doubled up in an impromptu sketch. This impressed BBC executives and a series was tried with very large viewing figures. A perfect match!
The marmalade had the golliwog (from the brand, Robertson's) on the side, where the grocer said, "There's one of your friends who we won't see much of soon." It's been censored, so the skit was prophetic.
Gollywogs became Gollies before they disappeared altogether. I had some of the Golliwog badges that you could send away for. You probably remember them too. They had the Gollywogs playing different sports and playing musical instruments if I remember correctly.
I can see that you are gradually working your way through classic old British comedy. You must watch two Marty Feldman and John Cleese sketches, in a bookshop and train carriage. Marty Feldman was a prolific comedy writer like Ronnie Barker. And it seems like you haven't covered Mr Bean yet. He may not be everyone's cup of tea as we say but some of his skits are pure silent movie genius. You must watch the one where he's trying to get the aerial for a TV in the best position. It has me in stitches every time.
They are just class The Two Ronnies are just comedy genius, we had the pleasure of putting up with this every saturday night in the 80's. Thanks for using them so much on your channel its fun watching your reaction.
Hi guys enjoying your reactions.ronnie barker has another show open all hours he plays a miserly corner shop keeper with a pronounced stutter and his nephew .the comedy is brilliant you'll both enjoy it .all the best to you both keep safe friends x
They always ended their shows with a great musical number. Three of the best were: The Aldershot Brass Band ensemble. Great lyrics and complicated choreography all done in one take. The Plumstead Ladies Male Voice choir The Two Ronnies; Jehoshaphat and Jones. On tour (if you can get it)
Love that you love The Two Ronnies. Another British comedy duo you should react to are Morecambe and Wise. Like the Two Ronnies they do a series of sketches, funny plays and musical numbers in their 1 hour shows and they are brilliant. Just look up the Morecambe and Wise sketch featuring the famous pianist and conductor, Andre Previn, who played along in their musical sketch and was absolutely brilliant keeping a deadpan face. Maybe start with this sketch as I think you’ll enjoy it so much it’ll make you want to seek out more of their material.
I was born 1956 so I lived through so much British (or I should say English) TV, . I also saw a lot of American Programmes like Martin & Rowans Laugh in. Like watching your reactions to the comedy I grew up with so thanks for that.
Two Ronnies were great. For another classic of the era, try Morecambe and Wise. The two best starting points would be the sketch with Andre Previn and the breakfast sketch
You really should react to some of their music sketches. The one I remember is them in a marching band, chatting to each other “ int it a pity that pubs in the City all close at half past ten “ hilarious !
Ronnie Barker died before Ronnie Corbett and for a little while he carried on the sketches with other comedians. A great one to watch is My blackberry isn't working. A great play on the names technology has pinched from the real world such as Apple and Orange (which you may not know was a cell phone company in the UK). priceless 😀
Both Ronnie B and Ronnie C wrote sketches, Ronnie B wrote some sketches under the pen name of Gerald Wiley plus other writers including John Sullivan who wrote Only Fools and Horses, Just Good Friends and Citizen Smith and Barry Cryer another comedy writer.
Over here `cack` is another name for `stools` / `shit` / the leftovers from breakfast after a long day at work..... That made me laugh - a short and swift demand for `cack.`
Watching you two is very uplifting, there is sadly not enough laughter in the world.😁 Other British comedians you might like are Al Murray or Micky Flanagan.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned but I'm fairly sure that is the remake of the sketch for Australian TV. They spent some time there for tax purposes as the tax was high during a Labour government the 1970s. In the unedited original, UK made version, when he asks for "ma-mal-adee" his is given a Robinsons brand jar of Marmalade, which at the time had a "Gollywog" mascot symbol on the side. Ronny Barker, the one serving, says to Ronny Corbett, playing the Arab, "oh look its one of your friends on the side there" pointing to the "Gollywog" emblem. That is edited out of most versions of the original as it is seen as potentially racist but was just the sort of thing a person may have said at the time, without meaning any offence.
Asian's would come into the store I worked at and ask for Kit-E-Cat (cat food) when they wanted Kit Kat (chocolate wafer bar).........................😜
Can’t remember this sketch and I watched the TR s for donkeys - every week they had the biggest TV audience here in the U.K. biggest tites ( hilarious) they were always brilliant with their play on words and euphemisms- sadly missed British institution .
From an era when we didn't take ourselves too seriously and we could laugh at one another. Unlike today when everyone is looking to be offended so they can have a miserable life.
I’d love you guys to react to Father Ted. - Any clip but the best one is the one about the ‘Greeks’ I thinks - following you guys for a while. Hello from Ireland 🇮🇪

But enough of that, I'm still waiting for someone other than NT to react to episodes of The Day Today (mock news show from the '90s). Is this cool? Trust me, I'm a stomach.
The stupid and sad thing is if this sketch was done today a horde of killjoys would kick off making a fuss rather than just seeing it for the innocent fun it is intended. Benny Hill did a kind of sketch bit similar but think was with misunderstandings of words involving Chinese l think, equally hilarious.
If you realise that he was pronouncing the words exactly how they were spelt, eg. Tongue is pronounced ton-gue, Coffee is pronounced c-off-ee and marmalade, ma-mal-a-de. Quite simple really, but very funny.

Slim Pickman and Polly Parton, is a classical music sketch, by The Two Ronnie's
1:08 "They laugh as soon as he comes in... oh dear !"

As an Aussie, we grew up watching the two Ronnies back in the ‘80s. I love British humour!! ❤

@@postscript67 Yes I have actually seen reactions to both versions but had't realised they did one in Australia. thanks.

They should 😂
Who gives a shit, you can watch it at leisure.

This skit is very cleverly done it's not easy changing pronunciation of words

I worked in a supemarket and was asked where the 'soup' was. I showed him, Campbells here, Heinz there. NO he says, Fairy Soup!
Great video 👍 The best is two Ronnie's "Cross word" puzzle and two phone conversations!

*Rowan & Martins Laugh-in, including a very young Goldie Horne.
“ The Plumstead ladies male voice choir”. “ Crossed lines” “mispronunciation” some of the best imho
The script writers and the acting is amazing. I don't think we have seen anything so clever since then. Goose reaction.
This is about 50 years old just shows how things have changed x
I really wish I could find the original version of this sketch, it was removed a few years ago and only this rerecording is on UA-cam
Love the backdrop and presentation.
Thank you for the company & entertainment 😊
As others have commented already, Racing Duck and Crossed Lines by the Two Ronnies are really funny. 2 of my favourite sketches and a must watch.
They are unmatched for this type of comedy - even to this day, I sometimes call marmalade ma-malady!! 😁
