Please tell me about your symptoms....as i lifted a sack of around 30-40 kgs two months ago....and i started pain when i bend forward ..i did x ray .. nothing's there... Also now the bending pain is almost zero ...but i am getting uncomfortable in the legs , i think it's due to sciatica.. .. i don't have pain which can freak me out....but is this a herniated disc?? I found you a couple of weeks ago online after coming back from being sick the last five years from Covid and some other systemic diseases it left me with . for the last five years. Now I’m getting movement and severe severe pain and sciatica and inflamed nerve pain’ I have been doing these exercises and I THINK YOU as I’m making progress. God bless you ❤
They work. I’m 80 At 67 I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. The ortho Doc wanted to do surgery. Fortunately I got a second opinion and a good PT guy who gave me a series of stretching exercises including the ones you demoted. Also maybe a couple of bulging disc. I haven’t had real pain since. My back does get “tired” if I do a lot of work over 3 hours but no real pain. I do my exercises and light weight work Monday Wednesday and Friday. I’m in much better condition than my peers who’d haven’t had stenosis.
I am sixty eight this year. An industrious housewife for over forty years after I had my daughter. I start having bunions, then sciatica pain. I tried hard doing exercise on utube and when they opened the swimming pool I started swimming for an hour around four times a week. But my condition fluctuates. Sometimes it’s better and sometimes it’s so painful ever step that I take is one pain. The doctor gave me a nerve block last week by injecting steroid into my back but did not help much. Since your exercise helped you, are there exercise that you can recommend. I mean exercise that you think has helped you?

My back hip has been hurting for 3 days but the excruciating pain went away last night after 10 hours of doing this stretching exercise video. I am 62 years old from Oakland, California.
Definitely works. I'm 36yrs old, and for the last 2 months, I found out I got a bulge in my L5s1, and L3L4 has some compression going on, and the doctors didn't do much but pills and therapy until jan. I came across this, and just yesterday, I couldn't walk, and today I'm up and about. I even went to see the Rams game with just a lil discomfort. Compared to yesterday, I'm glad I did these exercises. Thanks a lot, brother. I appreciate u a whole lot.

Been almost paralyzed with sciatica & Stenosis non stop pain for 2 1/2 yrs. In my 70s. Had epidural & now have the Stimulator implant to try blocking pain. Not great... hard to walk, keep balance & live in pain. I look forward to trying this exercise* thank you for posting it.

At this moment, I am holding back tears, the pain is so bad. My 92 yo mum can move faster and better than I can .. and she's had quad bypass surgery, strokes and a heart attack! lol I stand up and almost fall to the ground in pain. My lower jaw is shivering from the pain .. I am going to try some stretches and pray for the best ... thank you for posting.
So sorry you're going through this. However, I know the feeling. This is a new thing for me and some days, like today (which is why I'm here looking for relief) the pain is unbearable. I can barely walk and I wasn't able to function at work today. I hope these exercises worked for you. Could you report if it helped?

I can't thank you enough for taking the time to teach people how to relieve their pain. I do these exercises every morning as soon as I wake up and I just started doing them before going to bed at night. A year ago I was diagnosed with a vertebral subluxation but the chiropractor just showed that she doesn't know anything cause two months after my last visit, I was having sciatica pain and I don't understand how she failed to recognize that I have sciatica problems. I know about it cause my former chiropractor, who unfortunately died of ovarian cancer in 2019, diagnosed me with lumbar radioculopathy but thanks to you, I can wear my high heels again since I don't feel ankle pain anymore. Got home from work and had been feeling so much pain all day from the bottom of my back down to my leg. I was worried I was going to pinch the nerve and be unable to walk from the pain, so I started looking through youtube. Your stretches helped me immensely and I feel so much relief. Hi 66 yr old disc surgery at 38. Builder by trade and still in business . In chronic pain every day . Don't give up guys . I use this exercise s and I Don't go running to the Doc . Know your body and respect it . Keep going keep fighting don't give up .
I had my first back surgery at 27 after receiving an involuntary Afghan lead injection. At 31 I had a proper disc replacement and fusion (L5S1) done. The hardware was removed a few years later when I was 38. Even with all the trauma to my back and spine, I never experienced sciatica until the last week. This might be the worst pain I’ve ever felt! I really feel for you guys that have been going through this in the long term. I pray that one day your pain subsides. I honestly don’t know how guys like you are able to function.

I randomly felt this sudden tingling and numbing pain on my left buttocks down to my leg specially when i sit quite a while. And recently the pain is really there everytime i sit down. I only did the first exercise today which is my first day watching this video as of about 20 minutes ago. I did five reps and some of the pain that I had at the beginning of this video is gone! I look forward to doing everything in this video as directed, and thank you so much! I am a Lyft driver and I have been driving a ton of hours for several months and it’s my belief that that’s what irritated my sciatic nerve. Thank you!

A few years ago I had horrible sciatica and what got rid of it for me was going to the chiropractor which historically has not always worked for me but they took care of it.
So I just found this my lower backs hurting so bad can barely walk without a cane. Doing this I'm already feeling an extreme amount of relief. Thank you so dang much! Subbing and watching this regularly. I may be able to visit family for Xmas after all
How is it now? I got hit with this recently… I’ve been out of commission for about a month. The first week was unbearable and the pain is starting to subside. I want to add these all to my routine to permanently keep up with them and build off them… a year later though, how are you? I feel you with the cane too.

I have DD, bulging disc, herniated disc, spinal stenosis, and sciatica pain, which is the worst and debilitating. How do I utilize these exercises when some of them can make other conditions worse? I got 4 epidural shots that last 2 days at best. Had a herniated disc surgery in 1998 at 23 years old. I don't want to do spinal fusion, which is my only choice right now. I have been through Baptist, UF health, Mayo Clinic, and Spine Center.
I just had two and finding something that worked took a year. The winner was 60 second extension holds while standing coupled with reverse hypers. I do poor man reverse hypers standing on abductor machine and pushing legs back. Also do some decompression vest stuff. Trying to get legs behind hips pain free still.

When I did PT, they only showed the nerve glide. The ankle pump is something I was unaware of. It worked wonders! Was having trouble walking today, but after doing those exercises for the disc bulge, I started to feel relief. And the numbness faded too. Thanks, doc!

I am a construction worker where I used to lay hollow blocks in a stooping position. In the afternoon, I always feel pain on my buttocks down to the back of my two legs! I tried your excercises and helps a lot to at least walk in and outside my residence!!!

Did them for 2 days now, didn't ease the pain yet but extended my range of motion a lot! I can finally straighten my back :) Also your tip with the sleeping position on your back with a pillow under your knees is literally the only position I can fall asleep in, thanks for changing my life for the better!

Have you recovered. I’m 24 years old and work as a groundsman and tree climber for a tree company since I was 18. When I was 20 I messed up my sciatic nerve carrying a big ass log and felt a sharp pain shoot through my lower back..I dropped the log and couldn’t even bend over..I was out for 2 weeks no work getting chiropractor masages until I was able to bend over again.
Thankfully I was ok after only about a week. I found the exercises really helped and I've kept doing them so my muscles won't tighten up again. @@seiscincocero

Thank you so much. I've had lower back pain for the last 3 days. I did these exercises just once this morning and I feel 99% better. It's been several hours and the pain hasn't returned.
Cobra pose (lying on stomach with elbows up) for half an hour or one hour while watching netflix or reading a book REALLY helps with pain. Turmeric powder (with black pepper for absorption of nutrients) mixed in hot water/vegan milk really helps as it has healing and anti inflammatory properties. Eating ashwagandha can also help if its a pure source like from the brand “Organic India” within India.
#3 the piriformis exercise reduced the pain to a tolerable level. I've been having calf pain and today was the limit of what I could stand and then found your channel. Thank you so much! I'm going to keep doing them to try and keep the pain under control. I subscribed of course!!!!!

I wish I would have found this much earlier. I haven't been able to move my left leg normally for close to a year and sitting in a car for more than short time periods is insanely painful. Thank you so much! Even after just a few sessions I'm starting to get some more mobility again, which is definitely a plus these days with a 2 month old daughter.
Thank you for this useful video! Question: Does sciatic nerve issue cause knee pain? In my case, the pain seems like originating at the base of my left buttock, then radiates to the side and back of my left thigh but the worst is at my knee. Bending it is very painful. Note that this knee was not injured in any way in the past, the pain showed up out of nowhere.
It absolutely can, sometimes it feels like the knee pain comes firstly but it's actually sciatica. It's part of the *magic* of the sciatic nerve, it can cause crural pain that you can feel deeply thru the front of your knee down to the ankle. Remember to exercise lightly and REST.
2:54 when I do this excercise, and I am putting my leg back down to the floor, on the movement down, my spine makes a grinding noise. it's not popping, it's more like grinding on the left side, same leg I lifted. Pain's killing me. I can't even kick a soccer ball anymore cause pain irradiates all to the body.
I'm 28 and have done a variety of jobs that take a heavy physical tole. After recovering from a knee injury, I started having this extreme burning pain going down the side of my left leg, and I thought great something else was wrong. My pt trainer recommended your channel when I told her what was going on, so I'm gonna try this out and see if it helps, I'll leave updates in the future.

Hi Doc. Physio student question: one of the biggest issues I've had has been with my QL (finally able to resolve it) but I've also been told I have minor sclerosis of my facet joints at L4-L5? Is the minor sclerosis anything to worry about?

Hey! Do you have any advice on not being able to lay on your back/ stomach or sides? This is the second flare up of sciatica now and most stretches I can’t do because it requires you to lay on your back, Thankyou :)
@@arianaguerrero6061 for atleast 3-4 weeks i was sleeping on a reclining couch, avoiding laying down at all. i did start chiropractic sessions which for me i think did speed up the process a little. ive been able to lay on my back now for about a week and abit, but yeah id recommend you try and avoid trying to lay down for a couple of weeks if laying down does aggravate it more, maybe sleeping on your couch? but yeah its horrible and i wish you the best recovery
I personally found that laying on a firm surface such as a carpeted floor with both feet flat on the ground to be the quickest relief. From there, slowly extending legs to lay flat and then doing the leg stretches shown in this video were helpful for me. 90% of my sciatica/piriformis pain is due to laying in a bed that is too soft, or relaxing in a recliner for extended periods of time. Years ago when I slept directly on the floor for months on end (no bed), I was amazed at how I endured NO back issues.
@@02SplinterCell02 Yeah i never tried to lay down at all for a few weeks, i just slept in a recliner which to me helped has i had no pain when i was sat on it and when i got up after, it was just laying down completely and that was in any position so my back or my sides i couldnt do even with having my feet on the floor then slowly sliding them down. Most of the exercisers i could not do for that reason has they require you to be laid or do a funky stretch that i couldnt get into. Problem with sciatica is If you feel pain you have to stop (other then walking) so you cant really push into the pain or youll do more damage to it.
@@02SplinterCell02 How did you you get it the first time? mine both my times was from waking and i had a extreme cramp in my leg which then after it stopping it turned into sciatica, my first time was not has bad but the second time around it messed my back up and i was walking with my torso tilited pretty far forward but my back is good now. its just pain in my leg that i get but its like a 4-5 pain out of 10

They work. I’m 80 At 67 I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. The ortho Doc wanted to do surgery. Fortunately I got a second opinion and a good PT guy who gave me a series of stretching exercises including the ones you demoted. Also maybe a couple of bulging disc. I haven’t had real pain since. My back does get “tired” if I do a lot of work over 3 hours but no real pain. I do my exercises and light weight work Monday Wednesday and Friday. I’m in much better condition than my peers who’d haven’t had stenosis.

I am sixty eight this year. An industrious housewife for over forty years after I had my daughter. I start having bunions, then sciatica pain. I tried hard doing exercise on utube and when they opened the swimming pool I started swimming for an hour around four times a week. But my condition fluctuates. Sometimes it’s better and sometimes it’s so painful ever step that I take is one pain. The doctor gave me a nerve block last week by injecting steroid into my back but did not help much. Since your exercise helped you, are there exercise that you can recommend. I mean exercise that you think has helped you?

Definitely works. I'm 36yrs old, and for the last 2 months, I found out I got a bulge in my L5s1, and L3L4 has some compression going on, and the doctors didn't do much but pills and therapy until jan. I came across this, and just yesterday, I couldn't walk, and today I'm up and about. I even went to see the Rams game with just a lil discomfort. Been almost paralyzed with sciatica & Stenosis non stop pain for 2 1/2 yrs. In my 70s. Had epidural & now have the Stimulator implant to try blocking pain. Not great... hard to walk, keep balance & live in pain. I look forward to trying this exercise* thank you for posting it.

I can't thank you enough for taking the time to teach people how to relieve their pain. I do these exercises every morning as soon as I wake up and I just started doing them before going to bed at night. A year ago I was diagnosed with a vertebral subluxation but the chiropractor just showed that she doesn't know anything cause two months after my last visit, I was having sciatica pain and I don't understand how she failed to recognize that I have sciatica problems. I know about it cause my former chiropractor, who unfortunately died of ovarian cancer in 2019, diagnosed me with lumbar radioculopathy but thanks to you, I can wear my high heels again since I don't feel ankle pain anymore. Got home from work and had been feeling so much pain all day from the bottom of my back down to my leg. I had my first back surgery at 27 after receiving an involuntary Afghan lead injection. At 31 I had a proper disc replacement and fusion (L5S1) done. The hardware was removed a few years later when I was 38. Even with all the trauma to my back and spine, I never experienced sciatica until the last week. This might be the worst pain I’ve ever felt! I really feel for you guys that have been going through this in the long term. I pray that one day your pain subsides. I honestly don’t know how guys like you are able to function.

I only did the first exercise today which is my first day watching this video as of about 20 minutes ago. I did five reps and some of the pain that I had at the beginning of this video is gone! I have DD, bulging disc, herniated disc, spinal stenosis, and sciatica pain, which is the worst and debilitating. How do I utilize these exercises when some of them can make other conditions worse?
I got 4 epidural shots that last 2 days at best. Had a herniated disc surgery in 1998 at 23 years old. I don't want to do spinal fusion, which is my only choice right now. I have been through Baptist, UF health, Mayo Clinic, and Spine Center.
I just had two and finding something that worked took a year. The winner was 60 second extension holds while standing coupled with reverse hypers. I do poor man reverse hypers standing on abductor machine and pushing legs back. Also do some decompression vest stuff. Trying to get legs behind hips pain free still.
I have been suffering from sciatica for 17 days now. Thank you, Doc, for showing us this exercises. I did all and felt a dramatic relief right after it. Your bonus is actually your goodlooking face and sparkling teeth 😊

When I did PT, they only showed the nerve glide. The ankle pump is something I was unaware of. It worked wonders! Was having trouble walking today, but after doing those exercises for the disc bulge, I started to feel relief. And the numbness faded too. Thanks, doc!

Did them for 2 days now, didn't ease the pain yet but extended my range of motion a lot! Have you recovered. I’m 24 years old and work as a groundsman and tree climber for a tree company since I was 18. When I was 20 I messed up my sciatic nerve carrying a big ass log and felt a sharp pain shoot through my lower back..I dropped the log and couldn’t even bend over..I was out for 2 weeks no work getting chiropractor masages until I was able to bend over again.
Thankfully I was ok after only about a week. I found the exercises really helped and I've kept doing them so my muscles won't tighten up again. @@seiscincocero

Cobra pose (lying on stomach with elbows up) for half an hour or one hour while watching netflix or reading a book REALLY helps with pain.
Turmeric powder (with black pepper for absorption of nutrients) mixed in hot water/vegan milk really helps as it has healing and anti inflammatory properties.
Eating ashwagandha can also help if its a pure source like from the brand “Organic India” within India.
Cobra pose means Nagasana. Ya, do Yoga regularly with correct Breath control.
#3 the piriformis exercise reduced the pain to a tolerable level. I've been having calf pain and today was the limit of what I could stand and then found your channel. Thank you so much! I'm going to keep doing them to try and keep the pain under control. I subscribed of course!!!!!

Question: Does sciatic nerve issue cause knee pain?
In my case, the pain seems like originating at the base of my left buttock, then radiates to the side and back of my left thigh but the worst is at my knee. Bending it is very painful. Note that this knee was not injured in any way in the past, the pain showed up out of nowhere.

It absolutely can, sometimes it feels like the knee pain comes firstly but it's actually sciatica. It's part of the *magic* of the sciatic nerve, it can cause crural pain that you can feel deeply thru the front of your knee down to the ankle. Remember to exercise lightly and REST.
2:54 when I do this excercise, and I am putting my leg back down to the floor, on the movement down, my spine makes a grinding noise. it's not popping, it's more like grinding on the left side, same leg I lifted. Pain's killing me. I can't even kick a soccer ball anymore cause pain irradiates all to the body.
I'm 28 and have done a variety of jobs that take a heavy physical tole. After recovering from a knee injury, I started having this extreme burning pain going down the side of my left leg, and I thought great something else was wrong. My pt trainer recommended your channel when I told her what was going on, so I'm gonna try this out and see if it helps, I'll leave updates in the future.
I have only done your exercise twice now, and the relief is so satisfactory. Thank you so very much 🤲🌹

I had pain over then 6 months the best method I found was swimming for the pain to go away. I’m no longer feeling pain.

Hi Doc. Physio student question: one of the biggest issues I've had has been with my QL (finally able to resolve it) but I've also been told I have minor sclerosis of my facet joints at L4-L5? Is the minor sclerosis anything to worry about?

I gotta admit, I tried to dead lift 415lbs three days ago and did something to my lower back and since I've had such bad sciatic pain, I did everything in this video and I'll be saving this for sure. Thank you so much, definitely a ton of relief.

Hey! Do you have any advice on not being able to lay on your back/ stomach or sides? This is the second flare up of sciatica now and most stretches I can’t do because it requires you to lay on your back, Thankyou :)

@@arianaguerrero6061 for atleast 3-4 weeks i was sleeping on a reclining couch, avoiding laying down at all. i did start chiropractic sessions which for me i think did speed up the process a little. ive been able to lay on my back now for about a week and abit, but yeah id recommend you try and avoid trying to lay down for a couple of weeks if laying down does aggravate it more, maybe sleeping on your couch? but yeah its horrible and i wish you the best recovery
I personally found that laying on a firm surface such as a carpeted floor with both feet flat on the ground to be the quickest relief. From there, slowly extending legs to lay flat and then doing the leg stretches shown in this video were helpful for me.
90% of my sciatica/piriformis pain is due to laying in a bed that is too soft, or relaxing in a recliner for extended periods of time. Years ago when I slept directly on the floor for months on end (no bed), I was amazed at how I endured NO back issues.
@@02SplinterCell02 Yeah i never tried to lay down at all for a few weeks, i just slept in a recliner which to me helped has i had no pain when i was sat on it and when i got up after, it was just laying down completely and that was in any position so my back or my sides i couldnt do even with having my feet on the floor then slowly sliding them down.
Most of the exercisers i could not do for that reason has they require you to be laid or do a funky stretch that i couldnt get into. Problem with sciatica is If you feel pain you have to stop (other then walking) so you cant really push into the pain or youll do more damage to it.
@@02SplinterCell02 How did you you get it the first time? mine both my times was from waking and i had a extreme cramp in my leg which then after it stopping it turned into sciatica, my first time was not has bad but the second time around it messed my back up and i was walking with my torso tilited pretty far forward but my back is good now. its just pain in my leg that i get but its like a 4-5 pain out of 10
