    ** WHAT IS SCIATICA?
    “Sciatica” is pain, numbness, tingling, or burning that typically starts in your lower back or glute and travels down the back of your leg. It is the characteristic presentation of some sort of irritation to the sciatic nerve.
    ** WHAT CAUSES SCIATICA
    These sensations of numbness, tingling, or pain are the result of an irritation to the sciatic nerve. Whether it’s a disc in your back, your vertebrae, or a muscle - anything that impinges and puts pressure on the sciatic nerve can result in sciatica nerve symptoms.
    ** BEST EXERCISE TO TREAT SCIATICA
    Now depending on the exact cause of your sciatica, the treatment exercise progression looks a little different. For example there are certain exercises I would give to a patient with sciatica from a bulged disc that I absolutely would NOT recommend for someone with sciatica from stenosis or degenerative disc disease (it’s crucial that you check with a local healthcare provider for exercises specific to your unique diagnosis).
    While these various pathologies are all treated a little differently, today I wanted to demonstrate for you the one exercise I give the majority of my patients regardless of the cause of their sciatic nerve pain.
    ** THE BEST EXERCISE FOR SCIATICA NERVE PAIN
    Think of your nerve as a “string” (or “floss) from your back to your big toe. Somewhere along the course of this nerve, something is “pinching” the nerve and causing pain (or numbness or tingling) sensations. What we need to do is “stretch” or “floss” this nerve back and forth to free it up from this “pinching” and decrease the painful nerve signals. This is best accomplished with “nerve glides” or “nerve flossing”.

    I'm from India and 25...been suffering from bulging disc since 2 years and sciatica since 2 months.       Please tell me about your symptoms....as i lifted a sack of around 30-40 kgs two months ago....and i started pain when i bend forward ..i did x ray .. nothing's there... Also now the bending pain is almost zero ...but i am getting uncomfortable in the legs , i think it's due to sciatica.. .. i don't have pain which can freak me out....but is this a herniated disc?? I am in fear ...doc. just gave me muscle spasm meds...

    At this moment, I am holding back tears, the pain is so bad. My 92 yo mum can move faster and better than I can .. and she's had quad bypass surgery, strokes and a heart attack! lol I stand up and almost fall to the ground in pain. My lower jaw is shivering from the pain .. I am going to try some stretches and pray for the best ... thank you for posting.

    They work. I’m 80 At 67 I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. The ortho Doc wanted to do surgery. Fortunately I got a second opinion and a good PT guy who gave me a series of stretching exercises including the ones you demoted. Also maybe a couple of bulging disc. I haven’t had real pain since. My back does get “tired” if I do a lot of work over 3 hours but no real pain. I do my exercises and light weight work Monday Wednesday and Friday. I’m in much better condition than my peers who’d haven’t had stenosis.

      I am sixty eight this year. An industrious housewife for over forty years after I had my daughter. I start having bunions, then sciatica pain. I tried hard doing exercise on utube and when they opened the swimming pool I started swimming for an hour around four times a week. But my condition fluctuates. Sometimes it’s better and sometimes it’s so painful ever step that I take is one pain. The doctor gave me a nerve block last week by injecting steroid into my back but did not help much. Since your exercise helped you, are there exercise that you can recommend. I mean exercise that you think has helped you?

    31 yrs old, hello aging pains.
    When i was 20 i fell down the stairs and just got up and shrugged it off. Now i just slept wrong, now my lower back is killing me.

    I'm only 26, and I work in a chiropractic clinic. I hear patients all the time talking about their debilitating sciatica pain. The last few days, I've been noticing a lingering sorness in the exact area on my left side... I found this video, started stretching, and it's almost gone :) This video has great stretches for the exact areas I'm looking for! Thanks for all the help

    I had pain over then 6 months the best method I found was swimming for the pain to go away. I’m no longer feeling pain.

    I am a construction worker where I used to lay hollow blocks in a stooping position.
    In the afternoon, I always feel pain on my buttocks down to the back of my two legs!
    I tried your excercises and helps a lot to at least walk in and outside my residence!!!

    I am a 29 yr old female. I squatted down at work like I always do, and felt a sudden pain shooting down my legs from my lower spine. It got so much worse over the last couple of days. Fortunately, after watching your video, I can now get out of bed without screaming in pain. Thank you so much!

    When I did PT, they only showed the nerve glide. The ankle pump is something I was unaware of. It worked wonders! Was having trouble walking today, but after doing those exercises for the disc bulge, I started to feel relief. And the numbness faded too. Thanks, doc!

    For 4 years I've been diagnosed and treated wrongly. I thought i have a plantar fasciitis until i went to one well known chiropractor who heald 95% of the pain in my heels by pressing and setting up lower back because apparently i have sciatica. I don't have pain in my lower back but all nerves through legs are affected, especially in feet. Luckily i don't have heel pain anymore and i can walk without pain for 2 hours (before therapy i could walk about 30 minutes). He suggested me to do exercises for sciatica so i came here, hopefully over the time i won't feel this pain on leg nerves. Thank u for ur exercises ❤

    I only did the first exercise today which is my first day watching this video as of about 20 minutes ago. I did five reps and some of the pain that I had at the beginning of this video is gone! I look forward to doing everything in this video as directed, and thank you so much! I am a Lyft driver and I have been driving a ton of hours for several months and it’s my belief that that’s what irritated my sciatic nerve. Thank you!

    I randomly felt this sudden tingling and numbing pain on my left buttocks down to my leg specially when i sit quite a while. And recently the pain is really there everytime i sit down. I came to youtube to find answers and tips of what to do and I found this exercises and it really helps. I felt some relief. Thanks for these tips.

      I have very similar issues to yours for years now. It's like i would describe the problems I'm struggling with myself.
      I've tried nearly everything, went to loads of different doctors, did a lot of exercise, tried different pills but nothing helped me.

    Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge Doctor. I used to have sciatica 10 years ago but it comes back sometimes. My back hip has been hurting for 3 days but the excruciating pain went away last night after 10 hours of doing this stretching exercise video. I am 62 years old from Oakland, California.

A few years ago I had horrible sciatica and what got rid of it for me was going to the chiropractor which historically has not always worked for me but they took care of it.

    Definitely works. I'm 36yrs old, and for the last 2 months, I found out I got a bulge in my L5s1, and L3L4 has some compression going on, and the doctors didn't do much but pills and therapy until jan. I came across this, and just yesterday, I couldn't walk, and today I'm up and about. I even went to see the Rams game with just a lil discomfort. Compared to yesterday, I'm glad I did these exercises. Thanks a lot, brother. I appreciate u a whole lot.

    Hi...I'm from Philippines, I'm 47 yrs old. Almost 4 days of suffering pain at my side of my left leg. I'm taking pain reliever for 4 days for my leg pain.     Got home from work and had been feeling so much pain all day from the bottom of my back down to my leg.     Wow, did this, hip pushups for a bulge disc & the leg up & straighten, 1st exercise, it was instant relief, from back of my leg to all the way to my ankle, gone !

    So I just found this my lower backs hurting so bad can barely walk without a cane. Doing this I'm already feeling an extreme amount of relief. Thank you so dang much! Subbing and watching this regularly. I may be able to visit family for Xmas after all

      How is it now? I got hit with this recently… I’ve been out of commission for about a month.
      The first week was unbearable and the pain is starting to subside.
      I want to add these all to my routine to permanently keep up with them and build off them… a year later though, how are you? I feel you with the cane too.

    The standing version fixed me amazingly. I have stenosis and found a site that said you have to do extension sometimes even if it hurts to pull the discs back away. 60 second hold. If pain stops from exercise you can keep doing it

    I can't thank you enough for taking the time to teach people how to relieve their pain. I do these exercises every morning as soon as I wake up and I just started doing them before going to bed at night. A year ago I was diagnosed with a vertebral subluxation but the chiropractor just showed that she doesn't know anything cause two months after my last visit, I was having sciatica pain and I don't understand how she failed to recognize that I have sciatica problems. I know about it cause my former chiropractor, who unfortunately died of ovarian cancer in 2019, diagnosed me with lumbar radioculopathy but thanks to you, I can wear my high heels again since I don't feel ankle pain anymore. Thanks again! 😊

    Thank you very much! I’m a nurse and have been experiencing more and more sciatica and back pain over time, I think due to the physicality of my work.     I'm having a horrible bout with lower back sciatica, literally screamed and cried in the er today and I'm 48 years old. I know I had sciatica when I was 24 during my pregnancy with my daughter,it was bad,but not this bad,I did fall and hurt my hip over a month ago so that could have played apart in it. Can't wait to do these exercises and get relief!!

    Woke up this morning at 4 am with another brutal sciatica attack. Screaming in pain. Had second attack after I took a nap. Been using a walker for the last 8 days. Found this video and thought, what's to lose? OMG the relief!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did exercises 1 and 4. Thank you so very much.

    Without me realizing this was what I was doing that helped me treat it yesterday. but now it becomes a massive indicator of how I've been neglecting on my exercise... basically lazy to the point my body force me to know while I'm lying there in pain. What a good indicator.

    M 34 year old women ... N I have suffering from this pain for last 1 year.... I consult with lots of docters still I couldn't come out from the pain....     I am 49 years old and injured my lower back in my early 20s at the gym, leg press machine... too much weight, Ego lifting. Subsequently about once a year following this incident I get my back go out, one hip will raise up about 1 inch. This morning was that day, tried these stretches and am surprised because I've never been able to find a stretch that helps right away. Thank you.

    Recently started dealing with this. Found this vid. Did 5 reps right away. I can already feel a difference in my walking gait. Amazing. Doctors thought I had a problem with my knee cuz that's where my pain is localized. Gonna add this to my daily routine. Thanks a ton.

    Thank you for sharing. Today I had another fisio treatment; some exercise went wrong, I came home and the sciatic nerve started to hurt. Now, I am watching you and put some heat on my low spine. I’ll do these exercises. Actually my column has stenosis and two hernias...😢

    This actually worked. I did the two of the extra exercises too. (not the bulging disc, I don't think that was the problem) so excited I didn't have to reach for the motrin today. Thank you!

I feel so much relief after the exercise with the foot pumping motion. I’m not happy that this has to be a daily exercise but I’m glad it helps.     I spent 6 hrs in a&e a couple days ago, because the extreme pain was worrying me (didnt want to loose ability in my legs) it felt like bad cramp in my left calve and nerve pain BUT not down the back it was all over the sides 😫🔥😫 THANK YOU AGAIN 🙏🏽 FOR THE DEMONSTRATION 😇😇😇
    Update: relief didn't last longer than an hour or soh!😢 but I believe it will get better x

      Courtney I’m right behind you by a few minutes. I am laying here relaxing after doing five reps of the first exercise and I can tell a big difference than just an hour ago as far as the pain in my right hamstring. Wow! Wish I had found this video three years ago when I had major full blown sciatic pain everywhere.

    #3 the piriformis exercise reduced the pain to a tolerable level. I've been having calf pain and today was the limit of what I could stand and then found your channel. Thank you so much! I'm going to keep doing them to try and keep the pain under control. I subscribed of course!!!!!

    Amazing! I woke up pain free today. I went all day yesterday limping in pain and did your video reps and when I woke up and stepped out of bed I was shocked. I will be doing this a few times a week now. I’ve live with sciatica pain since my first child nine years ago and have been paying lots of money for stretch classes and I’m shocked how much your videos helped. And best part I did them at home!     Cobra pose (lying on stomach with elbows up) for half an hour or one hour while watching netflix or reading a book REALLY helps with pain.
    Turmeric powder (with black pepper for absorption of nutrients) mixed in hot water/vegan milk really helps as it has healing and anti inflammatory properties.
    Eating ashwagandha can also help if its a pure source like from the brand “Organic India” within India.

    I just came across your video and I want to thank you!!! I’ve been suffering from sciatic pain for I want to say 4 years. I’ve been to a chiropractor and he’s helped me lot but I have since then fallen on my back 2 times. And my pains have returned. I came came across this video and it has helped me alleviate the pain in less then 5 minutes of doing these exercises!!! I’m going to start doing these daily and see what happens.     I am in shock. THIS WORKED!!!!! I've been suffering with brutal pain down the back of my left leg. For the last 2 weeks I've had a tough time even sitting! Standing up sometimes the pain would be so severe I could cry and it would even repeatedly wake me up at night. My snacks have been and endless flow of Tylenol and Advil. I did this ONCE last night (7 reps) and my pain is now reduced by 90%. I slept for a straight 6 hours without pain. I am so happy to be able to move about normally!!! Thank you so so soooooo much!!! ❤

    Did them for 2 days now, didn't ease the pain yet but extended my range of motion a lot! I can finally straighten my back :) Also your tip with the sleeping position on your back with a pillow under your knees is literally the only position I can fall asleep in, thanks for changing my life for the better!

    Definitely relieved it a little bit, I’ve had sciatica for a few years now but read many times that it goes away on its own. It’s starting to get painful and these stretches helped. Thanks a lot

    Hi Doc. Physio student question: one of the biggest issues I've had has been with my QL (finally able to resolve it) but I've also been told I have minor sclerosis of my facet joints at L4-L5? Is the minor sclerosis anything to worry about?

      Have you recovered. I’m 24 years old and work as a groundsman and tree climber for a tree company since I was 18. When I was 20 I messed up my sciatic nerve carrying a big ass log and felt a sharp pain shoot through my lower back..I dropped the log and couldn’t even bend over..I was out for 2 weeks no work getting chiropractor masages until I was able to bend over again.
