You CAN'T Grow Grass In Sand...

- I hear this statement a lot but sand can actually be a great thing. There's a reason why most greens on golf courses will be grown in sand for complete control and terrific playability. You just have to manage it a little differently than soil.

Got some seed in my sons sandbox last fall and it grew quite nicely lol
Grows good where you don`t want it to.
Always lmao
You can grow bermuda in between slabs of concrete. If you have a a bermuda lawn, leveling with sand is just fine.
Ryan please do a video on exposed tree roots in a lawn. Mine are now sticking up far enough that the mower hits them sometimes.
Me too! What do we do about this?! I basically live in the woods, but I have like 8,000 square feet of lawn and two large maples in my front yard whose roots are exposed. I added a few inches of top soil last week and put down some seed. Now I’m hoping for the best.
@@brandynboisseau7884 Unfortunately its either work around them, Build the soil up around them (you'll be dealing with an incline of soil so make sure its appropriately leveled), or cut the tree down and grind the stump.
Dig around, pull up with a pickaxe as much as you can, use a reciprocating saw to cut
I think the arguments of organic material all the way to sand really depend on the current state of the lawn vs where you want to be, as well as how short you intend to mow. The shorter = more sand. I am in the middle of my fist leveling and I'm using screened loam. Next year I'll re assess and either do more loam or a mix with additional sand. Full sand is for those who only need touch up leveling. Think of it like setting up the ground for pavers - Get your base down, and then_ screed with sand.
If you can do it in Dubai you can do it anywhere
I fill a pot with soil and one with sand and put some tall fescue seeds in both of them. The grass in the soil got tall enough to cut in 7 to 10 days. The grass in the sand to close to a month and a half before it was tall enough to cut
people who say this haven't been to michigan lol my entire yard is sand
Same!
My whole front yard is a dang sandbox from rain rushing down the hill and this summer I've been watering the heck out of it and it's looking pretty dang green
Well, from the looks of this video...
I'd say these people don't know what the heck they are talking bout.
Munchas Gracias Amigo...
Thanks Much Friend
At the golf course I work at we grow all of our grass in sand
Just curious, I thought sand, dirt, is the main factor to grow any plant? What else is their to use?
gorgeous roots
"Sandy, you just can't walk out of a drive-in!"
How bout those roots John Perry! 🤣
How do you stop it from growing in the sand?
Make a 4 foot high pile of gravel and see what happens.
i think it has very long root and that's Why the grass is growth
They do?
Who's they?
How about those roots John Perry?
That's all we do down here😂
Does leveling with sand cause issues with clay soil?
If you do a lot of aerating it will be ok
@@brub5174 what if I don't do it 🤔
@@saiiiiiii1 I did a lot of watching videos and reading about this topic, because my lawn isn't far as flat as I want, i have a clay soil aswell. You need to aerate it so you don't make a barrier with your sand. I guess you can pull it off without but everyone is saying you should do it
Can I treat Creeping Charlie, clover, and moss in the heat of summer? I am in Cleveland Ohio and I overseeded the 1st week of April. I don’t want to damage the new growth. Or should I wait till early fall?
Hello fellow Clevelander!
@@gotch5427 hello from Cleveland
Just gotta follow the herbicide label instructions. It’ll tell you application temps and also how new grass can be. I’d say it’s prob too early. There’s a general rule of thumb of wanting to have at least 2-3 full mows in before you apply stuff so you might be close though.
what kind of grass is this?

Most golf courses top dress with sand. At least every private club I’ve worked at does.
Grass grows anywhere it wants to, on top of abandoned cars and rooftops, anywhere soil can settle, with water air and light.
Man i cant get grass to grow on my sandy yard worth nothing but the grass will grow up between the bricks on my padio makes no sense
Those look like all of my Bermuda grass roots. Grass grows anywhere.
HA is this a response to Premier Lawns??? Idk if the timing is just a coincidence but this past week I've had all of his videos about not topdressing with sand recommended to me and the advice didn't sound quite right...
I don't have time to really watch UA-cam at all so purely coincidence
Sissy grass will grow anywhere.
I have 75% sand.. my turfstand is awesome. Just have to micro-dose and water/hydretain more often.
It's most likely due to a wet season. During summer when the sand gets dry the grass will wither.
I live in the great lake Ontario area. It's all glacial sands. Grass grows very fast here. You do have to fight grubs and crab grass though.
Thank goodness," they" don't matter to "doers"😂😂😂
?
So they SAY😂
No one says that! Sand is a crucial component of growing turf.
My lawns grows best where its sand
As horrible as this is gonna sound u got a nice root!!!!!!! Lol
Don’t pull it out lol :/
