- Sometimes I screw up. I went out to film the VP but I arrived literally at the last second, through my camera on the tripod and hit the button to take pictures of her, or anyone who looked like her. Sadly the latter was what happened, and I have a few dozen photos of an aide rather than the VP. I then decided to try my luck again at the White House with a bit more success.

I observed security barricades in front of Lafayette Park, across the street from the White House, to protect against truck bombs.
Pennsylvania used to be open to cars in front of the White House. During the Clinton administration, it got closed to cars for security reasons. The Secret Service has the street blocked off with mobile barricades at each end of the block. Penguinsix showed a fire department ambulance responding to help the Secret Service near the White HOuse, and uniformed Secret Service officers must have move the barricades long enough to let the ambulance in and out.

The F.B.I. has its own uniformed police force, the F.B.I. police to protect F.B.I. headquarters, and a few other major facilities, such as the F.B.I. training academy.
The main F.B.I. office in Los Angeles is protected by the uniformed Department of Homeland Security-Federal Protective Service, and by a private security company. Penguinsix showed the Federal Protective Service arresting protestors at the main Justice Department headquarters building.

Everytime I watch one of these helicopters takeoff from the observatory, I get a little nervous. It seem to be a very complex maneuver. The pilot has to maneuver around some large trees unlike at the WH south lawn where they just go straight up and out. That is some impressive flying. Has any helicopters ever clip a tree branch? Or maybe it just look’s crowded given the location you shoot the video from. Anyway kudos to the pilot.

At Department of Justice headquarters, I observed some concrete boxes which were located between the public sidewalk and the street. They are security barricades, although the government tries to make them look as aesthetic as possible by having plants in them. They would prevent someone from crashing a truck bomb into the building.
Public buildings are often also protected by having no parking zones in front of the building. Parking control officers or police officers might tow away illegally parked cars which are parked in front of a major public building.

Today President Biden was in my city attending fundraisers which just happened to be in the direction I was going. Major roads were blocked so I had to detour. Traffic was a mess but it was kind of exciting to know he was just down the street. Tons of cameras and.police cars everywhere.
