On September 30th 1984, the NY Giants kicked off to open the game against the LA Rams. The ball bounced into the end zone untouched, and was recovered by Phil McConkey of the Giants for a TD. Since the clock does not start on a kick off until the ball is touched, the score officially is recorded at 15:00, making this the fastest TD in NFL history at 0:00 seconds. Somehow you guys missed this, but that’s ok, we Giant fans remember...
@@roidaids6501 thank you! The rules were different back then. It’s was like an on side kick. If the ball traveled more than 10 yards it was live and could be recovered by the kicking team
I just found the box score from this game. Apparently back then the clock did start when the ball was kicked, so the official time elapsed was 9 seconds. Still pretty quick.
@@mikesirignano3028 correct. and for OP, this is why the Cowboys' onside kick return on the onside attempt by the eagles in '03 is the fastest at 3 seconds. Cowboy's fans remember...
There was a Falcons/Rams game around 1999-2001 where 1 team returned the opening kickoff then the other team returned the very next kickoff. 14 points were scored in less than 30 seconds. That game should definitely be in this video. I know the 2nd return wouldn't fall in the 1st 15 seconds but still. I can't ever remember seeing back 2 back opening kickoff returns.
Beats+ // Music Production and Creation explain to me how they are supposed to score within 15 seconds of a kickoff. Because it goes over 15 when they get a TD on first play. Except for that failed onside kick they put.
Repins Watson the failed onside kick was a kickoff you idiot and watch 1:56 that's how you score within 15 seconds, also a knee down in the endzone and a first play touchdown would be less than 15 seconds, it's not that hard to understand
Greatest moment in NFL history for me was watching Hester run that opening kick off back during the Super Bowl. I still get chills thinking of that moment.
And that was just the opening 0:12 of the _first_ half since the Broncos got the opening kickoff. They scored in 0:12 AGAIN at the opening of the _second_ half when Percy Harvin returned the kickoff for a TD! Unreal! Go 'Hawks! 💙🏈💚
true... at least two or three great blocks there. That's what some people don't understand, they see RB's or WR's celebrating in the endzone (yes I realize this wasn't a pass or run play), and talk them up like they're awesome, but the fast skinny guys wouldn't go anywhere if it wasn't for the clutch blocks, the O-line, special team blocks, etc
Many people here might not be too aware of Jordan todman. He's the guy returning the kick for the colts at about the 5:05 mark. I can tell you that he's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet and a really good person because I grew up right next to him.
2013 SB was them at their peak. Unlike the next year vs Pats all of them banged up for the Super Bowl then Lane breaking his arm in the first half. No wonder Brady went to work in the 4th vs the backup and injured starters running out of gas. LOL
let me tell you, in light of recent events being a Minnesota fan, I was extremely pleased to see 4/4 clips of the Vikings involving them scoring. You love to see it
In prison for local college games on the radio, you will hear the calls ~20 seconds faster than the TV so I'd say "touchdown on this play" and everyone would laugh but then after touchdown EVERYBODY would be looking at me. This was really fun because if you just did it occasionally, they never figured it out.
I remember that Colts game where Sproles made the return, pretty sure that's the game where Peyton threw six picks and Colts nearly won. The Knile Davis one is crazy to me too considering how clear he is so early in the return.
WOW! So many of these involved the Vikings.Back in 1970, the Cowboys and Browns played a week 13 game in Cleveland in the rain and mud. On the opening kickoff, Bob Hayes of the Cowboys mishandled the ball and it got past him into the end zone. Hayes tried to run it out, but got trapped for safety. For the longest time, the score of that game was 2-0 Browns. The Cowboys eventually kicked two field goals and won 6-2. Another unique play in that game occurred when Browns kicker Don Cockroft tried an 8 yard field goal. (Yes, 8 yards, this was before the goal post were moved back) Cockroft's kick actually sailed under the crossbar on its way up because he was too close. If the kick had been from 5 yards further back, the kick would have been over the crossbar and therefore would have been good.
Actually, it was 5 seconds as the time keeper didn't start the clock until 2 seconds after the Cowboys player caught the ball. Plus, the video says "within 15 seconds," meaning the touchdown occurred in 15 seconds or less.
6:30 this is the fastest score in NFL history, the reciever of the kickoff got the ball before it entered the endzone, and kneed in the endzone. The Titans inadvertantly caused a safety after 1 second had elapsed.
It amazes me how fast these returners are. They catch the ball 5 -9 yards in the endzone, then the clock starts, they dodge that first wave usually making a stutter step or making a cut to a sideline and still cross the the line of the endzone in less than 13 seconds. That's crazy.
Not really an unreasonable prediction, it's pretty insane to score a touchdown in the opening kickoff of a super bowl. The Bears fucked up big time losing that game
I was at the game where dante hall returned the opening kickoff for a TD against the broncos. My first chiefs game ever. Couldnt have asked for a a better start.
