Extra 6706 West, Part 1: Crossing the Escanaba River

Ride the cab of an Alco C628 - and watch from trackside - as Extra 6706 West hauls a Chicago & North Western ore train in Upper Michigan! In Part 1, we board at the Ore Dock yard. Riding outside as the three Alcos cross the Escanaba River, their four-stroke bark washes over us, hauling the empty train uphill.

ALCO built some good looking engines. Majestic Behemoths, even when dirty. Looks like they're bookin' it pretty well. Any idea how fast they were running? Looks to be 35-40 mph.

If memory serves, the loaded ore trains were limited to 30mph and the empties, 40. RR
