The Gatti is a wonderful etude in that it's composed with easily accessible melodic lines. Unlike other, more "musically cryptic" studies, this one allows the performer to focus on different aspects of their performance with a clear idea of the end goal. In my case, I used this study to focus on both my rhythmic honesty and my ability to blow through these more active lines. It can be easy to become overly intentional in your pursuit of rhythmic integrity to the point of losing the melodic line. Using etudes like this one where we can quickly catch ourselves as we stray away from the musical message is a great way to develop our ability to be musical AS WELL AS precise.

Hey Joseph, you sound fantastic! If you don’t mind me asking where did you get that mechanism for your first slide made? I’d like to get this installed on my 2165 so I can access my slides the same way you do.

Hi Daniel, thanks for the message. I had my local repair person add an upside down thumb ring to the crook of my tuning slide. The black that you see is just a rubber coating that I added later. If I’m being honest, it was unnecessary as I often grab different places for slide manipulation.
